After a 2.5 hrs in the air, this re-activated 45 year old airplane completes it's first flight after a long storage period in the KMHV boneyard. I shot this from the jumpseat.

This is the first flight of a DC-8 73 series aircraft after having been returned to service from storage in the Mojave desert for a few years. Departure from KMHV airport, runway 12 on October 9, 2013. The aircraft has just completed a "B" check. This is DC-8 serial number 45991, which had prior operation as N781FT (Flying Tiger Line) and D-ADUI (German Cargo). Captain:Kenn Munn, First Officer:...

Beautiful aircraft, better than the 707, looks sleeker and the epic air inlets on the nose. This and the Convair 990A are my favorite quads along with the VC-10, IL62.
The comet, DC-10, Concorde, L1011, A340 and the MD-90 are my favorite
@@Dc-10guy I love the l1011

La belleza del dc8
Plane spotted in Doha April 27 2022. now registered as TT-DFJ for CFS Air Cargo. Flying since 1968... you go girl!
Yeee Hah!
Avião bonito
Wonder if this was a passenger commercial flight ✈️?
No passengers or cargo. First flight with just crew after being recovered from the MHV boneyard.
The DC-8 is a beautiful airplane... so pleased to see it flying again (thanks to you folks)
NASA has been conducting research in the Great Lakes recently, with some very low flyovers in a DC-8.

Greal airplane. I flew 602AL for many years at ATI.
Great video just a private pilot but understand and respect your skill
No passengers, very powerful upgraded engines, equals very short take off!
I've been in the cockpit of a SAS DC-8-60
That's gotta be Vince R. sitting side-saddle! There just weren't that many DC-8 FE's around, even back then. And even fewer with an Anguillan accent!
Yes. You are correct!
Ok is this a UPS or an ATI bird?
Was an ATI
The videographer needed to stabilize/level his camera because it made it appear the airplane was in a constant bank all the way to touchdown.
Very nice, miss these classic birds...
I flew 602AL at Emery as an FE and then FO.
Our 60 series DC8s had the same Honeywell EFIS, but by the sound of the reversers, this looks like a 70 series. So many memories. Nice video.

Nice sound i love watching flying airplane awesome video .
My father captained the DC-8 for United Airlines out of LAX from 1966-1971, including the stretch DC-8 beginning in 1968 before moving on to captain of the DC-10 in 1971 and 747 in 1972.
She certainly looks like a hands on aircraft where I crew has to be on top of their game.
Jesus that was nuts.
what a beautiful plane, i love its cockpit and i like those windows on top
los pilotos son un par de jovenzuelos...... esos sí saben..
seguramente estaba con un miedo total
el de la cámara no sirve... mal muy mal toma
State of the art glass cockpit
I prefer my pilots wear ball caps
Probably cause of the eyebrow windows.
Brilliant thanks.
ex emery worldwide cargo plane. i use to load this plane :)
Nací en el 69 , y era mi avión favorito de niño.DC-8.Luego me gustó mucho también el B-707 Y B-727. Hoy mi favorito es el A-350.
A350 the most beautfoul plane today.
I was the F/E on this a/c ferrying it from KROW (Roswell) to MROC (San Jose, Costa Rica) in 06-2002 and again for the post-heavy check maint. test flt. in 11-2002, MROC - MROC. Beautiful a/c with a lot of very practical mod's having been done to it. It's probably still flying great somewhere.
Why is that camera sideways on final aproach??
The only transport i wished i could have flown in my flight career!! Capt. Anna Colwell (UAL) retired!
Beautiful yellow lights in cockpit roof
And you could turn them to red during the night.
The longest single aisle airliner ever
I Think 757 300 Is longer
DC-8's with cfm's are fantastic.
DC8ですよね。水平儀が液晶化されているようですが。DC8が作られた時代に液晶の計器はまだなかったと思うのですが。ここだけ取り替えたのでしょうか?
Great Aircraft
Where's Caneman! 😎
FAA LAX. May be a Fed, but I bet he’s still “Pretty dang Smooooooth”.
