There are "lazy" strawberries Iearned from a gardener. If we use t h e i r runners we have m o r e lazy plants with little amounts of fruit .....

You're welcome
Thanks Pray to Jedus for guidance
WOW!! Great information!! Great tour!! Great teacher!!
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback.
I took the bottom part of celery stalk Put into a bowl of water Put in the window It did its own thing started shoots Then I planted them So much fun to see something you've grown Thank you For this video Love the insightful information
Good advice with the celery. That could be easier than growing from seed. Thanks for the feedback and watching as well.
What is your watering system like?
haha...basic. I go out there every once in a great while if we haven't had rain in a long time and water it with a hose - that's it. We have good shade around 4-5 pm and everything gets mulched.
Love it
Thank you!
Great to see young people gardening and growing their own food. It is so important to try to be self-sufficient especially with the world going crazy.
Agreed. Teach someone to grow food and they be fed for a lifetime.
What is a good way to store carrots long term, without using electricity?
Some people can them.
I have squash plants coming up all over the dang place. Places I cleared and cultivated for use this year and even some in my flower beds 😂 I never in my life thought I’d have volunteer veggies. I’ve got a watermelon in my center island bed surrounded by elephant ears and hostas. Crazy.
i miss my kid being that age and cute! waaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it's a fun age for sure. Don't want her to grow up!
@@togetherweharvest Enjoy every second and record her and take pictures every chance you get, continue giving her great memories of you and her tending the family garden. =)
Great garden nice video 😊
Thanks for watching!
Love the arches. I have planted cukes and beans together too decrease pest pressure
That's a really good idea! I'll have to try that next year. I love intercropping as many varieties of crops as possible - can't believe I never thought of that.
This is a great video. I have been gardening for many years, and watch some gardening videos for new or different ideas. This is great. Watched it all the way through and got many ideas.
Thank you. I appreciate your open-mindedness.
Another idea is you can use flowers that you can eat so it functions as a crop as well as a pollinator. A Good plant I've heard for attracting beneficial, as well as a bug that eats them pests, and can be used as a sacrificial is merrigolds. I may be butchering the name a bit.
That's a good idea.
This is a wonderful video, thanks so much!
You are so welcome!
Very well explained thank you for sharing
Thank you!
We ordered from Hoover Hatchery this year. I was so impressed. We ordered all pullets and got all pullets. All 20 of them lived. I did supplement mine with brewers yeast after listening to Joel Salatin and i put raw apple cider vinegar in their water.
Good good. It's nice having a quality hatchery you can count on. The hatchery we ordered through is very good. We also use apple cider vinegar in their water. It was the feed that got wet and eventually created mold, that caused this issue.
Growing a cute kid, too!
A couple actually. Thanks for watching
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice tour. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Try Lovage for a perennial celery alternative also Egyptian walking onions as another perennial that will return year after year.
Good information. Thank you!
I love people who are so enthusiastic about gardening! It makes me excited too!
Same! Thanks for watching.

I thought it might add the warmth that they need. But I see you did great with mulch… I think we have a long enough growing season, we get our first frost here in Mid October.
We get our first frost in September. I actually made a minor mistake with the mulch. I should have waiting 2-3 weeks after planting the slips before adding the mulch. This gets the soil really warm, which the slips like.
Why wouldn’t you add mulch right after planting?
Because the slips will grow better in warm soil. Without mulch, the soil heats up. Once the slips are established and growing properly (2-3 weeks after planting), I'll then add the mulch. This is the only crop I do this with.
amazing tips!!! thank you!!
You're so welcome!
Get a couple colonies of honey bees!
Definitely! Something we've talked about.
@@togetherweharvest very little work, 10min/colony every 10 days. Extracting honey in the fall takes time. But very rewarding. I got 120lbs honey from one hive this past year.
Do you know of any good UA-cam channels that demonstrate starting out with honey bees? It's always something I've been interested in.
@@togetherweharvest each area of the US/globe has different things to do due to weather/pests. I recommend finding a local honey bee class. That’s how I got started. You may be late this year.. idk. For Alaska you’re def late. But the longer seasons areas in lower48, maybe you can get one going this year and still get a good harvest. Even 3weeks late in central Alaska and you won’t get a harvest cause our seasons are so short. 😂.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into a class.
I can't wait to get our chickens going to build some great compost!!
Enjoy! It's super easy.
I live in mid coast maine, zone 5b, and am planning on growing sweets this year, it is recommended to cover with plastic ☹️which is opposite of my philosophy. I hope to get a good harvest growing them on a trellis, and on black landscape fabric.
Cover the plants with plastic? I've never heard of this. Why are you using landscape fabric?
What a wonderful garden
Thank you
man this is inspiring! I wanna do this! Yall are bad ass 🔥thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
great video! got some good ideas. thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Thanks for that! What gauge wire is used in the cattle panels you buy?
Not sure. It will probably say on the tractor supply website.
Pear trees love being in flood plains by the way, since you have a creek on your property. They can take a flood for quite a while, way more than almost any other fruit tree, in case you are interested in having some sort of orchard or even just one or two random fruit trees, or otherwise using that floodplain for something productive. Plenty of disease resistant pears, like Warren, Seckel, Ayers, Kieffer, Moonglow, and more if you do some research. You won’t need to spray them to get food. To get pretty food is a different story, at least for a few of those varieties, some of them can be spotty, but just getting food is easy.
That's good to know! Many pear varieties require zone 5 or warmer. We are in zone 4 but I'm sure there's a way to make it work. Great tip BTW
@@togetherweharvest If you’re fine with the smaller size, you can grow the Siberian pear like they do in central Canada for really tough cold hardiness. The most common varieties in North America are Ure and Golden spice, roughly the size of Seckel, and fireblight resistant. There are many other varieties, possibly bigger and better ones, you just have to be sure to look at fireblight resistance of any variety you research because not all of them are resistant. If you’re a low maintenance type of guy like me, just know that you don’t have to do the whole pick them green then ripen them inside thing that most people do with pears, you can let them drop or shake the tree and pick them off the ground. People do that process to prevent the flesh from browning on the inside because they think it’s rot. It’s not rot at all, it’s bletting, the same process persimmons do to ripen during the fall and winter so they don’t lose all quality during a freeze, like a cherry or peach would, it’s just a different way of ripening than normal. Winter is the season wild pears ripen in, the soft brown flesh is not harmful, just oxidation like when you cut an apple. If anything it makes it sweeter. If you want to see what I’m talking about you can look at the videos by All the Fruit about Pyrus Pyraster and Sorbus Domestica, that will show you what a wild fruit tree that’s related to pears looks like when ripe. You can also look into astringent type persimmons to understand what it looks like on a domesticated fruit, those won’t grow up where you are though. Pears are also easier to dehydrate with low tech methods because of that style of ripening. A really nice bit of produce for a time of year that typically has none. Good luck!
Thanks for all the good info. I'll definitely look into this! Well said.
How do you preserve cabbage.
sour kraut
It’s a lovely way of life, we do what we can but not many you suggest as not on a homestead. We live i a street with neighbours on the side of the building and roads etc. but we do what we can and like to watch and learn what I can
Thanks. Having close neighbors would be a challenge
By far the most enjoyable video I've ever seen GREAT JOB BROTHER
Thank you!
I like your work ethic, including butchering and dressing chickens and rabbits for food. I grew up on a dairy farm where most of these things happened. That was more than 60 years ago--I couldn't do it now. Do you plan to homestead into the forseeable future, and do either you or your wife work at jobs off the homestead?
Thank you. Homesteading will happen as long as I am able, yes. I have 3 jobs, currently. One is UA-cam so that's technically on the homestead.
What a wonderful way to use your property, and live your life.
Thank you!
I think she's ready for her close up.Just love it when the kids just get into the video without you asking them to 😊
Definitely! She's a ball to have around while filming!
Bold of you to assume people can afford homes.
You're right. It's too bad really
Once the brocoly have the flowers, you take out the net so they produce seeds or they self polinate? What method do you use?
We harvested these broccoli because we want smaller ones. In other words, didn't save these seeds since we weren't planning to use them in the future. If we like the ones we've planted this season, we will probably let them go to seed and save them for future plantings. Excellent question.
Also Italian Tromboncino squash will grow yardstick long and keeps well all winter.
Ahhh that's good to know. I thought it was a summer squash so they shouldn't last that long...hmmm Thanks for the info!

I am thinking of making stick teepee trellises like yours this season. Do you have any tips for training the squash to grow up the trellis? I would love if you could do a short tutorial for us. Thanks.
Great idea. Yes, use jute twine. By a huge roll at a farm store. Every 8-10 inches, loosely wrap the twine around the limb and your squash vine as it grows up. I could do a short video in the future, yes.
@@togetherweharvest Thank you so much. I have some jute twine so I will be ready. I will keep an eye out for your tutorial. You have so many practical and budget friendly tips on your channel.
