Honestly, this Muffet fight gave me a lot of food for thought (long text ahead, sorry). Some people are having discussions on the comments about morality and if you have the right to act in self defense if you can't die, but I feel like they're taking it in a very generalized level. Notice how Muffet (and specifically this fight from TS, not the one from UT) is the ONLY one causing this resentment. Usually this kind of discussing doesn't even happen in regards to Undertale, which is also weird on itself given how violence against enemies who are trying to kill you feels natural in other games. It can't just be the whole time traveller argument. There's something in the Undertale formula that makes being a pacifist feel easy and rewarding, and it isn't present in this fight. And there is a formula. Frisk has barely any characterization or feelings, so you can't get attached to the one being attacked. The monsters feel silly and humanized, so you don't get threatened. The battle themes are such a vibe and don't give the fighting for your life feel. And all of that changes when you're confronting Flowey or Asriel, causing dread and anger on the player like a switch, which indicates Toby knew what he was doing. The same happens in this game, all of the characters feel friendly and when the tension does rise up, the enemy is someone you care about (Asgore). But in this fight, Muffet feels malicious and sadistic, which makes you feel threatened, the fact Muffet is trying to bake an actual person is given much more weight, Chara has personality and feels like an actual child with feelings, the skelebros literally react to you dying and there isn't any lesson about "giving mercy gets you mercy in return" cause Muffet does NOT actually spare you. If you're someone who gets easily emotionally invested in games, this is just gonna feel wrong, specially with Sans straight up shaming you and acting like you dying is no bug deal. It really feels like they did this in purpose. I wonder why.

People are so stupid in this comment section… This Sans has a moral Compass like Batman because of PAPYRUS… this Universe seems to show that Papyrus has more of a good way of influencing his morals on Sans so Sans values “life” as much as Bruce Wayne as Batman BECAUSE of Papyrus being able to show Sans that people can change… Sans here is like Bruce Wayne… he doesn’t believe in KILLING in self Defense… He believes in Incapacitation and defeating without killing only because he here believes that even the worst people can change like Papyrus and Batman/Bruce Wayne… that’s why he even GIVES you a chance… but.. he is not FULLY like them… if you are being Chaotic evil and killing everyone that’s when he’s gonna kill you but still regret it. He won’t kill you on the Pacifist route at all… but for Sans/Crossbones unlike Bruce/Batman if he were in those shoes he would probably kill Joker as Batman sooooo yeah that’s the difference but he values life that hasn’t gone “far off” as it seems.

Fought Muffet, she killed me at least 3 times. I give up, attack her and Sans is like "wow we really doing murder now?"

I think people forget Superheroes usually don't kill their villains or enemies. Which perfectly fits into Crossbones' character and how even if it's a bit hypocritical, heroes do have to save everyone. Even if they're the villains. It's not an action of "logic". It's an action of one's belief. And that is Crossbones' character. Although same can't be said for Sans

hmmm i dont know, this level of dialogue needs some rework. Sans's logic doesnt make sense here, Muffet *did* tried to kill us, Self Defense is everything important at this point, even if it costs their own death

I get why sans doesnt want you to fight, but for muffet it doesn't make any sense. She literally tries to kill you, an innocent child, and then she has the audacity to call you a bad person for fighting back!

Makes sense sans isn’t gonna let you kill someone in front of him and his brother. He knows you’re a time traveller and he knows that you can beat muffet without killing, especially since humans are canonically wayyy stronger then monsters

if you try to kill koffin K without trying to kill muffet, the dialogue will be a lil different. Crossbones says "What was that" but not in charachter(the voice is sans' not crossbones') Koffin would comically say "what was what" and it's the same after that

I swear the way crossbones teleports into the battle with that giant "MISS" plastered over the screen makes it feel like I'm watching an analog horror and some kinda monster will jump out at me😭

late comment, but there's some dialogue you missed *muffet:* if this is done on neutral or late evacuation (started in starlight isles), sans and papyrus will know you're a threat to muffet and see if you can change. if you don't, you're left alone in the room with sans. he goes dark in the eyes and says "get out of here", you're teleported outside and can't interact with muffet any further *harry and larry:* if you attack and defeat them, they'll be knocked unconscious and the fight will end in koffin's room rather than outdoors. when one falls, the other will attempt to avenge them unless you turned them against one another beforehand, in which they'll start laughing *koffin-k:* actually a really in-depth fight when it comes to endings. i believe your result was from having attacked muffet before. if you're on true compassion and attack koffin, sans will ask what exactly that was supposed to be, then drop the question and proceed normally. i'm not sure of the nature behind this, but i did a max exp non-evacuation neutral run and *didn't* betray koffin, attacked upfront. he actually realized that i was trying to kill him and was in shock. sans put him away and had a speech about how there were children on the crowl jewel watching the fight. koffin's character sheet changed to "status: protected" and ended with "that last look he gave me...". out of curiosity i got a game over in the crossbones fight as that's the only way to see him again (can't date sans on neutral), unfortunately they didn't account for that

People keep talking about muffet part. Ok, lets get this straight. Muffet deal is to kill human to: 1. keep the bakery up. 2. sell his soul to "somebody" (probably temmie, but it doesnt matter). First of all, monsters still need one last soul to break the barrier, dont forget about undertale canon. every monster in undertale attack you to send your soul to asgore (toriel in ts!us). they literally HAVE to kill you no matter what. There is no toriel to ask sans to watch over child. there is a damn asgore who's friends with papyrus (like toriel friends with sans), thats why, basically, PAPYRUS has to be the one who watch over the child and NOT let muffet kill him. Noone asked SANS to defend the child.So if muffet kills chara, *BOOM* happy ending for monsters and freedom. Anyway, as sans says, he just wanted to see how chara actually act when she is attacked. Its just like trying to kill froggit at the start of ruined home. Asgore saves froggit (btw if you attack froggit poorly he wont actually defend him, just say that human is scared by froggit,and as i seen, weakest attack deals ~10 damage, which was half of froggit hp. Strongest attack could literally one shot froggit) and sans saves muffet from literal death.

2:20 i tried to do the same thing with koffin-k to, but i did it after he turned his back and got a different dialouge, the detail in this game is incredible.
