Yes I believe as long as you're under the licence of another therapist, you're able to work in private practice as an associate!

I mostly worked in startups in San Francisco. I was on the data, product, software engineering and operations teams. I tried a lot of different roles to see which one I liked the most😅

Thanks for your question! I'm not sharing which school I went to on this channel (for personal reasons, hope you understand!) But I'm happy to hear we have similar career changes! Thanks for your question! Hmm I actually don't know of anyone close to me that is going that route, but I believe there were a couple people in my cohort that did that! The good thing if you go this route is you won't have to worry about finding clients, there will probably be plenty of people needing care

Huh..... hmmm if I were to take a wild guess, I think the medical field would be harder mentally for me because I'm guessing there wouldn't be as much support as I do right now as a therapist (my supervisor supports me in a way I can't image a non-therapist would be able to) But this is all a guess, I have no idea!! haha

Thanks for sharing -- yes I also had a similar experience :(( it's really unfortunate because I think these jobs could be so fun if it was set up in a different way. For example, I enjoyed parts of the job, but it's the people and the expectations that really got to me at the end

you can, especially mid-career with 10 years of experience. I used to design and manage websites for a few psychologists.

@@techtotherapy that's what I thought too. I'm big on finding and providing resources to people. I used to volunteer as a PR coordinator for an organization and a lot of it was communicating available resources and strategies to people.

oh yes! especially if you go into more of a social worker type role, that will be SUPER helpful!

You should try and do some internships to see if you like it or not. Personally, I love tech and working as a software engineer, but it is definitely not for everyone

It has a list of California schools with LMFT programs. I briefly looked at this when I was looking at schools. If you do a quick google search "hotline volunteer" I think you'll be able to find some places. There's lots of different types to support different groups of people so it'll be up to you to decide what most interests you. In San Francisco, there's this one: www.sfsuicide.org/volunteering/ And a national one that's similar (they have different hotlines per state) : 988lifeline.org/crisis-centers-by-state-and-u-s-territory/

@@techtotherapy oh okay ! I understand by any chance do you have any insight or thoughts on saybrooks university’s masters in counseling program ? How important do you think it is if a program is CACREP accredited

Hii!! I'm not familiar with Saybrooks University so I can't say much about that, but I will advise you to reach out to their admissions team to be certain that the courses you would take meet the requirements for the licensure you're trying to get. (Something like "do the courses at xxx University meet the educational requirements for xxx licensure in xxx state") My school wasn't CACREP accredited but all the courses meet the requirements for my license so it worked out for me!

​@@arturof9875There are many states that won't even license you unless your school was CACREP. And soon they're going to be more stringent on the CACREP requirements, asking that students attend a CACREP institution to be licensed in general.

I got a degree in counseling psychology so I thought they were pretty similar 😅😅 And oh nooo, it sounds like you're on your way to get two masters degrees now? Wow you'll be so prepared once you start seeing clients then!

@@techtotherapy yes. it wasn't my intention but I ultimately want to see clients (but not do research or become a licensed psychologist). I feel like my psychology background will help me when i see clients but I'm not entirely sure how!

Thanks for commenting~~ Yeah I just shared my experience in tech, but I've also heard of some people who are able to find jobs that they really enjoy! Especially the people that find jobs that are in nonprofit and tech, that seems to be an interesting sector too if you're looking for a more fulfilling job that maybe is still more businesslike than psychology

Aww thank you for commenting!! Ohmygoodness we have so many similarities! I'm so curious how this transition is different or similar in Germany! The clinic that I work at right now focuses on gestalt therapy which I've heard is much more popular in Germany than in the US. So I'm feeling extra excited that you reached out haha anyways thanks for watching my videos!

The financial concern is very real during this transition, I'm definitely feeling it right now, but I'm still very happy with my career transition. I think when I was deciding if I should make this move I weighed having a career that is more meaningful more than a career that made "easier" money. Not that being a PM is easy, but there's just a lot more money being funneled into the tech industry. Again this is just from my experience and perspective so I would be curious where you're heads at right now.

@@techtotherapy similar position. My immediate need is to find a job, but longer term I'm exploring career options I might find fulfilling and also will pay a comparable salary. There's got to be something out there like that
