Haiku EDC
United States
Приєднався 30 лип 2024
I have been practicing everyday carry (EDC) for almost 50 years, carrying items for both professional and personal reasons. I continue to use my 1979 Victorinox Huntsman, Rayovac flashlight, and other tools. I have traveled to every continent and led outdoor trips on many of them.
Haiku-EDC will focus on low and mid-budget items that are durable and practical over the years. Occasionally, I will review gear that is no longer available and discuss its usage.
The aim of this channel is to provide information about current EDC options with insights into past experiences. The channel may appear edited at times due to the removal of stuttering.

Improve My Micro Tool Kit Pouch #edcgear #toolkit
I bought the $69 one and it arrived in 3 days and I'll tell you what it was.
There is actually lots of uses for the key ring check out 100 sak hacks.
It actually acts as a charger as well, as in the IQ port can output power whilst charging the power bank itself. This has the benefit of not only charging your device but also top up the battery in the charger for on the go use. This is a premium feature anyway you look at it. The port can also charge up the power bank if you are afraid of plugging it straight into mains. Overall Anker offers better value and safety measures in their power banks. That does not mean other "no name" brands don't, they just tend to be irrelevant when it comes to warranty and consistency in their product line-up.
I did get that would use it for that but my 5KMah charger is a lot smaller and lighter.
You really need to learn how to pronounce words correctly. You sound 5
I just bought the $49.99 mystery box earlier today. Hopefully it’s something good.
Good luck Bro. Tell us what you get.
I clicked on this because Im unemployed and extremely bored
I get it. Hope things pick up for you.
Constructive criticism: It took you 4 minutes and 43 seconds before you even opened your bag. My suggestion, open it right away to keep viewer's interest. Second, you have the bag in the middle of the frame. But, when you show each tool, half of what you are showing is chopped off the bottom half of the frame. Put the bag aside and show the actual tool in the middle of the frame. Lastly, when showing the tools, do not wave them around so much. I might be interested in buying a tool you show. But, it is very hard to see the brand name/model number as they whiz across the screen.
You are very correct, my vids are way to long. This should have been 4 minutes top.
Save yourself the headache and just don't take one. TSA is full of retards that don't know their own regulations, they're going to take it either way and you're probably never going to get it back.
Nice tool bag. I had one about that size when I worked on aircraft. There's no way you will be carrying that EDC or in a bug out situation. You've lost your way.
Great video, new viewer and now subscribed 👌
Lately I've been carrying a Skeletool and its knife is usually adequate for me. I have carried by itself and used the knife although I have a lot of nice knives and I prefer to carry one in addition to the Skeletool because I have them and I like them, and my knife might be a fairly large one. Going out of my house I will sometimes carry a Leatherman Charge instead of the Skeletool, around my house the Skeletool is usually OK. I've seem people put the various notepads in their EDC. I do have the need to write down something occasionally but I wouldn't buy a dedicated notepad to carry and they don't hold up well in my pocket. I had an idea to carry a small postit pad in my pocket, maybe 1.5" x 2" because I wouldn't carry anything larger. I'm trying to determine a good way to carry something like this that wouldn't get too worn. I'm thinking of ways I could make a little sheath out of Kydex. I always carry reading glasses with me so no need for additional magnification. I do carry a small tape measure if I'm going with my wife shopping for things for the house. My normal absolute minimum carry is one or 2 ink pens, folding pocket knife, reading glasses, but usually I'll also have a small flashlight and the Skeletool.
I agree with a lot of your points. I do carry a Skeletool in my pocket by itself a lot. I find that my most common need is a knife, then screwdriver, the pliers last. I think the combination bit would be better as you said. However I think in a drawer or pack a larger took makes more sense because it will have more tools without the penalty of weight. I do occasionally carry around a Charge but I decided that around my house the smaller and lighter Skeletool was more efficient. I also have a Juice that is smaller than the Skeletool but not really any lighter. It also has scissors but smaller knife blade. If I'm going to use a knife the Skeletool is about the minimum knife I'm willing to use. I tend to prefer carrying the Skeletool even though I'm usually also carrying a separate folding knife. At least around my house if I need the additional tools that the Charge contains I have those tools fairly close by. Outside of my house I'll sometimes tend to carry the Charge more.
maybe add a medium sized s-biner or a gear tie from nite-ize
@@rjv2241 great idea.
nice lil kit there!
I love it!
Practical and well designed EDC. Thanks for the video.
Great comparison and analysis! Great job giving examples for other uses of the tools!
Whats EDC mean?
I found the meaning. You made me go through my big out bag and update a few things.
It means "every day Carry"
@davidpaul7707 thank you😁
What’s your take on the Knippex Cobra? It’s very popular, but I’m undecided.
The 4 inch pliers are good but over priced. Get something like the Crescent 9or Channellock) 4.5 inch tongue and groove. It does 98% of the Knipex at 1/3 the price. The Knipex 5 inch is (IMO) 50% better because it allows for greater torx and reach. When changing out a 3 inch hose clip, the extra reach and torx makes a difference in your hands. For a round the home the 7 inch Knipex is very handy.
Just stumbled upon your channel and subbed.👍 Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
I'd say you did pretty well in the description and uses. They basically decided to produce a model that of Multitool that people have been Moding Leatherman's and the like into for a long time now. I think is is a decent tool for what it is. People like to expect a lot for a little and judge things unfairly. It's a cheap beater tool that you don't care if you destroy because it's not going to break the bank of most people to replace it if they do destroy it. And I agree about the addition of a small magnate. I have a couple of Victorinox Cybertools, one of which is destine to be melded with a Compact with or without a metal saw/file layer added, and i hate their driver bits. They are far to expensive to replace and easily damaged. I added small 4mm x 1mm magnates in the Cybertool driver and the built in holder to allow use of non spring-ball detent bits in it. you can buy a lot of bits for the price of a single Victorinox replacement.
I agree 99%, Leatherman is/was the leader.
Wrong way around for the nail cleaner. ^^ The worst deficit is the non locking awl and screwdriver and it ridiculous weight. It weights as much as a Leatherman PST
The weight of newer multitools from China needs to come down for them to compete long term. I can live with weird ergonomics.

Good stuff.
Good advice. Having the tools/equipment is one thing - knowing how to use them, how to fix stuff and when to not bother, when to help others and when not to bother. Understanding your position/role, your world, and the people/institutions, who to trust, is all part of the journey.
My own EDC is my wallet, my phone, a few pocket trinkets (pocket knife, nail clippers, Chap Stik, and some dental picks, and a flashlight and a handkerchief). Over the last couple years, I've added a "wallet" that holds a SWAT-T tourniquet, some gloves that fit me, and some wound-packing gauze, because I'm more likely to use them than I am a self-defense devise or weapon. Optional items, depending on where I'm going, include OS Spray (employer mandated) or a handgun.
Nice review. Thank you.
Why would someone complain that you carry EDC items?? Why would it even bother them about what's in your pockets? Bizarre. I like having EDC and have used them. They must feel guilty about being unprepared.
It's interesting how some people can be bothered by what others choose to carry. EDC items can be really useful, and it's all about personal preference! They see stuff being un-necessary, pocket junk, or showing off.
Leatherman Signal is a "it'll do if that's what I have" device. It's not the perfect tool for any job.
Totally agree
EDC is just a man purse. Some dudes put it all in their pockets, and some carry a bag. Thanks for the video!
I agree it's a really nice one. So when they came out I immediately bought two of them. In town I don't need the saw but outdoors it sure can come in handy.
Still use mine on long walks
Ve18 s or regular one?
VE18 regular the VES is 80% size.
Bro this is great. Yet explained NOTHING to me. I’m two weeks into a storage solution for my 79” tool chest. That’s cool but give some info
Made by Highdesert3Dprint. It is meant to carry to tool set, that fits in a pouch or large pocket.
Great content! I still daily carry my Leatherman Surge. I also always have either my Spyderco manix 2 rex45 or Hogue deka or Benchmade mini adamas. Im talking about slimming down my carry edc to a SAK with possibly a pair of Knipex.
Great edc pouch!
It would be really neat if they had put the sak scissors on the walker. Otherwise, a pretty nice outdoor tool.
Also subscribed : )
Really good video and explanations/comparisons. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Great detailed information about these two pouches. I think it's great that the Zerohour expands, but I prefer the slimmer form factor of the Maxpedition, especially with as much as you had packed in there.
Thanks for sharing! and being part of making this happen
This intellectual type EDC content what I need. Kindly I want to share my view on the first point of the topic: You can be proactive after some time, but to perfect your EDC you need unexpected events and problems to solve in the first place and learn from it. So EDC is 60% reactive and 40% proactive for me. For example: You ask the question what needs to be done to avoid the walk for the toolbox 10 times a day? I wish I could help faster in an accident. And so on and so on.
I agree 99.99%
Thank you for the video and the support! We appreciate it! ☺
More to come.
This is the kind of EDC video which more people should be making. Thanks.
Thanks I will make more.
Like your channel 👍🏼
I'm a Super Tinker fan myself, for when the SAK is the only knife I'm carrying. I'm not a fan of the pliers on the Deluxe. For that I generally rely on my Leatherman Wingman if I don't have a toolbox handy.
You have a point because people do not understand the uses and limitations of the pliers.
This right here is a real edc vido love it. I carry these things because i do this and that. Here is the background why i carry an what i carry. Not oh hey look i got new 300 $ knive buy it form my Shop ;) kind of video. I think the magnifying glass is really cool an unique. I also work on computers and printers and i always had to use my phone camera. And magnifying glass would be a much better solution. Thank you for the cool video =). Greetings from Germany =)
Exactly what I am trying to do.
Interesting video. Where I live in Australia there are ridiculous knife laws, we can't carry anything with a blade, so I like the way you approach EDC in this vid. I EDC a fresnel lens, tape measure (mine looks just like the one you showed), and bit driver set (I don't like to overload my pockets, but if I've got room I'll also bring my Knippex pliers), and used to also carry a torch. I bought a bunch of cheap bit driver sets with built in torch off Temu so now I don't carry my torch. I used to always buy quality gear, but I've been tending towards cheap stuff so I don't cry if something falls out of my pocket, I leave it somewhere, or lend it to someone and never get it back.
Look up Cedric and Ada.
Hey bro, just found your channel, love it! It's simple, it's clean, it's good content! Keep doing these videos my guy, I promise when you stick with it, the channel will grow! Best of luck man, keep an eye out for me in the comments!!
Thanks
Nice
Thanks
@ you are welcome!

I used to be obsessed with leatherman had a bad experience with one breaking and poor warranty service amd swore off of them now i carry a pair of irwin needle vice grips(they pinch onto my work vest out of the way) and they do things the leatherman couldn't dream of (pinching air/oil lines on a truck to make it back to town holding garage/rolling doors up or as an impromptu handle for more things than i could shake a stick at) also big + on the fast back i dont have the one you showed but a coworker does and it rips pockets up and the driver goes m.i.a but the utility knife is for sure a slept on edc item cheap and can beat on them without worrying about breaking them(on a side note husky makes a 5inch utility blade that can fit into the fast back but not fold if you ever needed just a little more knife) solid video with great insight hope your channel grows!
I first discovered EDC by accident, Because I run and participate in arcade events, and often need to do quick repair or mods for people. I used to carry full size tool set along with all my arcade equipment and thought there has to be a better way... Without the EDC community I wouldn't have been able to find the tools that I love and use all the time. But Damn. There is definitely an obsession with knives, and premium flashy, bulky tools. After I made my first portable/slimmed down set, All the changes I've made is to slim down even further. A single tool with covers more than one use case that I'm currently carrying multiple for, and smaller tools that are still functional. I'm down to the point where when I head out, I carry phone, wallet, keys. Nobody realizes anything is amiss until I need to pull out a tool or someone asks for one , And then they get to see that I either pull it from my wallet, or detach it from my keys. Right now, even a swiss army knife feels excessive to me in terms of bulk. Thus, why one of the things in my wallet is a swiss card rather than a separate SAK to keep track of or dangle off something. If I carry a backpack, Then I'll also include a mint tin of consumable supplies. I will click around EDC stuff randomly, but I rarely find anything I'm interested in anymore. And am kind of frustrated that so many things that's trending are always so large and bulky. People's "EDC" kits have so much redundancy, bulk, or tools they don't need, -- The amount and bulk I wanted to avoid carrying around for occasional events, people are carrying around as EDC every day. Kind of defeats the purpose.
It is always interesting to see how people get to EDC.
