Yet such intellectual engineering brilliance was wholly undermined by the ignorance, hypocrisy and sheer bigotry of the gutter dwelling Tory Government of 2010 - 2024. They should NEVER be trusted with such political high office again, NEVER. The Tory shysters destroyed Britain’s prosperity for decades with their Tory corrupt criminality, yet their biggest instigating buffoon, Johnson, remains free to walk our streets as a free man - he and his Tory mobsters need to be criminally prosecuted and removed from civil society for decades.

BUT since it was less than quarter the age of the building is it really imperative? A good exercise though to keep the skills known for modern generations. And that is really more important. As for Russian assistance,, this is not political [or at least much] so their assistance and expertise should be welcomed.

Since that date wasn't met and the completion date was pushed back to December 2024, maybe there was/is a problem with the clock replacement?

    • @fidelio3841

On december 2024, Notre Dame will reopen to the public and will be fully available for religious ceremonies, this was the target and the only target. So, this doesn't mean that "restoration" is achieved, in fact, "restoration" will keep on for several years. Long before the fire, Notre Dame was in fact already engaged in a long time restoration program, but theses restorations were not an obstacle to public access, and religious use. On december 2024, the new clock will not be set, because this was not the priority. Rebuilding the clock doesn't mean "locking the monument", so this can be done later, after reopening. In fact I am unable to find accurate informations regarding this clock. There is a private association who officially embraced this restoration project, but there is not the slightest information emerging from official decision-malkers. In fact french media are mainly obsessed by spire, organum, there is nearly ''0" media speaking about the clock, and I regret that, but I guess that after reopening, the french media will start to get interest in this clock.
