    Thanks for breaking this down! You make therapy seem like a fun and hopeful career. I have interviewed a bunch of therapists and they make it seem like a hard and self-sacrificing career. Which I’m sure it is but it’s been kind of discouraging for someone interested in the field!

    I wish more people who are not fit would start with OLY/weightlifting/powerlifting instead of cardio... it gives you a better feel and its easier to start instead if running for example. And its so addictive once you realize how much stronger you get, especially in the beginning when the gains are bigger... Hope you will have fun with it in the years to come! Cheers!

    Am I the only one who thinks $52K is a good salary for only seeing 15 clients a week? I'm assuming that the clients are only coming 1x per week. If you see 30 clients, you can double that salary. IMO, 30 clients per week would be doable. Am I just deluding myself to make me feel better about the student loans that I'm about to have to pay back? 😬 I will edit to add that I'm from a southern state and that PLPC's usually charge less than what is listed here, but the cost of living is lower than CA.

    I’m having a bad mixed race day, so came across your channel. Very helpful. I’m not acquainted with the literature, but it seems like you’re a pioneer of authentic mixed race research, not mixed race through a homogenous lens, or even binocular lens - which as you imply is still a form of mono-ethic colonization.

    If you’re mixed race then don’t live in Asian countries, especially China. The discrimination and micro aggressions over there are unbearable. What hurts most is seeing white people and black people in asian countries being treated quite well (despite their complaints), but I get treated like an actual criminal; guilty until proven innocent, but never accepted. I have also experienced on multiple occasions complete strangers come up to me in the street and tell me I’m ugly. White people don’t believe when I tell them. What also hurts is westerners not accepting me abroad because they consider me local, and even though they profess to be more open minded, reality proves otherwise. Like a stray dog wandering from group to group. There is also a lot of strangers smirking ridiculing etc. for absolutely no reason. But again I have watched how they treat monoethnic people completely different. By contrast, I do get some women who are very interested, but I daren’t take them outside lest the date is quickly ruined by discrimination from strangers imposing themselves into my private affairs. It’s like the Truman Show but nobody believes you. My own theory is that people subconsciously choose who to trust based on how similar they look to themselves, like animals skeptical of other species. If you judge people by their actions not their words, it seems that racism is the rule, not the exception to it. It took me until middle age to work this out, since I was never racist myself. Despite everything I would rather be enlightened than live in the perpetual child like ignorance and security of mono-ethnic cultishness.

      If you do a quick google search "hotline volunteer" I think you'll be able to find some places. In San Francisco, there's this one: www.sfsuicide.org/volunteering/ And a national one that's similar (they have different hotlines per state) : 988lifeline.org/crisis-centers-by-state-and-u-s-territory/

      @techtotherapy Місяць тому

      Hii!! I'm not familiar with Saybrooks University so I can't say much about that, but I will advise you to reach out to their admissions team to be certain that the courses you would take meet the requirements for the licensure you're trying to get. (Something like "do the courses at xxx University meet the educational requirements for xxx licensure in xxx state") My school wasn't CACREP accredited but all the courses meet the requirements for my license so it worked out for me!

    • @rand_-mk5lb
      @rand_-mk5lb Місяць тому

      @@arturof9875There are many states that won't even license you unless your school was CACREP. And soon they're going to be more stringent on the CACREP requirements, asking that students attend a CACREP institution to be licensed in general.

    thank you for sharing your experiences!it was similar to how I prepared for my Masters in General Psychology degree I just finished. I was confused for a second and thought you did a masters in psychology, but it looks like you did a masters in counseling (which is the next degree im going for)! I'd recommended distinguishing clearer between the two because as I found out/realized the hard way, a master's in psych really only gets you ready for a Phd/psyd. if you want licensure as a LPCC, LMHC, LMFT etc. you actually need to study *counseling* at an accreddited school. the course work for a masters in psychology can also wildly differ from counseling.

    • @techtotherapy
      @techtotherapy 2 місяці тому

      Wow thanks for commenting and making that distinction clear! I had no idea there was such a big difference between the two! I've considered moving from tech (product management) into more of a counseling role. But tbh, I don't want to go back to school and usually therapists don't make too much money. I love helping people, but live in California. How did you work through these financial concerns?

    • @techtotherapy

      The financial concern is very real during this transition, I'm definitely feeling it right now, but I'm still very happy with my career transition. I think when I was deciding if I should make this move I weighed having a career that is more meaningful more than a career that made "easier" money. Not that being a PM is easy, but there's just a lot more money being funneled into the tech industry. Again this is just from my experience and perspective so I would be curious where you're heads at right now.
