The Unused Dialogue of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Переглядів 65 тис.Рік тому
Paper Mario: TTYD has quite a bit of unused dialogue. The officially translated unused dialogue alone is enough to fill a nearly one-hour long video. This video is the result of my work on Dialogue Tree. Check it out: dialoguetree.net/ Chapters: 0:00 Intro 1:15 Global Dialogue 9:54 Rogueport 18:06 Petal Meadows 20:00 The Boggly Woods 21:07 Glitzville 47:32 Twilight Town 51:43 Keelhaul Key 53:02...
5:31 how did 't become a y with an accent
Funny enough, some of these unused dialogues got added in the remake.
Hi Disable! It's been a while since I discovered this video and your dialogue tree, but I just want to thank you highly for the amazing amount of help it's been to projects surrounding this game. For updating the Mariowiki and for my timeline project of TTYD, I couldn't have done any of it without you. Be proud of what you made, it's a seriously great format.
Holy shit picking up all your party members AGAIN in the post game would've been SO cool
Aha! fourth paper mario video and final for real this time lol you reeled me. I'll drop the like to help promote the effort seeing as you only have the two videos, but I really clicked the channel to see if you had any commentary or opinions for the remake I could save to watch some long time from now. You're thoughtful in your content's approach and I'd give a listen to your thoughts on it. It's 2am over here so I'll check out the website later in the morning, after that NO MORE! LOL gonna abstain from any further paper mario content for my own sake
Just wanna say I appreciate every little mistranslation from this game. Shows they were more about giving you as much dialogue points as possible and not concerned about the nitty-gritty, meanwhile giving you insight into their mindset of japanese/anime-esque syntax without all the grammatical or political correctness of a formal translation. I thoroughly enjoyed laughing at all the banter, cracks, and back-and-forths of an early-00s charm in scripting. The characters may have been more alive in this than dare-I-say SPM, and that's a BIG "may have"!
This is the third game I've played after the 1st and 3rd paper mario's and somewhere I feel it's easily the most fun I've had! I'm somewhere after chapter 5 after starting in around 2022 and my wii's disc drive went down so I'm on pause for now. (I'm a slow player trying to enjoy things thoroughly). The game is a real thrill and truly stands as a paper mario 2, from all the commentary I've heard since early 2010s it very well plays like the best. Better gameplay, an underappreciated WIDE range of character uniquity in dialouge, (thank you for doing your part), it's everything from the first game and more! Didn't watch the whole video was scrolling kinda got spoiled a lil by the train bit. Didn't know they had characters rotate on that train, much less knew that you got an inside view of the train at all opposed to the last game! It's incredible how much more effort was put into world building of older games versus the newer ones of today. Since the drive is down, I started replaying Mario Story 64 for the first time in 15 years a couple months ago on wii vc, only after hitting chapter 3 last week or so did I notice goombario had dialogue for each character you stand next to... my goodness the developers put so much in, as much as I love this game even I wouldn't stop and read EVERY one of them (seeing as a already missed the first few chapters sadly) or I would just never get done! You just confirmed for me that this Any new game I play if I really enjoy I hide myself from content about for years so you're very lucky seeing me here on your video (you're probably the third vid on the game I've seen tonight and definitely the last I'll be watching for maybe another year). I caught the bug tonight after searching some dialogue comparison videos of the old game and now just to get a scope for how different it was... Nothing too striking but the edits have me fuming slightly, especially when most so readily go along with the changes (their boxes are bigger so it gives more room to work with) I could only imagine how many unmentioned obscure dialogue changes were made...
51:18 guess what they added back in the remake!
Hey, do you know of any good tutorials to create text effects like shout, shake, and wave (and whisper and scream from 64)? I can't really find any information about it online... I know they must use some kind of keyframing and I'm familiar with that, but I have no idea how it works.
And the cricket and frog thing is only in the english version its frogs again in the other translations
Can't run away probably just got replaced by Can't flee this fight
I've never seen multiplayer represented マルチプレイヤー. Usually something like ふたりであそぶ (translated, "Two-person Play"), like in Super Puyo Puyo. Not to say it's wrong, but just not an especially good example.
I see. I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, so that's my bad. I think I used that one because I remembered hearing Masahiro Sakurai say it on his UA-cam channel.
oh
I did not expect to walk out of this knowing Pa-patch has a mad crush on Bobbery
The knocking on people’s door dialogue in the Bowser intermission in Twilight Town was actually used in the remake word for word. Also, the "Cola’s on me" line was used in the remake as well.
tossing pipes 😂
43:31 i think this got re-added in the reamek bc i remember reading that and being like "damn"
You should make a video going over major dialogue changes in the remake, text that’s still unused, and fixed/corrected dialogue.
Kinda wild seeing how much of this they added back in the remake
Its really funny to me that all of these mistranslations (Crystal Palace, The frog sound, the Paipu thing, the goomba King) were actually correctly translated in the german version :D
No dice tho because it has exclusive weirdness.
really interesting video, shame this channel only has two
We need more Raichu’s voice 👀
@Disabled Your voice is very relaxing :)
Very nice :)
One question about your webpage, what's the password to the FTP Server and What kind of Emails are you sending out? hmm?
I haven't even watched the video yet, but I did check the link in the description. Subscribed. This is the sort of website I always wish existed for any given game when I'm trying to write about it, and I thank you for making it.
Okay I don't know if you care, since that must have been a _colossal_ time investment and you might not want to touch the site again for a bit, but I found a typo in one of your headers while reading through; it's "subseqeunt times" instead of "subsequent times" at /ttyd/?location=rogueport02, in the Zess T section. EDIT: There are actually several instances of that error scattered around. I'm going through the whole site, since the dialogue is hilarious, but also because I missed some on my playthrough of the original. (I knew Lumpy wasn't just a scam, but the diary entries were a surprise.) Do you want me to update this comment with anything else I find, or would that just be obnoxious?
50:30 - This no longer goes unused in the remake! In my playthrough I spoke to the mayor to advance the story
Yeah! Weirdly enough, it's now the only way to advance, as far as I know. The original random Twilighter doesn't say his dialogue anymore.
BRUH I THINK PA-PATCH MIGHT BE GAY
For 14:10, what about if you have a different stat distribution that is unadjustable, namely, by only upgrading HP (you cant upgrade a stat with Chet if you havent leveled the other two stats at least once?)
Then he would be able to take 5 HP and move it to FP or BP. Even your starting stats are adjustable.
@@DisableYT Dammit, right. I got his functionality confused with Chet's PM64 functionality, where he upgrades one stat by two while decreasing the others by one each. Thanks!
sounds like you had a lot of fun doing the voice acting for this
i love your content so much! your voice acting is really charming, i actually laughed at how you did the bob-omb's BOMB dialogue interjections. i hope to see more videos about paper mario from you in the future!
Would be interesting to see a follow-up with corrections and changes in the remake's dialogue compared to the original. Besides the weird censorship, they did fix most of the references to Paper Mario 64, including the ones in the Shwonk quiz game.
What got censored?

love your channel icon
Can't believe it took my this long to watch this video. Really curious to know if you're going to do any videos covering the remake of TTYD in the future. Actually, I'll be curious to see any video you make in the future, given that you only have two on this channel so far.
yo, that yoshi kid at 16:15 is named Feroshi! If this is your own footage, did you name him after the character from Ninjatown?
Nope! I named him after the Yoshi in an ancient TTYD E3(?) gameplay demonstration.
@@DisableYTOh cool! (Always looking for another fan of that game lmao, maybe one day I’ll find one) Really cool video by the way, it’s kinda neat because I’m playing the remake right now and it’s fun seeing what got changed/fixed and what didn’t
19:15 It seems like the remake also has the same redundancy. There's been multiple times where I've spoken to someone, but it didn't let me skip the text, like you normally can if you've already read something
its a remake not a remaster
I just watched both videos back to back, then went to your channel only to find out that's all there is. Dang. Keep it coming, I like your style!
Wow the grodus thing is an overreaction and a half lol, unless this is some sort of a joke I mean, to me either way it makes lots of sense, whether fixed or not
This guy doesn't think much, does he. "Can't run away!" is most likely a placeholder for the current "Can't flee this fight!" message.
all of these mistakes were fixed in the remake iirc also, side note, your content is really good and high quality! keep up the good work man 💗
charletons unused pit dialogue actually appears in the remake iirc
How do you feel after the remake? I mean they did fix plenty of dialogue stuff. Would be cool to see a follow up video!
It's amazing! Easily the new definitive way to play! I'm planning on making a video about the dialogue changes, but I want to be thorough, so it will probably be a while.
Great! This remake really did check all the boxes. I thought it had lots of new dialogue, but after seeing your video I was enlightened that they just butchered the original. Anyway, I'm looking forward to your video!
@@DisableYTit would be interesting if your site is uodated to include the remake dialogs as well, though i dont envy you for how much work that will be
OH THAT'S WHY IT'S FROG IN THE REMAKE
8:10 Fun fact: Sleepy Sheep sells for more than purchase price in the next town. This - plus not realizing I could get my coins back - means that I usually DON'T have coins for him to steal; this is obscure dialogue to me, just not for the reason you seemed to expect.
So they restored the unused fuzzy horde tattle for the remake but not the unused medals
list of mistakes fixed in the remake koopie koo epilogue - Fixed (but it’s slightly different) rawk hawk tattle - Fixed red spike top tattle - Fixed koopa troopa tattle - Fixed goomba tattle - Fixed (now has one line after it) dark lakitu tattle - Fixed grodus dialogue branch - Fixed chestnut king - Not Fixed pine. T mail - Fixed koopook mail - Fixed frog weakness - Fixed Now you may have noticed that i excluded gloomer here but that’s actually because instead of changing his name back to freddy instead his “tattle” never refers to him with any name as a pig but still gloomer when he’s not one so pretty much everything was fixed except the chestnut king which is odd but makes sense
as a bonus too the remake doesn’t fix the wavy and shaky text and just leaves it as shaky
I think the whole joke with Luigi's story is that he hypes up the Goomba King as the Chesnut King. Otherwise, Mario would know that Luigi's journey was just him fighting the tutorial boss.
The inefficient dialogue finally came to bite Nintendo in the ass as since you can’t skip “new” text that you haven’t read before in the remake, it results in tons of npcs repeating the same dialogue when you check between chapters and yet the game doesn’t let you skip it since it’s technically new. One of the worst things about the new remake
I LOVE your voice acting for the NPC lines it really brings them to life hehe
In the Spanish Pal version, Gloomtail's weakness is Frogs
