I have worked in the past as a foreman on a farm. It is almost impossible to get local people to work on the farm. When we did get local people they were terrible workers. The migrants could produce two to three times the amount as the local workers. They were also more reliable to show up every day.

One of the issues I did not hear mentioned in the video about why a lot of migrants are scared to work in the fields is that there are lots of farmers who take advantage of them. They will get all the work out of them and refuse to pay them and then call immigration on them to have them deported. They have to put up with a lot of abuse because they're too scared to report any abuse.
Not only the farm dude. It's everywhere. Also happens in construction. They pay the slave wage and threaten to report to ICE. That's why they are rich and vote for DonOLD.
There should be a migrant worker program that allows them to come here legally and earn good money harvesting our crops for us, and protects them from abuse. Then they can bring the money home to their families and if they want to, start working towards US citizenship.
Actually, in this kind of work you get paid by the bulk. I knew a guy who immigrated to the US illegally from Mexico, and he said he once netted $800 in a week picking tomatoes. This was probably about 40 years ago, so he must have picked a lot of tomatoes and had to work at a hellish pace. Also keep in mind that these people have taxes deducted, but don't file returns. The local, state, and federal governments keep that money, and the workers have to get new fake paperwork every year. You have to wonder how much revenue will be lost if the crackdown is enforced.
@okamijubei Regan brought workers in because black people wanted a fair living wage . If you don't like these workers, blame republicans and greedy farmers .

They’ve been working in our agricultural industries for almost one hundred years. Because of them California is top greatest economy in the world. They’ve built their own communities around their work. Which is normal. But because of language and cultural difference most of us were not usually hired. And the tradition has persist. If they mass deport these people the USA will suffer economically and prices will soar. It will be devastating. Farms will no doubt suffer the most.

One of the most important aspects of this type of farming is professional, knowledgeable workers. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you could kill the watermelon plant and no more watermelons. Plus there’s a way of handling them that is also necessary to know. When you throw a watermelon into a catcher, the catcher has to stack the watermelon. If the watermelon is stacked incorrectly, it’ll crush the melons beneath. Therefore, he needs to be a skilled individual on knowing exactly how to turn and place the watermelon so that you can stack them high. How do I know that? I was brought up in the family where, by example, you worked hard, and you did what you needed to do. There was a very low point when I was homeless. I also have agricultural background, by always having a vegetable garden, and a grandmother who was a horticulturist. I did this type of work alongside Margaret workers. Who gave us a job, expecting that we’d be gone by the end of the day. We were not, we worked through the rain, the heat, the bugs, the rats, the snakes, the thorns, and all the other delightful conditions of doing agricultural Margarett work. All his life from the time he was a child he was a farmer, and his father was a farmer, we were the first….. the very first, white Americans that have been hired and stayed, plus we knew how to handle the tools and the product properly……. Think about that! In somewhere between 50 and 100 years, my husband and I were the first…. 1st to do the work, not complain, not kill the plants, and actually do the work. LISTEN TO THESE MEN. THEY’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. DO YOU THINK I WOULD STAY DOING THAT WORK ONCE WE HAD ENOUGH MONEY WHERE WE COULD GET MORE SETTLED AND MOVE ON. YOU’D BE CRAZY. I CAN DO IT, I DID IT, BECAUSE I HAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL BACKBONE. I DIDN’T KNOW IT AT THE TIME, BUT I’VE LEARNED SINCE. I’M 77 YEARS OLD. I BET I COULD DO IT NOW IF I HAD TO. THE PAIN WOULD BE HORRIFIC. BUT I KNOW THE CONDITIONS, I KNOW THE SUFFERING OF EVERY DAY OF BEING OUT IN THOSE FIELDS. IT IS NO WALK IN THE PARK.
The illegal immigrants are not the problem. The problem is businesses that hire them illegally. Drugs are not the problem. The problem is the users that buy them. If the work is that hard, hot, and dangerous, the breaks should be longer, there should be shade provided, and there should be benefits and high pay. Those undocumented farm workers are being exploited.
The solution is simple... If you cant find legal citizens to do the job, then the farmers can hire seasonal workers that are undocumented to do the job, with the governments approval...It called a WORK VISA... We have been through this over and over,a thousand times...
Because Democrats amended the bill last second to include amnesty for 2 million undocumented immigrants. Why? So that they could vote and help swing the election.
They did this in our past history in California when the watch got rid of the Chinese after building the railways and other structure programs they deported them. They murdered them. They burnt their towns. Have we not learned anything from history? Hope you all know how to grow your own food.

If the entire business model depends on exploitation at every level, then perhaps it shouldnt exists. Farm work is hard. Picking crops is hard. Don't tell others what to do until you've done it yourself. Immigrants have been doing this work for many decades. Without them crops will not be harvested. And also homes won't be built. Georgia tried it and crops wasted. Florida is trying it and immediately had employers begging their immigrants not to leave the state. And for those who will undoubtedly say, only with visas. There aren't enough work visas issued. You have to start fixing the problem at the front end. Not at the end.

Actually these stories are covered all the time, just look up farmers saying citizens don't want to do hard labor on google, there are a litany of stories just like this.
@ericdwhitmorec let's dissect why citizens "don't want to do that work". Woman has two infants. Childcare gonna be $12-20 hour. So if job pays less, then it's a losing proposition. GOP wants more babies, remove all the service industry folk (dirty immigrants), privatized healthcare so it's more profitable, extended work hours, no unions, maybe test children when they hit puberty to see who is smart enough to educate and who can be put to work or used to produce more white babies. Yes I'm rambling. But most of that has been said OUT LOUD by the GOP. Next 10 years are going to be worst period of US. But the ultra rich won't suffer. Just us poors.
Ask him how much do they pay?California doesn’t have enough affordable housing for any laborers, they will sleep a dozen to a house to save money.Americans will not do that and work 80 hours a week picking vegetables or fruit in the sun.Now as a kid I did work on farms from the age of 12 to about 15.Stacking hay bales, slopping out dairy barns, cleaning silos, mucking out stalls and steaming greenhouse flowerbeds to kill insect larvae in the dirt for a florist, but by the time I got a car ,I left farming wages for factory wages.

Grew up in the Central Valley. You never see someone that grew up there wanting a job in agriculture. It is really hard work, 6 days a week 10 hours a day during the harvest season. Without these migrant workers. Get used to paying 2 to 4 times more for vegetables, beef, pork, grain, rice, etc. Or get your kids out there working in the fields. They hire at 12-14 years old or so.

There is a group of people who refuse to work as many of their ancestors were slaves in the USA, and they ( in their opinion) are continuing to punish the country for what happened to their family members by committing crimes
In America human value is often judged by how much one make's and/or the work one does. In America it's even more prestigious to say you're unemployed than to say you work at McDonalds.

Illegal immigrants come to the USA because businesses hire them without consequences.
Drugs come through the border because Americans consume drugs.

@@valevisa8429Yes indeed on that one!

So true!!!
If the work is that hard, hot, and dangerous, the breaks should be longer, there should be shade provided, and there should be benefits and high pay. Those undocumented farm workers are being exploited.
Food prices will still skyrocket under those conditions.
What about the labor laws that are supposed to protect workers?
The solution is simple... If you cant find legal citizens to do the job, then the farmers can hire seasonal workers that are undocumented to do the job, with the governments approval...It called a WORK VISA... We have been through this over and over,a thousand times...
Americans see field work as insulting work.
and let us not forget it was trump who tanked the bipartisan border deal
Guess you didn’t read it! Anyone with a brain would have rejected it too.
Because Democrats amended the bill last second to include amnesty for 2 million undocumented immigrants. Why? So that they could vote and help swing the election.
You never read it, did you? That deal would have allowed 5,000 illegals into the country every day.
His ambition to win so he could escape jail was more important than the country’s wellbeing
False propaganda
They did this in our past history in California when the watch got rid of the Chinese after building the railways and other structure programs they deported them. They murdered them. They burnt their towns. Have we not learned anything from history? Hope you all know how to grow your own food.
GOP would say that's fake news.
It would be nice if those who support mass deportations were willing to do these jobs.
Now I truly understand why there was a civil war, and why so many were willing to risk their lives to keep the privilege of owning unpaid workers for life.
I bet everyone of the head farmers voted for dUMP.
Without even thinking of the consequences sadly.
@@jdos5643 If people really are considering the consequences, then why doesn't anyone address immigration, wage laws, or the value of citizenship? Why not create a program for people that desperately want to work those jobs and stop leaving it to a random draw of border crossings?

Not only is it HARD work, it is skilled labor.
There are policies in place to bring in legal immigrant labors to work those crops. Some farmers are already utilizing this process and will not be impacted by a mass deportation because they did it the right way. If the farmers followed the law they wouldn’t be in trouble. They are exploiting those people.
And that’s not the only field that will get hurt. I recently lost my job and I was looking for something just to get by while I find something better, and it found construction work building a 55 floor condo in downtown Austin Texas and to my surprise 99 % of workers were none English speaking migrants working under very harsh conditions and none of them were complaining about it in fact was quite the opposite they were grateful to have a job and if it wasn’t for them that multi billion dollar project would fail. And what brakes my heart is that they hey don’t get any credit for and just get treated like shit . Ppl act like don’t need them but reality is without them the labor force will get deeply hurt
We have immigration because employers don't want to pay a living wage. If we had strong unions like we did in the 50s and 60s we wouldn't have an immigration problem or a declining middle class. Oh well.

Maga needs to get to the fields
Do you really think the new migrants are willing to work in the field, they’d rather go back to their country. 😂 Why would they be willing to work out in the sun all day for little money when they qualify for government assistance, something these migrants don’t qualify for. Just go to a migrant shelter and see how many sign up or how many work more than a few days.

Story been covered over & over for 50 years. You just weren't listening. Reagan encouraged undocumented workers to come. Changed laws so business owners could employee them essentially as slave labor.
When somebody says they pay one of the highest rates per hour but never mentions what it is. They do not pay a high enough rate.

Regular seasonal migrant workers will continue to work. Those who are undocumented are taking away jobs from the regular seasonal yearly migrant.
