How I hid the Beam in my Post and Beam Adobe home
Really good
So amazing 🎉🎉 I love it
Really really interesting. Great job and thanks for sharing your experience. I have two questions if I may ask: 1) what is the climate in your country? Hot and humid? Dry? 2) aren't you afraid of all that wood rotting because it is in touch with that earth bricks which are rather higriscopic? I ask you these questions because I'd like to replicate in Italy with self made bricks and my climate is cold (-5C) in winter and hot and humid in summer. Thanks in advance for your kind reply.
Hi, Thanks for watching! No I’m not concerned about the wood rotting because it’s in contact with the adobe. This is a very very old technique that has worked for 100s of years. Most the oldest building in the USA are Adobe building. We have a lot of historic adobe buildings in my state that are around 150 years old. I’ve never seen any documentation that being in contact with the adobe will cause the wood to rot any fast than normal. As long as the wood is kept dry there should not be a problem. The wood on my home that I’m most concerned about are the Posts for the porch where they come down to the concrete. To manage this, all the posts are off the concrete 2.5 centimeters on a metal base. I’m also concerned about the wood that is exposed to the sun and rain. This we seal with linseed oil every year. Our climate here is high desert mostly dry. We average around 19% humidity. Our temperatures range from -12C to 41C. Moisture is the enemy to adobe, but this is mitigated with over hanging roof lines. There are also sealers you can spray on the adobe. Another really good way to handle moisture is with Lime Plaster/Lime Washes. Check it out on Wikipedia.
bet pulling wire was a bitch
Very cleaver
5;45 can't believe you guy's put your hands in there with out telling him you were!!!!!!!
Твёрдые основания стен прослужат более ста лет, а вот деревянные опоры придут в негодность гораздо раньше. Так строили в средние века. Так как не было других вариантов. Сейчас то зачем сново наступать на старые грабли?
You’re right, the walls will outlast the wood beams but both will outlast me and even my kids and grandkids. That’s longer than most houses being built nowadays. Thanks for watching the video.
So glad you and your son are fine. Hope you recover completely soon. Love your house. I want to make one, but much smaller than yours since it will be my retirement home. Best of luck that you guys get it all done and share more videos on the whole process. Thanks for sharing all that you have so far.
Good job fantastic
Real Adobe walls not covered over really looks cool man. I would leave Adobe bricks natural with no cob.
Can you use uf cable instead of your snorkel tubes? Is it code in Utah that you must use snorkel or wire in tubes? Thinking about building an adobe house in southern Utah. Thanks
I wish more videos like this would include information about the location and climate
Cool! What is that mixer originally made for? I want to try to find that in my country.
You can't have a wood supporting system in a brick wall, it would be a lot better to let the adobe carry the roof. The wood beams get wet at some point and start to rot
Audio could be better.
You can always shape and make some brick molds in the shape of the beam so there's no cutting.😁
👍🧱
Man you should be my lost brother. You do things exactly the way how my dad did! Thumbs up! Thank you very much!
Thanks for sharing is there a recommendation you have on how I can make my own Adobe bricks for a fence that's 6 ft tall here in Utah

How do you protect the wood from termites in Adobe? Termites thrive on clay!

Hang in there! What a miracle. We hope you keep up the good living
Can u please give me the title of the song, it s amazing
The song is titled “Desert and the Stone” by Blammity Blam
which is faster, economical, stronger & aesthetic - cob vs earth bag vs adobe earth
Really neat work! Where do y'all live? It doesn't appear to be Ohio or Maine? lol
Приветствую, что за жидкость темная в ведрах?
Bitumen.
How much does it cost you to build this?
what are the dimensions of your bricks?
Your work and commitment inspiring. Watched all vids and wanted to say thx for effort in sharing. Thank goodness all ok post accident and trust, 2 yrs on, all are well.
Amazing video to watch from Poland. On the outside wall did you put stucco or you left uncovered brick? And if stucco was put on the outside wall would that help with keeping dry walls in the rainy season? Also would stucco help with summer heat keeping cooler inside and winter lower temperatures keeping warmer inside?
Lime plaster over adobe.
Would you build an Adobe house for a prophet?
Mohammed? Jesus? Who returned and needs a crib??
no, cuz they're all dead.
Haha!!! That’s hilarious I don’t even remember what my question was after all this time but autocorrect had a field day with it!😂
Great Job bro, i am planning to build my house soon and i will definitely follow your techniques.
Thanks for the video! I’m in central Utah and the heat and wind are just too much for my garden. I plan to build an Adobe wall around it as a windbreak and thermal regulator. Your videos are a big help.
So you all see nothing wrong with sticking your hands into a giant meat grinder? Please stop doing that !
If gas behaves the same as water, by decreasing the pipe diameter the pressure does not increase. The pressure stays the same however the velocity of the fluid is what increases. Either the pressure from the source is already too high, or the velocity of the fluid causes problems and thus the need for a reducer valve. Thanks for the video!
Excellent bro, good work, and thanks for sharing all the knowledge and experience..
Couldn't you mold the bricks to hold the conduit?
Cual es la mescla que utilizan . Esta muy bueno el sistema.
I live in South Eastern Utah with blue clay and geodes. We dug down 10 ft for a septic and the dirt is the same as the top soil. It is like the moon. I recently scored on triple pane glass and want to build a green house. Should I use asphalt emulsion mix, Portland cement, sand or straw with the clay dirt? I have watched every video out there and I still know nothing (ha ha!)
Hi, sorry I haven’t logged into Facebook for a while. You will probably have to do some experimenting. You don’t want to high of clay content. But with higher clay content soils you would traditionally use straw and or lime. Try finding some sand to mix in with it. Then make some small batches and make a few bricks. Try to control the rate at which they dry. Try to slowly dry them to help prevent cracking. Reduce the percentage of clay by adding more straw and sand until you find the right mix.
i was wondering how many bricks you made, the size of your house and the actually amount of bricks you used ? Am thinking about building in southern Utah and making my own bricks. Just don't want to make to little or to much. Is 10% more then I figured a good amount or did you use less then you figured? By the way your videos are the best I have seen on the internet . Around what elevation are you at? Am thinking passive solar but I won't get sun from 11:30 to 2:30 in wintertime .
Asphalt emulsion? Absolutely horrific
How bout plumbing up with a level for the last 3 layers?
Are there any pictures of the finished building?
Where to buy adobe stones like that? How much per pieces? Is their a certain websites for stores dealers for such materials?
Buy adobes🤣
He made the adobe bricks by hand. He shows that process in his first video.
NEw Mexico sells adobe
There’s adobe yards you can buy from in New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico and probably a few other places. They’re super heavy so try to find an adobe brick yard near you. If you don’t have one near you, it’s probably worth making your own instead.
Extremely impressive
We also construct our houses from adobe bricks here in North Pakistan Chitral, these are good insulator to cold and also very cheap. But I have question "Would we make double or triple story building from these Adobe brick? And what's the strenght of this brick ie how much load it can bear in psi?
I’m sorry I wish I had some answers for you. I know it’s possible to build multiple story buildings with adobe bricks but I have no experience doing it. Also I know that the compression strength depends and the makeup of the soil used and if you stabilize it with concrete. Sorry I don’t have good answers for you. Good Luck!
Width of your wall, you can go 10 times width. For example 14" you can do 140" or 36" first to go three story then 28" second and 14" on 3rd floor.
I hope you can keep uploading the building process, as well as resourcing and pricing. Thanks for sharing
Hi Brandon, thanks for watching. I have a bunch more footage from the process and hope to find some time to go through it and share it one of these days.
