Just found your channel this evening. . Your goldfish look great and im tempted to have a go .all i wanted when i started two years ago was a couple of goldfish. Father fish method works for sure. Got a couple of tanks with the minnows and plants. Fantastic fish. Great Chanel and all your tanks are great too. Deep substrate every time. 😁
@billybobblogs3627 OK... father fish method would be extremely hard to do with goldfish though in my opinion and goldfish prefer 30% water changes weekly to stop them stunting also they are not plant friendly plus if you do a dirted tank they will just dug up and release the dirt eventually .... they also need 4 or 5 times the filtration you think they need ... or compared to what tropical fish need but yes you can keep goldfish successful on a budget on a smaller scale .... my goldfish rank was set up to prove that point ... and have been in their budget 36" tank now for 16 months .... goodluck
@29fb040 yes mate . I get it. I've watched all of your videos on the goldfish tank. They are dirty fish in a aquarium. It's a lot more work. They certainly like to eat your eloadea . I've got a few father fish style tanks. The last couple I started with plants a few snails and I put the scuds in from outside source and left them for a month or more before putting the minnows in. They were teaming with scuds untill I put the fish in. There are still scuds but no where near as many. Building a ecosystem. The first father fish style tank I did fish in cycle. It's all good. Many ways to skin a cat. I've put feeder shrimp in a couple of the tanks. Armarno in another. . For me I think the secret of no water change is lightly stock with fish. Very interesting. Only been fish keeping the last two or three years. . Father fish method goes against everything they will tell you in the fish store. . I've found every fish tank I've got. Like you said in your video. It can be done on a budget.. Thanks for the videos. .
@billybobblogs3627 shrimp.never do well in a tank with skuds in
I am going to try your method of adding water. I have a two month old tank and have a problem with shrimp deaths.
@naturegirl175 yes do .... shrimp die very easy .... it's best to try to water change as little as possible 10% max and if its a reasonable size tank 60 litres plus if well planted once in a blue moon
Are you drip aclimating your shrimp when you buy them.... are they dying when new or are they dying after water changing

you need more plants for FF method
@oruwatching there is enough the zostefloria will practically take over in 2 months and the elodea in the back corner will run riot also ... there's is loads of plants
@@29fb040 Sorry, it's hard to identify what's in the tank.
@oruwatching then watch the setup video that's what it's there for anyway as I said it's a budget version of the father fish method .... I'm not claiming it is the father fish method ..... I also thought I had displayed all the plants well in the video .....
thks for showing us. I have 2 FF style tanks presently. Will be updating both on my channel in the next few weeks if you are interested. They are fishless. I am going for other lifeforms at the moment. One is 4 months old (nano, 18 litres), the other 80 litres. One problem I have had is soil. We know that everyones soil is not the same, but I have been using soil from different locations outside. I only just solved this mystery this week. By choosing different locations I have been unintentionally changing the soil mix. My present soil mix is far more fertile it seems. Soils can be deceptive. Even two soils that look the same. A giveaway is plants. Never use a soil outside without plants growing on it already. I have discovered this the hard way. If a terrestrial plant won’t grow in it, nothing else will😢 I feed both tanks fish food, same as if they had fish in them.
@thesolaraquarium I used peat free compost from the hardware shop homebase and sand was from there too just cheap sharp builders sand .... it cost around £5 for both that way you know your dirt base has good nutrition for the plants pluse it contains alot of the minerals etc father fish adds to his soil . And also as this is my first dirted tank I wanted to put in a substrate I could replicate easily if I decide to do another tank the same way anyway so far so good I see good plant colour and growth even after 3 weeks ... and fish spawned and the yellow shrip went in and are happy too ... I will watch your videos later bye
@ i can’t believe how stupid I have been. I have been sometimes using depleted impoverished dirt from outside and wondering why my plants won’t grow lol. Its a long story to explain it. It hasa to do with the outside location. It was from a mound of dirt that has been there for a decade. Convenient yes, but trouble.
Especially for a small tank, I wouldn't clean out the filter and do a water change at the same time.
@@stevegee8010 that filter will not be cleaned for possibly 6 months to a year
Lots of people have trouble introducing shrimp too early. Make sure they’re adequately fed (but not too much!) until algae and biofilms have developed. A few leaves could do the trick. Best of luck!
@letsgobrandon4601 I find bactar ae is great for growing bio film even in new tanks .... once you drip aclimate your shrimp properly there's never any problems even putting them in a brand new setup Clean water or clean tanks don't kill shrimp not being drip aclimating to it is what kills them... Watch the drip aclimating if anyone interested in how it's done... ua-cam.com/video/pB4Ymy7S9Eo/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

This Styrofoam coffee cup was given to me by .... Madeline Healey, PhD candidate, Dalhousie University It's has been compressed by water pressure it was sent down to the bottom of the labradour sea 3500 meter .. on board the rv celtic explorer .. she drew on it first then as it compresses the colours intensify it seems a really nice gift at the end of my voyage ....
Love it! I have floating plants in mine that help quickly take care of nitrogen fluctuations. Also your sand cap is very thin. You might benefit from another 1/2 inch if you run into problems with the dirt seeping nutrients into the water column. Best of luck and post more updates :)
@letsgobrandon4601 the sand is 3 inches deep... if I make it any deeper there be no room for the water lol
Beautiful! It will be so fun and rewarding watching it mature.. Good for you and your fish ,Man
That is way too much substrate in that small aquarium. Enjoy your muddy swamp tank.
@tktropicals4997 it seems to be doing OK for the moment see the day 10 video ... and an inch of soil / potting compost .... is an inch no matter what size tank it is ......

True about not needing a heater but I think it's good to have one to start at least to help the plants, microfauna and bacteria until it's all better established.

Hey man, thanks for sharing - undertaking a single carb conversion for my 535 with the same carb, just wondering what jets you used as a baseline for my own. Cheers!
OK if using the same tm34 carb you need to adjust the float height before jetting as it will leak fuel. Out the overflow when on the side stand and possibly on cornering too although I can't comfirm. If it does it cornering but it does do it on the side stand.... If you don't and do it later then you have to re jet as lowering the fuel level. In the carb leans out the engine again..... My jetting was pilot jet was in previous comments.... 155 main needle clip in top groove so needle as low as it goes.... The pilot jet I tell you in next comment as I can't remember..... Off top of my head if I settled on 15.0 or 17.5
Yes 17.5 pilot jet and I thing mixture screw ended up at one full turn out.... My bike had the black widow replacement pipes and headers on it that may or may not make a difference Did you watch the other two videos of it idling and my 15 mile run?????
@@29fb040 Thanks for all the advice pal, that's really helpful! I'll check out your other stuff on your bike when I finally get round to ordering new jets for this carb
@@drowningbanana3890 no bother buddy goodluck
Great tanks you have there. No idea why people make keeeping Goldfish look so hard. Liked and subbed.
It's easy enough if you follow some simple rules..... Weekly 30% water changes after cycle is Finnished whether or not ammonia or nitrite is present or not.... No substrate or very deep substrate of a fine gravel 1-2 mm diameter no in between.... Deep or none.... and at least double the filtration you think you need....
@@29fb040 Why do you say deep or none?
A deep substrate allows fine dirt to filter down through it locking it away as a mulm if the substrate is not deep enough or fine enough that dirt and mulm and it's toxins get churned up over and over again as the goldfish forage in the substrate a finer gravel also does not allow food to get lost in it causing excess waste....... Other way is a no gravel bare bottom tank in which you can syphon all the waste and dirt out regularly and you can see its gone.... Coarse gravels no matter how deep should be avoided they allow food waste in between the gravels it's then lost and they are. Not able to lock away mulm or it's associated toxins.... What's on the bottom of the tank is as important as the rest of the tank.....
I did go to upgrade them to a 200 litre when a year had passed ..... bit it didn't go too well lol so they are still in their original little budget tank and 14 months on they are still alive and well although I have now upgraded the filter system to two internal fluval u3 filters .... ua-cam.com/video/nWO1IiI36s0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

@@toriechuntraruk3611 nice good luck there are some videos on water and fish in cycling etc further down with lots of info in discriptions etc you might find useful or you might not either way good luck.... Best tip is but double the filtration you think you need if you think you need one fluval 3 buy two lol I'm not a big fan of external filters for goldfish most are gravity fed into the filter and that don't create enough suction to move the bigger bits of goldfish poop into the filter.... Beautiful goldfish. What is your substrate?
Thanks the substrate is a mixture of normal pea gravel and this stuff I get it in pets at home it's called aquarium sand but it's alot bigger than sand it's about 2mm it's mixed about 50/50 not on purpose it's just a mix of stuff I had in a big tub in the shed when I set the tank up from a mixture of small tropical tanks and shrimp tanks I had dismantled over the years..... www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pets-at-home-aquarium-sand-black-8kg
nice
I will do snother update in September that will be a year from i set it up ..... As theres nothing more to add to this series ...... Any questions post in the comments 😊
Hey, do you have like a list of parts you used? Im just getting into switching to a single carb
No no parts list 😂..... I used a tm 34 munkini carb from Allen proformance in Nottingham UK.... do not buy a vm or pkw carb I bought the manifold on etsy website it's from Lithuania...... I bought a a full main jet and pilot jet kit from Allen proformance in UK also..... Buy cheap copy's of Ebay and you don't know if they are good or rejects....... I had to but a throttle cable kit and make up a new throttle cable I bought a longer bit of fuel hose and a new fuel filter...... Then I bought a kn air filter to fit 48-55mm intake..... I bought hose clamps and gasket glue not gasket maker stuff proper gasket glue and that about it oh and 12 spark plugs to have lots of clean sets for doing plug chops when out riding it to set up the jetting and needle position
Whole job cost me around 400 quid UK sterling pounds and more than a month's worth of tinkering
@@29fb040 that's the main issue I seem to find is the manifold, was going to get a carb kit through mikuniez in Australia and have it shipped over here (Canada) lol
@@dabbber6 the etsy manifold is reasonable..... I bought this www.ebay.com/p/4041446700 The munkini Oz guy is very helpful it was him told me buy the tm-34 flat slide carb as its a proformance card designed for 4 stroke engines.... I bought a vm30 first and couldn't get it to work tried for months then I emailed the munkini Oz guy after watching his car tuning videos he told me vm30 to small and only for 2 stroke dirt bikes up to 350cc and pwk cars only for two stroke bikes also and he said they will never run correctly and will always fowl the plugs etc .... I put 2000 mile on that wee bike then sold it it topped 90 mph see other videos and plugs looked great after first 1000 miles I had the needle as low as it would go so clip was in top groove.... The main jet was a 155 genuine munkini jet and the pilot jet was a 17.5...... Also because of the lean of the bike the float hight needs to be reduced so less fuel in carb bowl if you don't do that the fuel leaks out the carb overflow when on the side stand or cornering hard..... This needs to be done before jetting or you need to reject after as less fuel in the carb makes it run more lean...... Anyway it takes time to tune it and you need to follow the correct procedure or you waste your time..... For example set the idle and pilot jet first..... When doing that do not rev the bike if it back fires it can harm and damage the valves....... Then set the needle height..... When setting it you need to try and just ride mid. Range only say up to 40--50mph..... After that set the main jet when setting it you need to try rid the bike 65mph and above..... Main jet only governs the top end.... When the needle is fully extracted from the main jet hole...... Its not easy and takes time..... But you learn loads doing it good luck
Some interesting reading on goldfish growth rates tank size and goldfish stunting for thise thst are interested .... www.hepper.com/stunted-goldfish-growth/
I've read that the growth hormone is contained within the blood, and very little is actually released into the water column. Also, the amount that is released in the water is so little and dissipates very quickly. So it has little effect on other fish. This is why, in combination with genetics, you can get different sizes of fish in a small aquarium that started out the same. But they do inhibit their growth based on space and resources, individually. I'm nothing more than an enthusiast, so I won't put my hand in fire for either explanation 😅
@@simplelife6827 some interesting science done keeping goldfish In tubes in flowing water and growth rates..... I'm a believer in it will effect your fish in smaller aquariums and shorten the fishes life considerably hence why I suggest changing 30% weekly no matter what your water parameters is are
@@simplelife6827 anyway if you look at all that tank videos I only recommend putting two single tail goldfish in that size of a tank as it was a tank setup to help people with small tanks and goldfish without the usual Facebook group comment saying no no no..... To small etc etc.... I put 4 fish in to prove a point that if my 4fish can live happily in it then two would have no problem in reality no matter what size of an aquarium you have within reason up to 200 gallons 6 foot long tank goldfish rarely grow over 10 inches have had them in a13, 000 gallon 6 foot deep pond and they only reached 10-12 inches so two ten inch fish should live OK in 3 foot long tank in my opinion with decent care and live a reasonably healthy life.... For 5-10 years.... And should grow to 8-10 inches easy enough.... Unless they have poor genetics from day one which is often the case especially with single colour orange common goldfish often called feeder or bait fish..... Anyway asi said I will do another video in September that will be a year since setup .... I may after the year out them into a 200 litre and I may just give them to someone with a pond and shut the tank down again I do not know yet....
@29fb040 I'm not nay saying you at all. The funny thing is that people have 1 goldfish in a 55 galllon by itself and can't keep it alive. Those same people will look at your tank with healthy fish and troll, ridiculous.
@@simplelife6827 lol everyone is entitled to their opinion it doesn't bother me either way I'm 59 and started keeping aquatic things at around 5 years old.... In everything from jam jars to old bath tubs long before internet and groups or youtu.be or test kits etc was invented... so I just do my own thing if the videos help. One person to keep their fish alive and healthy it's a worth while exercise not everyone can afford a big setup but lots would like their kids etc to experience the pleasure of keeping fish.... And more often than not people buy goldfish thinking they are a good place to start and many often end up dead and the tank given away or tossed out into a shed or the bottom of a garden untill it gets broken.... So if it helps one person jobs done as there are very few videos out there say look yes OK you bought a small tank and goldfish.... Maybe wasn't the best idea but hey you can make it work..... And here's how to do it OK goid luck bye
what would you say is the minimum size tank for 2 fancy goldfish?
36"x 15"x 12" usually sold as 100 litre tank but generally holds about 70 litres once gravel etc is added.... That's what I would use as a bare minimum for two goldfish I have 37 years experience keeping fish the tank and fish etc are for demonstration only to help newbies who have bought tanks and goldfish and know nothing about cycling tanks or filtration etc etc to try and help them to keep their goldfish alive and healthy in the first few months..... If I was a newbie and was seriously considering keeping goldfish and not someone who thought oh that's nice I will get that etc.... I would be looking for at least a 200 litre tank a long tank is always better than a short tall one good luck if your starting out
A good tip. Is if you keep a couple of goldfish in 100 litres put in filtration for double and if you keep goldfish in a 200 litre tank use filtration for 400 litres etc I'm a big fan of using two independent filters rather than one big one then you clean one one week one the next week never both the same week etc... If starting off watch the other goldfish videos might help might not bye
@@29fb040thanks, right now I have an 80L tank and 3 sponge filters 2 of them are 40L filter and one is 120L filter, I also have another air pump with a nano bubble device on the end ( like an air stone ) but I am thinking of getting a bigger tank maybe 120L to get one more goldfish in there. Right now I have an oranda who is a bit bigger than your fish and a ranchu who is tiny. Didn’t realise how messy goldfish where though😂
@@georgegilroy5439 yes you really need some type of mechanical filtration too I love the fluval internal filters a u4 or u3 then keep the one big sponge filter going with it if the flow is too much for the orandas ranchu etc then put it at the back and face it against the side even I'd you have to build up some rocks or something to hold it there they are great filters remove the carbon pad don't use it. And add more biomax to the center bit.... Makes a great goldfish filter system the fluval all can pump out top and bottom of the filter or along a type of spray bar along its lenght to reduce the current without compromising its suction fine gravel is best then no food loss into the gravel and deep 3-4 inches of it or else a bare bottom tank either or no in between good luck
looks well bigger than a 65 litre#
I measured the water going into its marketed as a 105 liter tank and if you had no gravel in it and filled it to the neck it might very well hold 100 litres... I do not know it's 36 inches x 12 x 15 there is 4 inches of gravel one side sloping down to about 3 inches the other side and nobody fills a tank to the very top so average depth is 11 inches give or tank that's 4752 cubic inches..... Which is 77. 8 litres of water if only the gravel is in there there is 3 bits of roots a double sponge filter and a fluval u3 all adding to water displacement so you do the maths yourself this was a wee take I set up in 5 hours from empty to having in 4 fish to do a fish in cycle to prove a point..... As I had said to someone you could realistically keep 2 goldfish in that size of a tank on a budget but I got called everything from cruel to an idiot so I set out to prove the point and not only did I prove it with the two fish I recommend I decided to double it to 4 fish..... I measured the water into a washing up dish with a one litre jug untill dish was full then I used that dish to fill the tank after I had washed the gravel and put it in and counted the number of washing up dishes it took to fill it there was 9 liters in a dish so I take it its a ten liter washing up dish as I had to leave about an inch from top to carry it to the tank..... There was 7 dishes to fill it nicely full 63 litres but I put in two more jugs because the person I originally gave the advice to had asked the question.... How many goldfish could she keep in a 65 liter tank..... So no matter if you think it looks bigger in that tank there is 65litres of water......
I also have a 700, litre aquarium andi would safely say if you took all the water out and measured the water there wouldn't be 500litres of actual water
what would you say is the minimum size tank for 2 fancy goldfish? @@29fb040

This and the other video is for people trying to or wanting to keep a small goldfish tank on a budget it may help it may not help it's just a wee tank I set up to show how it can be done on a budget not everyone can afford huge luxury setups or the bill associated with large heated aquariums it's a basic setup that works nothing more nothing less so before posting rude comment consider than not everyone can afford luxury aquariums with state of the art equipment.... But would still. Like to keep a couple of fish..... In a smaller aquarium whether for themselves or for their kids the plants have been in only 3 weeks the elodea is solely for the fish to nibble on its there for that purpose only.... The fact I mention it puts out ariel roots and uses nitrates from the water column is secondary and would only do that sufficiently if grown in a large amount..... So go troll someone else if you don't like the video or the information in it that's fine by me I'm not asking or forcing anyone to watch my videos 😊😊

There is also lots of into in the discription of this video
I will be doing a follow up video about goldfish stunting why it happens what causes it things to do to prevent it at another time.... I ran out of space in the discription to cover how I cycle my fish tanks and about general maintenance so I will add a link to the next video that covers this when I do another video The cycle I do is detailed in my other video wasn't enough room to type it out in discription 😊😊

Hello please can you tell me what sizes oj jets did u use? Im getting crazy....i have install a mikuni vm34 starting from 120 jet and finally 210.....i cannot reach the right setup but seems with 120 jet it runs well Thanks for what you can seggest me !!!
No point your using a different carb and it's a carb designed for a 2 stroke engine not a 4 stroke engine..... I am using a tm34 munkini flat slide proformance carb my pilot jet is a 17.5 my needle is at Lowest setting.... The clip is in the top groove.... And my main jet is a 155.... But a vm series carb is a shit carb for the job and will always run rich and blacken your plugs and backfire
What carb did u use?
Munkini Tm34 flat slide proformance carb
What are the tank dimensions?
Tank is 72 inches long and 24 inches wide and 24 inches high filled only with water it would hold about 700 litres but with gravel and gap at the top it has roughly 600 litres in it so it's roughly 1. 8 meters long and 0.55 meters wide and high
