Learning to Swim Step 4 - Supported Front Float W/a Kick
Step 4 in learning to swim is here, and it's time to add in the legs! This next step takes your supported front float from Step 3 (if you skipped that one go back and try it now) and adds a little kick to the mix. Don't worry, you can still hold onto something with your hands so you're supported! Taking that out is the next step :)

      We're only talking about inhaling air through your mouth while also having water in your mouth here! The air exchange in swimming is to breathe in through your mouth and out through your nose - this trick is extremely helpful in showing beginner swimmers and open water/triathletes that they'll still be able to get air in through their mouth, even if they have water in their mouth, while swimming.

    Hi there I’m enjoying your podcast and working my way through your archives. In this episode you were comparing the glide to other sports such as cycling but wouldn’t ice skating be a more comparable motion? I’m curious what the science and current thinking behind “gliding” is in speed skating.

    • @SwimBoxFairfax
      @SwimBoxFairfax 4 роки тому

      Thanks for listening Brandon! Yes, ice skating is a more comparable motion than cycling. A lot of our listeners are triathletes, so we try to compare things to movements better understood/that are done by the listener themselves. We actually compare the feathering out motion you make during the finish of your stroke to ice skating, so looks like it's the analogy is doing double duty!

    Below is Korean translations. Thx. ========== Don't Lock Your Elbows During Freestyle! 자유형에서 팔꿈치를 완전히 펴지 마세요! Make sure you extend from your shoulder blades. Not your elbows. 날개뼈 움직임을 통해서 뻗으십시오. 팔꿈치가 아니라. Extending from your elbows leads to locking elbows. 팔꿈치 움직임을 통해 뻗으면 팔꿈치가 완전히 펴지게 됩니다. Locked elbows leads to sliding out and a late catch. 팔꿈치가 완전히 펴지면 손이 바깥으로 미끌리면서 물 걸기가 늦어집니다. Elbows should be 90% extended. 팔꿈치는 90%만 뻗어야 합니다. This extension comes from hip rotation & shoulder blades. 뻗는 동작은 골반 회전과 날개뼈 동작으로 이루어집니다. Once you have extended, the next step is to set your catch. NOT START YOUR PULL! 일단 뻗었다면, 그다음 단계는 물 걸기(catch, 캐치)입니다. 당기기 시작이 아니라!
