Problems with Macau's LRT Situation
In this episode, we want to explore the transit situation in Macau.
Located in the Pearl River Delta, Macau is known as the Las Vegas of Asia. It's got investments, tourists, a very high population density, but somehow it does not have a state-of-the-art transit system. Well not anymore, in Dec 2019, the first of many LRT lines finally opened and things have worked quite well since. You know, nothing major in the world has happened in 2020, everything's gone exactly to plan...
We want to take a look a bit of context to Macau's situation and what led to the development of LRT in the first place, what the plan is, and what obstacles there are moving forward.
Did Macau miss an opportunity to make a better transit system? Or have they actually done it right? Will they ever be able to execute the plan because of the lock downs? Tell us more in the comments!

How Toronto's SRT Line 3 was Ruined
Переглядів 19 тис.3 роки тому
In this episode, we want to explore what is going on with Toronto's Line 3. Located in Scarborough, Line 3 was once meant to be a state-of-the-art system that was better than any other streetcar or light rail system. But a few decades later, the pilot showcase system in Scarborough has somehow evolved into something that no amount of money can fix. We will go through a bit of history for the Sc...
Colossal Failure of Alstom and Ottawa's LRT

Hi Everyone! This is our new UA-cam channel looking to showcase transit related topics from around the world. If you have a topic you want us to make a video of, please let us know in the comments. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Ottawa's Confederation Line LRT has been plagued by problems since it opened in September of 2019. Although the City of O...
They should have built a "light metro" like the Vancouver skytrain or Montreal REM... Why build an LRT designed for level crossings and street running on a system that has neither of those elements 🤦🏼
We’re now in 2024 and I can report that we got one more station operational and the LRT is now linked with the Macau peninsula 🎉
Imagine that! Our so called Garbage on line 3 is Detroit's new found treasure. Shame on the Ford Government. That line has always worked well for us & now we're lost without it. Of course it would get run down because nothing was really done to keep it running, only a patch up here & there. The SRT was already going to the Scarborough town center & took us straight to Kennedy station and a hop onto the train downtown Toronto. Tory visited Scarborough at the start of the talk to bring the train to Scarborough & he was full of the joys that the new train will now be able to go straight to the Scarborough town center. Idiot! We were already able to go straight to the Scarborough town center . With this new project it cuts out the buisness area on Kennedy Rd. What a waste of money, now they're putting in three stops to take all the traffick into the town center & then everyone will have to make their way out again to get home. Where's with the SRT we were able to get off at Kennedy, Lawrence , Ellesmere , Midland , Scarborough town center mall, & McCowan. It's now costing more to build a line down McCowan when they could've brought new trains & revamp the tracks. But that would've been too smart a move to make & the buisness men out there wouldn't have been able to cash in. Funny how it's good enough for Detroit now. Shame on them. It's costing the TTC more money to run new buses which heads out four at a time ( in a row) with the most sitting on the bus to be 3 or 4 people on it. Sometimes 7 people heading to Kennedy station. If you don't believe me somebody should visit the Scarborough town center & see for themselves. It's an expensive big joke.
We have innova ART 300 too in kuala lumpur lrt.
Looking at this video with the RT shutdown ahead of schedule. Man I wanted to ride the RT and make a vid onboard before the expected shutdown date.
At least the manila LRT didn't end up as this
RIP SRT 1985-2023 if you guys don’t know the TTC line 3 has been derailed when it was leaving Ellesmere Station
UPDATE: o-train has been out of service for 3 days now cuz of don’t goofy bearings on the axles of some LRT trains.
Where's the bus? It's being destroyed in the scapyard! They need the money from the scrap metal to pay for the deficit OC Transpo is running up! ua-cam.com/video/YY9To39qMAE/v-deo.html
SRT has so much potential and it has been wasted. The fact that fat neck rob ford cancelled the expansion of transit city. Toronto has a problem with politicians who don’t know shit trying to be urban planners when they’re not 🤬. Then they want to cancel everything… and cry about it later.. well we’re the ones who feel it. They make Scarborough a part of the city of Toronto, they take the tax money from us and give us substandard transit. If Scarborough was it’s own city they’d have a much better rapid transit network.
What if the connect line 2 to make it like line3?? Ttc made a map and i saw line 2 connecting to Scarborough center and not sure if it was real
Vancouver's Skytrain operates with the same technology and has no major issues. The Expo Line was extended south of the Fraser River in Surrey. It was subsequently expanded across the New Westminster, Coquitlam and Burnaby back east to Broadway and Clarke. The line was then extended with the Evergreen Line through Port Moody and Coquitlam. Same tech without chain smoking operators with the Amalgamated Transit Union. Another mess courtesy of Rob Ford.
One of the problems too with the SRT is winter, for some reason with maintenance, exposed tracks for the SRT would be thickly frozen. Doesn’t help that winter in Toronto is harsher than Vancouver. Videos compared to both systems would be snow would bulging through doors in Vancouver but the whole system for Toronto would be unusable.
Nice video!
yesterday one of the overhead wires failed :D
please make more videos!

Does Not Look like a Eyesore looks Impressing with One Million Dollars Each Train Cars built in Canada by UTC
Why they just can't order special model for SRT which has same dimention as SRT 100 but fitted with recent technologies? Of course it will cost more, but much less than building a new line.
The line should have been retrofitted into the Eglinton LRT line. There was no reason, other than political for the SRT to be completely scrapped in favour of the subway extension
No heating in winter in Ottawa. Wow
Is it possible to convert the SRT into a dedicated BRT for the time being, like how Miway does it? You already got the line and some infrastructure, how hard is it to make a flush concrete and pour it over the rails?
A busway will only work until Ellesmere. The buses are too big to fit inside the train tunnel which after the tunnel towards Midland becomes an elevated guideway.
If they are making an new line 3 then why don’t they make it go to the other side of Scarborough like the line 2
I've sold train to ogdenville and North HavenBrook ! , reminds me of the Simpson's monorail fiasco ! Someone is laughing all the way to the bank ! And it's not anyone who rides an LRT.
It's more than Etobicoke ever got.
re ekبق قمقوق ق
Wait but why did they make it if they were going to destroy it
Is your name by any chance Jerome?
One idea I had was to buy cars similar to what Chicago is buying for the El. They may need a different signalling system, but this could be installed with minimal disruption to the current service. However, they might have to wait for all the new trains to come before they get rid of the current fleet. The line would use the same rails and stations though.
The garment hate us I ain't takein buses for 7 years
I just took the Line 3(SRT) today and it was an unpleasant ride. The train is noisy af and sounds & feels like a heavy metal machine. I would prefer taking a bus instead of line 3.
I am sad to see the SRT go especially in Scarborough we need to protest and stop
I am devastated to see the SRT go. So many people depend on it.
years later a new Line 3 would be built (Ontario Line)
It got a Renovation in 2015, now there removing it-
Toronto's public transit system is already a bad posse as it is, with its many ill-thought projects, and constant interference from people who are using public transit as a leverage to play politics. Why not convert SRT into a conventional light rail, as an extension to Line 5? Both terminate at Kennedy. Furthermore, on the other end, why is Line 5 supposed to reach as far as Mount Dennis only? I'm not a Toronto resident, but leaving a major Airport without a public transit connection seems to be a big squandered opportunity.
I would just put the Mark 2s and 3s on no problem just make them less cars so they fit
And also all stations not design according to Canadian weather
Two or even more different sets of trains/trams for public transport are not uncommon in any given city with a track based system. In Europe you will find that quite often. What is rare is using Diesel powered trains for inner city public transport.
It has the same trains as our Mk1 SkyTrain’s in Vancouver which means the SRT tracks could fit our Mk3 cars. I really think that they should order those instead of just fully taking the line out of service
Scarborough has never been a "small suburb". It's always been a massive wasteland if concrete, brutalism and cul-de-sacs. It's why people still affectionally refer to it as Scarberia.
The O train is definitely the way to go. I love that it takes me 6 mins to get to Rideau from Tunney's Pasture. Let's hope the system can progress without further troubles. This is the way to go for transportation in this city.
From the current state, the LRT is a white elephant. It doesn’t serve resident of Macau as most station are located only at casinos, airports and the border checkpoints and 80% of the residents live in the Macau peninsula. Few people are going to transfer to the LRT when there is a direct bus and the bridge crossing is still under construction! A remember the press saying the LRT feels like a shuttle between casinos. The casinos incentive is to transport you directly to its casino and gamble so obviously they would do it for free and hope you bypass the LRT all together. Few tourist will take it because if you go to Macau to gamble, you would take the free shuttle buses or site see where the LRT doesn’t connect to the cities attractions. Resident aren’t going to take it because it doesn’t take them to a there destination.
The "TAX PAYERS" located in Vaughn contribute $0 to Toronto...yet they have a TTC subway running right into Vaughn, while Scarborough has the rickety SRT that so outdated that it has to shut down YEARS before its replacement is built. Thank you to the late mayor Rob Ford and the City of Toronto politicians for cancelling our LRT transit system that was supposed to service us right into Malvern.
The Scarborough SRT was a novelty from day-one. A short-line which in reality served a very limited purpose. No doubt some left-wing politicians getting their way back-in-the-day. The TTC subway system has not evolved well into the 21st century. By 2021 it should have branched into Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and Brampton. Mass transit in the GTA is an after-thought for the radical left and the 'Sorry-Tory' gov'ts. The current Scarborough SRT needs NO extension, get rid of it and connect the existing TTC to regional GO Train.
The Trillium Line has another issue-it was built on a previously unused single track line. The single line runs under Dow's Lake next to Carleton University so the Carleton Station has a double track...that's the only place where the northbound and southbound trains can pass each other. A delay going one way means a delay going both ways
You're complely wrong. The line is double tracked most of the way from Bowesville all the way to greenboro, trains can pass at Carleton and between corso italia and Bayview. Its not perfect but the majority of the line is double tracked.
Vancouver's Skytrain uses exactly the same technology and yet has evolved into one of the largest light rail systems in North America. The "failure" of the SRT was purely a political one. Although the SRT was designed to be driverless... as it always has been in Vancouver... the concept was met with resistance from the transit union which effectively prevented the Ontario developed technology from being showcased in it's home province.
It always looks like the Ontario government hates Toronto! Getting around Scarborough by bus is a slow process.
nice, though i would have liked mention of the Stouffville GO line.
I only have one question, what will TTC do with the UTDC ICTS Mark 1's? Will they scrap it? or will they keep it running for the new line for the future.
Probably scrap unless 1-2 cars are preserved; most likely by HCRR. However, they probably won't; they didn't get any Hawker subway cars.
Time for an update.
