LumenPnP v3.1 - Full Job
Переглядів 6 тис.6 місяців тому
opulo.io First, the machine performs a fiducial check. The top camera makes quick backlash-compensation movements to get incredibly precise positioning on the panel's fiducials. Then, the LumenPnP feeders feed parts, and the dual-nozzle head picks them. The machine then performs bottom vision calibration to get a rotational and translational offset, then takes that into consideration when placi...

    These are awesome, so nice especially if standard assembly services don’t have the parts you want

    Could you please develop on which tool/method you personally recommend to use for the solder paste deposition right before that PNP operation ? Do you do it with common solder paste through a stencil with something like a solder paste printer (If so, do I need to first apply the solder paste, heat it, then cool it, so that each footprint have solid solder on them, then position the SMD component with the PNP, then reheat to bind the solder to the components ? Or can I PNP on the solder paste directly ?)

    • @opulo
      @opulo 4 дні тому

      First, solder paste is squeegeed on the board with a stencil. Then it's mounted on the LumenPnP and all the parts are populated into the paste. Lastly, the board is put in a reflow oven where the paste heats up and solidifies, connecting the parts to the board. We have a blog post about the equipment we recommend for the process!: www.opulo.io/blogs/articles/setting-up-a-mid-scale-smt-line

    Impressive! I remember people saying on the discord that 0402 was difficult with the stock nozzle. Has there been some changes hardware/software wise that have enabled this to be more reliable? 0402 is essential for my use case 😅

    • @opulo

      Yes, we're always making lots of firmware, configuration, and hardware changes! The v1.0.3 release of the feeder firmware in particular was a tremendous improvement.

    I stick to 0603 as the minimum size (if forced past 0805) but great too see the LumenPNP can snatch up those evil little grains of 0402 dust.

    FAQ - What's that shaking at the beginning of the job? The LumenPnP is performing a fiducial calibration. It makes quick movements to scan for fiducials, moving a bit extra to perform backlash compensation to keep positioning super accurate. This quick movement is just jostling the spool and table a bit, but is normal and to be expected. A sturdy table is ideal, but not necessary for speedy and accurate placement. - Why doesn't the machine move while the feeders are feeding parts? This is due to a limitation in how OpenPnP is structured. Opulo and the LumenPnP community are working on an update that allows for feeding while moving, reducing job time even more. - How fast can it go? This depends greatly on your job, feeder configuration, and bottom vision settings. We at Opulo have tuned a job up to 1300 chips per hour (CPH) with room for more if bottom vision is disabled, but for most jobs and configurations you can expect between 500-1000 CPH. Check out the brochure on the product page for more details: www.opulo.io/products/lumenpnp

    Are we releasing any new videos of the latest version of this placer? A lack of uploads signals trouble but hopefully you’re just busy. Have been holding out for the linear rails but would really like to see a comparison to the previous version - even if it’s a scriptless side-by-side.

    I would probably modify the KiCad files to not export things to the pos and bom files that isn't supposed to be there. Also doesn't OpenPnP support putting back the picked parts into the tape instead of discarding them? (Seems to recall seeing that somewhere)
