this game as well as the scopetare has been passed down through my family for decades and I will continue passing it, they're such great games. also the card throwing is a mandatory thing to know how to do edit: i don't know if it's some rule that we have in my family but if you have a 6 and two cards that add up to 6 on the table, you have to take the single 6 card first
The editing, the story-telling and the genuine appreciation for the culture make this video so good. I loved it~ And I also loved the Onsen vid and the gluten-free recommendations vid. I truly appreciate that you took the time to share your experiences and help others through them.
Thank you so much for this!
wow that "french voice" got a thicker accent than you ,lol
Did you train for this and if so, what did you do? I am concerned about all the huge elevation changes and constant days of a lot of miles...
We didn't specifically train for this, but we exercise and go on small hikes often. You can do it!
I'm voting goat cheese. LOL
we've got one!!
I know a variation of Scopa that not many italians know, and i think it's even better than the original game, it's called Ruspo. HOW TO PLAY RUSPO The game is played like scopa, and the points at the end of the match are counted in the same way, but there are this changes: If on the first four cards on the table an Ace shows up, you put another card on the table, put the Ace in the deck and shuffle it. Instead of taking by playing a card face up, you take by playing a card face down, so this allows the players to cheat (for example, there is a 7 on the table, the player cheats by playing a 6 face down and takes the 7). Of course, the players can also take with the correct card, but they still have to play it face down. The player that didn't play can doubt what the other player did before them: if they doubt the cards that have been taken on the turn before are revealed, if the player that played the cards played correctly, they keep the cards and mark a scopa, if they cheated, they put the cards they took on that turn on the table and the opponent marks a scopa. The opponent has to doubt the other player's action before he plays a card, if it was the last card, before they see the new cards. The Aces are special cards: the player can play an Ace face down and say "ruspo" then take all the cards on the table, even if there aren't any; taking all the cards with an Ace does not mark a scopa. Clearly, the player can do a ruspo with every card, not just an Ace, as long as the opponent doesn't doubt; if they doubt, the mechanism explained before is applied. The point at the end are counted the same way as Scopa, the first to arrive to 41 points wins. SIMPLIFIED PRIMIERA: Who has the most sevens wins the primiera point. If they tie you count the sixes, if they also tie no one gets the primiera point. REBELLO: another point can be marked to who has the Rebello, which is the King of Denari.
0:40 watching this on a beautiful Indian Summer afternoon in The Presidio.
Do you know Briscola? Is another italina card game. And for me is funnier than scopa. Im from toscana, this video is intresting BRAVO
I have played Briscola once, but I shall give it another try. Thanks for the tip!
This is the hypocrisy of the Parisians! They show solidarity with Quebec, but oppress Corsica.
Are there places to stop and go to the bathroom?
Yes you can usually use the bathrooms at the huts/cafe's along the way!
I wrote commect
My Italian friend taught me a simplified version of la Prima: Whoever gets the most 7s gets the point. If it's tied, you go to 6s, and then 5s, etc. So if you have 3 or 4 7s, you get the point. If you each have 2, you then count 6s.
That's awesome, thanks for the tip!
Well documented and enjoyable to watch! The longest my friends and I have done was 30 or so miles, with plenty of elevation gain, divided into 3 days, but that was with a full pack, food and water on our backs, and extra gear weighing easily into the 40+lb range (we had partners who couldn't carry as much weight so we'd "balance" the packs"). Your thoughts and experiences make this trip just one step closer to reality for us!
So happy to hear that, that's why we made it! You can definitely do this with a light pack then 🤠
EDIT: You do not add a card to your hand after every turn. Both players play through the 3 dealt cards until no players have any cards in their hand, then 3 cards are re-dealt to each player. This is done in rounds until the game is over.
Amazing video. I did the TMB also in last year July (2-11). really hot weather with thunderstorms at night. I was at every refuge you went, not always for sleeping and sometimes just for a snack or a midday meal, like at Col de balme (an omelette with soup, with indeed strange hosts) Sad you didn't go to fenetre D'Arpette with the amazing glacier du Trient. My hardest day was from refuge de Bertone to La Fouly with almost 30km i stayed at refuge de la flégère with a bed and windowview at Mont Blanc The TMB is amazing
That is awesome!! Yeah we were hoping to see the Fenetre, maybe next time. Dang, you went all the way from Bertone to La Fouly, that is a big day indeed, well done!
I’m Italian, from Genoa. All my friends here in Genoa have been in Corsica multiple times, it is geographically so close to us and it’s so similar to Liguria. I love Corsica but I must say when I’m there I kind fell awkward with the French people. I don’t like how Corsica is so gallicized, so French, because I know I’m technically in France but I’m not really in France. I fully support Corsican people because I think they belong to the Mediterranean sea and I suffer when I see how they are not connected with Italy, especially now that we are in the EU and we suppose to be more united. Viva la Corsica!
Great video. Hope to go next summer…But…how can you be from Maine and not like beer? 🍺🦞??
even worse, I have Czech ancestry 😂
I cannot find the choux cream place or cake place in Kyoto you mentioned

It's a great tool to assist your language learning journey. As a native French speaker, the first two sentences you used as examples were somewhat off. The translations provided did not match was was being said.

I'm a Cypriot woman and I want to meet a man of corsica

Love this. I find Duolingo is only good for reinforcing what you already know and not for actually learning very much.
Loved this concise, humorous, well-edited travelogue. I'm planning for 2026. I saved it so I can go back over it again later. Thank you! Your French was impressive.
Thank you! You are in for a treat, it is so fun 😊
With an AI pin and microphone, you're probably not going to need to speak the foreign language anyway! But, I'll still learn it because I enjoy it and it's easier to get to know someone
yeah i think learning the language will always be best for the human connection too
Highly amusing! I am setting off to do half of the TMB in a week, and I am not ready!
Thanks! Just put one foot in front of the other 😊
Interesting video. I’m English and My wife is Czech. I first went to Czech in 1997. She is from Silesia too. Near Bruntal. Her grandma has some crazy stories. It has changed a lot in the 25 years .
It sure has. Thanks for watching!

I could see it 😂
THIS IS IT! This is the video i needed for my upcoming trip to japan! THANKYOUUUUUU
Love to hear that 😀
A trip to corsica, while NF is playing in the car.. nothing can go wrong! awesome
The French only recognize French as the national language .The European Union should address thsi and make France recognize regional languages. Thsi would kelp preserve the language if the langauge would be taught alongside French
If Monaco,San Marino,Andorra and Liechtenstein can be self govern so can Corsica
This was an awesome video! What was the name of the airbnb if you don’t mind sharing?

Thank you so much!!!
I was just over there in the Alps. I could barely walk 10 to 20 minutes at a slight incline. I don’t know what level of out of shapeness I am but oh my gosh, I really don’t know how anybody does it.
One step at a time 😊 keep on keeping on!
We are older and like that you visited a lot of towns along the way. most other videos are just at higher elevations. Is there a specific path that you followed to visit the towns? I also have a HUGE fear of heights. Is there an opton to get the feel of the trail, visit more towns and avoi drop offs and extreme heights?
We followed the Tour de Mont Blanc route which goes through many towns along the way. On the last full day we stopped for lunch and ended up taking a slightly lower elevation route to Le Flegere which avoided ladders on that section of trail. (I don't have a name for this section but if you look on a TMB map it runs parallel to the standard route and there are signs along to trail pointing you to Le Flegere). I am also afraid of heights and I understand your hesitance. If you wanted to avoid the high alpine areas you could take a bus and connect to the next town. However, having completed this route, the stretches of trail that I was initially nervous about were definitely the most beautiful sections. Even with my apprehension, they were my favorite days on the trail and I would encourage you to try the standard TMB route. Other than the ladders I mentioned between Bonhomme and Le Flegere, and the descent from Le Flegere to Les Houches most of the trail does not have any technical terrain.
@@braunventures Thank you!
I cannot find Komeko Takoyaki on google maps. Can you please provide the address?
sure, here it is from her instagram: maps.app.goo.gl/m7EBnWyxZP1enMQz5?g_st=ic
Just finished the TMB for the second time. Enjoyed the video. Hiking poles were absolutely essential for me though.
Awesome, did you do it in the opposite direction the second time? Hiking poles were essential for us too, thanks for watching 😊
@@braunventures No. We stayed with counterclockwise and also built in a down day in Courmayeur and Champex-Lac .
not italian here, but growing up i was taught a variation of this game where the matching of cards had to add up to 15. other than that it's pretty much the same, except you couldn't just pull cards from the deck, someone had to deal the cards only when all the players had played all three cards they had in hand. also i have no idea why i was recommended this video, i don't play cards lol
Haha well, welcome! That sounds like a really interesting variation, thanks for sharing😊
This is the spanish variant called: Escoba!
Very similar to Cassino which is one of my favourites!
Ah thats cool! Reading it now it looks quite similar. I just love the Napolitane cards, when you pull those out outside of Italy it always attracts a crowd 😊
Love the ride! Done this a couple times but love hearing the history along the way. I’m usually too heads down to remember all the history and take it in. Thanks!
Thank you 😊
Thank you for this video! I've been researching gluten free restaurants/bakeries for my upcoming Japan trip. I've found quite a bit using google maps. Do you have other resources you would recommend?
www.endlessdistances.com/category/travel/asia/japan/ she has a lot of good resources for gluten free travel, take a look at her site as well!
@@braunventures thank you!
I was following up until the scoring aspect
Also just seems like after scopas and the # of cards would be sufficient to call a winner. Idk though looks like a good time maybe I just need to shut up and play 😂
I think the 'next level' scoring to a little over the top but the basic scoring is easy to do. It is a great game. I have played a few rounds myself.
If it's any consolation it always takes me a couple explanations to get any card/board game 😂. Once you try it a couple times the scoring isn't hard and it makes the game more interesting
We dined there once, then stopped by Quick burger on the Champs Elysees because we were still hungry. 😊
sounds like you got the full fine dining experience!
