Fly fishing for mullet in the surf - challenging, frustrating, but oh so sweet when it comes good! In a season beset with difficulties, mostly the terrible weather this summer, it was fantastic to end on a high note with the best session of the year!

Fishing off the coast of Lombok
Переглядів 2424 роки тому
A day of adventurous (and basic!) fishing off the south coast of Lombok, Indonesia, with Shore Thing Fishing Charters out of Kuta. Made Marjaya, the skipper, is a slightly mad, irrepressibly enthusiastic and happy character. Don't expect luxury - this is fishing as the Indonesian's do it...but it's a lot of fun (if a somewhat hairy ride in a sloppy sea!).

A montage of the last few years' annual two-day trip to chase down the UK's only wild population of Rainbow Trout on the stunning Derbyshire Wye. Fishing as guests of the wonderful Cressbrook & Litton Fly Fishers Club, we have been privileged to experience this extraordinarily diverse river, mostly in the magical Mayfly season. The river ranges from classic, crystal-clear English chalk-stream, ...

Having received expert tuition, the mission was clear; catch our first ever Thicklipped Grey Mullet on the fly...and for one of us at least, there was success!
Cayo Romano Bonefish
Переглядів 21114 років тому
Cayo Romano lies to the east of Cayo Coco and offers ample opportinities for the holidaying flyfisherman to target plentiful bonefish with the help of local guides. This trip was windy, overcast and tricky....but hugely enjoyable and fulfilled an angling ambition....my first bonefish!
Cuban Bonefish on Cayo Romano

A brief taste of my first day's bonefishing on Cayo Romano, adjacent to Cayo Coco in Cuba, a superb DIY bonefishing location. Accompanied by Orlando Gonzalez, a well known guide in the region, I was given a blistering introduction to Albula Vulpes...the Bonefish! It was a day not blessed with the best conditions; windy and often overcast, but the fish were plentiful and aggressive, consuming my...
Not bad! I failed on Crete. I have all the flies on offer that many UK anglers use. They only followed a small white/yellow baitfish curiously, but no bite. And would you like to tell me what line you use? I also have a Helios 3D 6weigth.
Superb film Joe. Right next to Faro/ Algarve Airport too. Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation at Hayling Island Orvis SWFF beginners event on 8-9 June 2024.
Thanks David! Are you off to that part of Portugal soon?
Wait, with a clouser???
That looks like a good days catch and such big fish, impressive. Show some flies next time. Tackle rundown would be a bonus. Tight lines!
I'll certainly do that! :)
Loved this, thanks for sharing.
❤😊😊hello
hey! what fly did u use for mullets? congrats for the video
Brilliant 👏🏼
What type of fish did you catch?
Two species of mullet (Thick-lipped and Golden Grey), Atlantic Bass and Garfish. There were also Flat-head mullet and thin-lipped mullet in the system too.
welcome to Portugal, like 1
are they good to eat
No, especially not estuary fish...not a clean food chain! Catch and release 🙂
@@politevengeance . ok thanks for the reply , i thought as our local river Loughor has Sewin & a Salmon run that the Mullet may have been ok to eat
all good to support each others channel here cheers
What line are you using? Floating? Cheers
love mulleting, although I use bread. I believe they are one of the hardest fish to catch and one of the hardest fights available( in the uk) "don't they hang on" as matt hayes would say! thanks for the upload.
hi sir but i was interested in doing some mullet fishing in wales & i wanted to know where this is..im residing in wales tonypandy..is this any where close to where i live..
Hi, Happy bonefish angler I have been to Isla De La Juventud, last year. And i have just returned from a week at Isla Juventud and a week on the Georgiana. Next year i would like to see an other destination, maybe Cayo Romano. I see in your video you do a lot of wading for bones, very nice! Is that wat the fishing is like in Cayo Romano ? And do you see many other species there, like tarpon ? I allso hear it is one of the best places for Permit. If you could provide me with some more information, that would be great! How are the accomodations ? Grtz, Mike
Pretty much any estuary or harbour holds mullet - they are extremely prolific along our shores, even found along open rocky shores where kelp is washed up on shore, so you won't have any trouble finding them. The key is finding areas where they stop and feed (or are forced to stop by a barrier to the incoming tide). Look for small rivers running directly out into the sea or pools in between gravel banks. As it's tidal/coastal water, you don't need any licenses or permits.
Great video - i just yearn to go back soon after seeing this - Orlando is a great guide!!!
nice vid what kind of fly did you use
two types, fished on a dropper; on the point, a red marabou tailed bloodworm, and on the dropper, a red-headed diawl bach with a gold rib. Both seem to catch pretty consistently.
ive heard the red tags a mullet taker 2
Get a decent net
@@andypeutherer4218 - I had one then and have one now… but that day 12 years ago I forgot it… it happens!
what kind of flies are you using for the mullet
Good grief! We thought you'd fallen into a washing machine and been lost forever! :) Funnily enough, Steve and I were only talking about you last week when the subject of Sushi came up! Heard from Carl? Steve and I still want to get back over at some point. Joe
