Приєднався 20 кві 2022
This Channel is called Selective Imagery and it's purpose is to share my love of Photography with others. I will share videos primarily on Nature Photography, however at times there might be a mix of Street/Landscape and Macro Photography as well. I hope to inspire people to get out of their homes and explore the world around them and hopefully take images and capture their lives along the way. My motto is "Enjoy Life....Capture some of It".
Thanks for the Memories Part 15
A detailed discussion on the classic Topcon RE Super that was introduced in 1963 and was a stong competitor to the Nikon F.

Well on New Years Eve Nature decided to impress me once again with something I had never seen before, an Eagle taking out a duck (Ruddy I believe), Wow! Thought I would share it with you folks and have a Happy New Year from Selective Imagery.

Bird Photo's on Thanksgiving .... No Kidding.
I hate to see this. You've been doing it so long
Yes I did do it much longer than anticipated and it was now time to focus on doing things with my wife when she retires and do other content on my channel like I use too many months ago. Although that is not viewed a lot it gives me personal satisfaction. We are happy to see Chuck come back on his channel and many are excited to go back to his brand/style of livestream, let's face it I can't rant like Chuck. I wish him the best and will still do a livestream once a month for the Photo Review. Thanks for stopping by, appreciate it. - Jeff
Hi Jeff, very through review, did you secure an auto winder as well? If you did, I wonder if the bottom of that winder replicated functionally all the features of the bottom of the camera? Amazingly advanced for 1963!! Still wonder if Minolta would have survived where they would be today technologically with digital cameras, Great Review!!
Thanks for watching. I didn't really look for a auto winder to be honest the camera and the lens cost enough. I bought (2) other Topcon camera bodies 1 that works but I have to change the seals and the mirror foam and is in great shape although I will have a few specs I'll see thru the viewfinder while the other body works but the viewfinder and focusing screen are so filthy I can barely see thru it, not worth sending out, may work on it myself someday but I still made out OK, nice camera case, flash that works and 2 lenses for around $55.00.
I have had no luck finding a motor drive for this camera but I found out it would cover the switch that turns on the meter, you would have to turn this on before mounting the drive/winder.
Very nice camera. It is pity that this camera brand did not manage to survive. Many interesting features. Do you think that the narrow mount was the main reason behind their demise?
It was a contributing factor I am sure because the glass eventually wasn't as fast as the competitors and like I said limited to the 20mm focal length at the wide end but many lenses were exceptional for their time. Some camera manufacturers couldn't respond when electronics started becoming prominent within camera bodies but they made great mechanical cameras. Topcon did have some electronics early compared to others but Nikon and Canon really went fast with technology but think of it, even Minolta, who were first with a lot of camera features didn't survive. Leica needed help from Minolta to have electronics in their early cameras otherwise they might have fallen but their build quality and the aura of a hand crafted camera and their exceptional glass kept them in the game.
Great review, thanks for sharing Jeff👍
Your very welcome, take care.
Very cool video Jeff. I forgot i have one these that was given to me from a family friend. Well done!
Glad you liked it, I'm sure the seals and mirror foam are shot, I had to do that, somewhat of a pain to do but worth it.
Another great video Jeff. I will miss you on Saturday nights, but will be looking forward to the Photo Reviews. That is the highlight of the month. You have attracted a lot of fine photographers who show their work. Talk to you soon.
Thanks David, a special group of folks that make it a wonderful show.
Jeff: Thank you and the panel for all the great comments on my granddaughters softball photo...I shot about a 10 frame burst on this one and the only one with her eyes closed! I made a print and framed it for her
Woody it's a great photo and I am pleased you made a print, she will remember that moment now for years to come.
@@selectiveimagery Gave her the print for Christmas
I am already looking forward to future photos reviews in 2025. The work we see is inspiring. Happy New Year!!!!
We are fortunate to have such a skilled group of Photographers that are willing to share some of their work with everyone. It's a pleasure to host. - Jeff
Dear Jeff. Thx a lot for the last 1.5 years. Stay healthy, keep on taking pictures and see you on the next photoreview. 🙏
Thanks Paul appreciate it and thanks for you sharing your thoughts the other night on the Z50/Z50II and D500, great job!
Also: thanks Scubarazzi for the presentation. The first one I have seen from someone who has actually shot the D500. To me the Z50-2 is highly interesting for its weight. As for being a D500 successor, I don't feel like it can be at this pricepoint and doesn't need to be. It is a good compromise. An excellent camera from what I learned. However for wildlife, I'd have rather something much closer to a OM 1 or Fuji XH2-S or Canon r7, yet I can't and don't want to spend the money for a new system.
Dear Martin, gerne doch. I think it is not about comparing the D500 to the z50 ii. On one side in 2016 the D500 was a Baby-Flagship camera but on the other side after 8 years cameras got better. But so far i'm happy with it. As many of the people on the channel often say, there is no "bad" camera that is current today, we are spoiled (not only with nikon)
@ True!
It's alway tough to switch to a new system and not cost effective overall plus dealing with different Menu systems can be a real pain. I try to recommend to folks to stay in their ecosystem, if you shoot Sony and have a lot of glass stay there, same with other damera systems. Unless a brand does something unique you have to have to do a specific thing for your business it's tough to leave.
Oops! Seems like I mistakingly wrote that I used the 70-200 in my last picture. (could've sworn) But it was the 105 macro. The exif, that is displayed in the corner is correct.
No problem, I can't remember what I had for dinner 2 nights ago. 🤣
I will watch later today. Something came up last night so I'll watch today. Sorry I missed it live.
No Problem, watch it if a football game gets boring!
All my photos were taken in the South of Portugal
Thanks for the info!
Fantastic capture! Happy New Year Jeff and best for all future endeavors,
Thanks Jim, glad it happened then the next weeks temperatures are not going to thrill me to go out and shoot.
It’s been wonderful sharing Saturday nights with you, and as others have said this is a ‘see you later’. Thanks so much for keeping the spirit, of this little community that Chuck started, going strong for so long. The inspiration that you, your panelists and community has brought, is has been invaluable to us all.
Thank you for your kind words and participation on the Panel and the Photo reviews. thats what makes the show, the interaction between fellow photographers and willingness to share.
Wow nice to see al does people back ! oh and enjoy 2025 Jeff Neville !
No AI on anything I do other than what camera manufacturers tout as AI in their gear. Have a Happy New Year unfortunately with this mornings news it's not starting off in the right direction.
Have a nice and healthy 2025 for you and your family.Nice to Chuck back on the channel was Sade to see what happened to Raymond Parker but he is also getting better now . Nice to hear and see this video .
Thanks, I am very happy that Ray is improving so much and able to create content a real trooper as my late Dad would say and Chuck comes back for the New Year as well 👍
Incredible set of photos and video clips. The surprising part of the video is the swimming. Obviously flying with a heavy prey and wet feathers was not an option. I am sure attracting alligator was always a risk, so swimming makes sense. Thanks for sharing this good piece of natural history documentation.
Happy New Year my friend, my friend Bob was sick so unfortunately he missed out on this but this is apparently the 2nd Duck killing by an eagle in the last 4-5 days so we may see this again, who knows. The swimming part was not what I expected, maybe I should have called it the duck stroke vs the breat stroke 🙂
Quite the deal. 🎈🙏👍
Don't know if I'll ever see anything like this again but who knows, it was wonderful for everyone except the duck.
WOW! Great mate!
Thanks Terry, we try to keep things interesting if nature cooperates that is.
Outstanding capture. That's my present to you. If I were there with you, it would not have happened. Hahahaha. Good job. Happy New Year.
Lucked out but I did blow an opportunuty with an osprey but that's a tale for another day. 🙁
Amazing video and captures. In the first couple images, the ring neck to our right of the eagle seemed like he was thinking "Old Fred always a risk taker. I told him an eagle was flying around." Happy New Year.
When I looked at a few images quick I thought the duck I saw was it's mate but it was a loner and it fought hard but the eagle had to swim a few laps, it did hold the duck under the water for a bit so it was probably pretty worn out getting towed to the little island before being finished off.
Awesome footage
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing
You are welcome.
Jeff, pretty crazy. Congratulations on keeping your cool and capturing the shots as well as video! Also amazing seeing the Eagle basically swimming.... I have never seen or heard of that before. A fantastic way to end the year! Perhaps a sign of great things happening for the coming new year! Happy New Year, Greg
To be honest I was a bit jumpy seeing what was going on, didn't think I could go nack and forth between stills and video with my adrenaline pumping, didn't really know what I had until I got home, was still pumped so did a video. Now I can crash.
what an opportunity you had....I have never been able to capture this type of action before..congrats! I do see eagles bring ducks to an eagle live stream nest I follow
Never thought I would see an eagle swim, don't know if the duck was too heavy when waterlogged or the effort wore out the eagle, expected him to bring it to the nest to share with the mate but that never happenned.
Nice , happy new year Jeff
You too Luke, enjoy the new year. - Jeff
Puts a new meaning to Watch the Birdie ...🦘
I had to turn so quick to get a capture I will be honest I has to straighten out the image but in the end I'm OK with that.
Wow, what a catch!! Well done Jeff ! And Happy New Year !
And I thought it was going to be a wasted day..........Aw Shucks!
Jeff, great photos and thank you for taking us along in your photographic journey. I am already looking forward to hear about future additions your camera collection and the to seeing the photos yet to be taken.
Well there is always a new adventure down the road, I will share a few shot's I took with Mozman at Arlie Gardens on Saturday night. Got the cheap camera (Topcon Auto 100) to use with my lenses I talked about last show, Ugh! I got it working but it needs new mirror foam (no big deal) but the old discintegrated mirror foam is on the top side of the Focusing screen and the inside of the viewfinder (can't see well), know how to clean it up the rest of the way but can't figure out how to safely remove the metal disk on top of the rewind crank, it is glued down and if I pry it off to take the top of the camera off I can't replace it. So I either send it out for someone else to do who has spare parts or I try to find the part itself (not likely). Need time to think on this one. Have a Happy New Year.
Congratulations on 75th episodes. We all will missed our weekly engagements with you. Hopefully the community will continue participating in the monthly photo review so that we all continue enjoy you opinions and wisdom.
Always love your videos Jeff. It was a great year with another one ahead of us.
Thanks, hope you got some eagle shots on your last DAM adventure. Happy New Year to You. - Jeff
@ Thanks Jeff. Eagles and Gators all the way !
@@JRodPhotoArt Absolutely!!!
Thanks Jeff for sharing your perspective on the various genre of photography and also sharing some of the invaluable pictures from earlier days. Always loved your narration. felt very calm and serene.
Thank you my friend, hope to have some time to create video content more often on my channel, we shall see. Need to work on a camera I just got that needs a severe cleaning inside, not sure if I'll send it out or tackle it myself, Need to find more specialized tools for camera repair. Hope you stop by next week for the photo review. - Jeff
Great job Jeff. If you never did another UA-cam stream, know you are loved and valued as a photographer, friend and human being. Cheers pal! -Jim
Thanks Jim, appreciate the kind words and thanks for your contribution to the photo review and your thoughtfullness towards me during my tenure on the show, hope you still stay active with the Photo Review this coming year. Happy New Year to you and your family. - Jeff
This last year (for me...) was an excellent time sharing with great photography lovers from allover the world! Thank you Jeff and will see you again once a month with your photo review!
Thank you Terry nice to have some friends down under, my much older cousin lived in Australia and New Zealand for a while before moving back to the states, never got to ask him about his experiences but he doesn't live close and we never got close due to the age difference but I know he enjoyed the experience. See you in 2025, have a Happy New year!
Hi Jeff, I didn't manage to join your 75th show but I'm watching it now and will continue tomorrow. Many thanks for the efford you made to keep the comunity together. I'll see you next week for the photo review Take care and have an healthy 2025
Happy New Year to you as well and thanks so much for sharing your photographic journeys and images with the rest of us, greatly appreciated. - Jeff
just sold my entire 25yr archive to Adobe to train their AI image models, Sony will have AI in their cameras in 2026 that will mimic any camera, film and even edit before it hist the memory card. amazing times ahead
Well at some point technology will take the fun out of photography, some will say it allows us to focus on composition and creativity I thinks thats a nice thing to say rather than showing that we are getting lazy. We have had great compositions and creativity for decades with lesser equipment, I hope we dont lose focus on our roots. Working in Electronics my whole career I am aware that technology will never slow down no matter what people think, we will always strive to push the bounderiers of technologies it's in our DNA. Have a Happy New Year and we shall see what surprises camera companies have for us in 2025.
Great video - but how did you get my 100th anniversary book ?? 🦘
You better look around and make sure you still have your book (Ha, Ha). Happy New Year my friend.
Awesome 🎉. This is not good bye. Its ill see you later ✌🏾
Thank you sir, appreciate it.
Jeff, thanks for all the work you put in the show. Also thanks to all the panel members and the chat. This community is great. The knowledge, the will to help, the respect and the friendliness really is second to none. I have followed and enjoyed countless conversations, even if I disagreed. When we visited South Carolina, we saw, that it is not just a facade, but instead you're a genuinely great person to be around. We had a lot of fun! Having said that, I am not sad, but rather look forward, to see ya'll at Chuck's channel. Jeff, just catch your breath, replenish your energy and we'll see you around. Oh... I'm still trying to select worthwhile photos for next week.
Thanks Martin, I really had a good time meeting you and your wife in SC, I luv meeting folks who frequent the show. As you say the community is great and we try to have a good time and respect the work of all of the folks that enjoy getting out with their cameras. Take care and see you next year, have a Happy New Year!
Very nice end to your story, aka show. You've did a great job keeping it informative and family oriented, unlike some in the youtube world that like clickbate and controversy. Thanks again for volunteering your time. Hopefully, this message won't be deleted like the last one. Enjoy your time off. I'll see you out there. Your friend Bob.
Thanks for the kind words and for participating in the Photo reviews every month, just noticed as you say the last comment was deleted (weird).
I have truly enjoyed Your saturday night show, and Your making it interesting (with much diligence) as well as the great Panel of Guests!!!!! (Oh by the way I have been one of the 517 since You started)... I fear (with great sadness) that the new show will be back to the rant fest (although subdued by ...) saturday nights, I hope will be of some semblance of the enjoyable chat fest (even though You often spoke over the guests) that Your show Was... Thanks for sharing Your early family photos (even if embarrassing You were a cute kid) as well as Your early photos (fun stuff and an eye of Your younger self) (OH)Let Us remember that 1930's cameras could not take advantage of a 500th sec shutter when the film speed was maybe 50asa n the lenses often were no faster than f3.5 (film sensitivity/speed may vary, from whom it is derived as ASA was not yet used in the 30's)...... You know who n how, I am :) :) :)
Ha Ha funny yeah lets confuse folks by saying ASA instead of ISO and we had some cameras that used Exposure values as well and Lightmeters that used Weston values if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching and I hope for the best with AP Studios and also hope we continue to have participation in the Photo review. Have a Happy New Year!
Hi Jeff , I missed the live show but watching now . I would just like to say thankyou so much for putting in the time to do these live streams and keeping the community together for Chuck. I'm sure everyone is greatful for your huge contribution. Thanks again Jeff and all the best for the New Year my friend. 👍❤️
Thanks a lot, everyone is great in this gathering of photographers and it has been a pleasure, thanks for watching appreciate it. - Jeff
