@@oiygfdxssfgg yes, you can do it. But you have to be in the streaming app. You can’t control from the Home Screen let’s say. Or from iOS media streaming UI. Which sometime much more convenient. As you can choose what source volume you are controlling even when you are out of app. Or with locked screen.

Any airplay certification yet? Is it still coming?
@@cameronemery7553 nope. Still not. Everybody believe it’s coming. But current devices will never get it as they lucking chip to support AirPlay.

@@kendrelewis5465 ouch. It’s glorious in the dark! You barely can differ it from the regular tv. I have an OLED in my cinema setup and they are on the par in the dark. But not in the day light though.
Does it have Apple Music streaming integrated?
@@andreya8769 no AirPlay-no Apple Music. Unfortunately. Only via Bluetooth.
USB is only OUTPUT ? or INPUT also ?
@@benedyktczydziesty4399 haven’t tried. But you can’t select usb input in the app. You just have no such option.
Airplay? What's that? Apparently there has to be some special chip on the board before you can get a licence for it. But you have to do all that before you can sell a single unit with the chip on it. Apple, greed, and control freak mentality firmly spring to mind. Use bluetooth if it is that important. It seems though that Apple doesn't support the best algorithms only SBC. I wonder why that is. Well it doesn't bother me. We haven't owned a single Apple product since I bought an Apple 3GS iphone, after which I learned that Android was much more versatile, and fun.
@@shaunhw you are right when talking about phones. And I’d also prefer android if I wouldn’t have other devices. But when you have laptop, headphones, tablets, appletv. That’s all super cool in the ecosystem. Maybe that the the price for being able to build what they’ve built. It’s good to have choice, right?
@@alexpotyomkin Yes, there's a lot of choice in the Android world and has been since the start. The highly controlled world of Apple was never for me, but I gave it a try at the dawn of the iPhone. It was OK, but the requirement to use iTunes to organise all your music files was a complete pain, when you could just copy music files to the Android phone's memory and be done with it in a few minutes. I used a PC running iTunes and the experience was completely dreadful.
@@shaunhw oh yeah. That was dark times. I hate iTunes as many others. But hey, it’s all on streaming apps now. And the iPhone evolved quite a lot. Likewise Android. Re WiiM. I’m missing native phone control w/o opening tidal or WiiM app. As well as easy share of smth your family’d like to. You are not affected, lucky!
I wish they would make it so you can turn off the screen if you like to sit and listen in the dark.

You mentioned about being unable to control the volume through the phone, but are you still able to stream to the ultra using airplay? I’m contemplating on getting this as long as I can stream from my iPhone / iPad.

Hello, im planning to buy the Ultra, but i have some questions. I wonder if you can help. Do you know how good it works with Qobuz? I like to know if you can install the Qobuz app or do you stream it via wifi chromecast? as well as Apple Music. An if it still gives 24 192 hifi. Thanks in advance!

WiiM have confirmed that AirPlay 2 certification is on its way. Thank you for the video!
@@frankdoyle yess!
They have now said the exact opposite. Have a look in their forums. Buyers are very unhappy about this.
Latest news I’ve seen is that the current ultras out now will NOT get airplay certified and they also will NOT get them via firmware on-the-air. I am holding out for future versions that would have them baked in.
@@jp93309 you are right. This is a big bummer and many many ppl are frustrated. Including myself. I’ll remain attentive to their updates. No ETA for certification so far.
Thanks for the video. If you set the input and output to line-in and line-out respectively it’ll effectively be an analog passthrough, can you still adjust volume in this configuration?
@@hlash99 hmm. Good question, I didn’t try and have no analog sources. But my assumption is Yes. Because WiiM has settings to set up the quality of incoming line in signal. And in order to apply EQ/room correction and others it has to use ADC/DAC conversion. Means your analog signal won’t stay analog internally. This is the reason why true audiophiles won’t use its internal TT preamp. You might loose quality on that conversion.
@@hlash99 just can to my mind it also has a feature when you can disable all internal eq’s and volume control. And use it just as a streamer w/o internal DAC. I think in that case line in/out signal will stay without transformations. But again, you can’t control the volume in a such mode.
Thanks for the response!
curious if you can play music without turning the tv on, if connected to hdmi ...
@@roybrolsbeak answered on previous video. But Yes! You can do it w/o triggering other devices.
I connedt Ultra to my Burchart HUB wich run my active burchart speaker - connect with toslink - it can,t turn my hub - is there a way it can switch on my hub? if i just want to listen to music not tv?
@@janlarsen2686 hmm. A bit luck of details. But you might provide more. As far as I get you are trying to use WiiM as a streamer so it can send the signal to hub via toslink and the problem that WiiM can’t wake up your hub? But when both are turned on signal is passing and everything good? If so, I’d check if hub can be waken up by sensing toslink signal. Not all of them can do. Check also resolution you are sending to the hub.
if im connected on the hdmi, can i still play music without turning the tv on ?
@@roybrolsbeak yes! I was wondering the same and the answer is yes! If you are streaming directly to WiiM it doesn’t trigger my projector and appletv.
@@alexpotyomkin ow thats cool, thanks!
Thanks for your video. Was thinking about the sound. You set the sound high on the amp and then control it on the wiim i guess. Or set the sound at 100 on the wiim and then control the sound on the amp. What would you say is the smoothest way to go? Always nice to reduce the amount of remotes. Hdmi arc is good but thats only for hdmi obviously.
always put the source high and control with remote. so amp full open en control volume with ultra
@@AndreasPetersson83 as prev comment said I’m controlling the volume via WiiM. Even more, my amp doesn’t have any volume control, it’s just amplify whatever you give to him. And the beauty of ARC that you can control your playback and volume via Any remote of devices that you have in your chain. AppleTV, projector/tv, WiiM remote. And even from your phone’s native remote control app, when the device supports airplay. That’s why I’m so much waiting for it.

All their other products have it so it's just a matter of time before the Ultra is certified. This wouldn't stop me considering it.
AirPlay 2 is coming - it is supported, and the only reason it is not there is a delay on Apple's end to confirm AirPlay 2 certificaiton. WiiM confirmed they decided to launch the device early without the feature so we were not all waiting till September or so for the unit to ship. They have a post about it on their site.
Great video ….. how can you set up x tv w/ HDMI
@@Havanero52 exactly the same. You’d need to connect hdmi cable to your TV hdmi exit marked as ARC/eARC. All tv’ younger than 5y at least should have them. @@alexpotyomkin You can do all that directly from your iPhone or iPad via Apple Music and connected via BT. Too bad Apple iOS doesn't support the LDAC codec because it is noticeably superior to other BT codecs when its set to 990/900kbps High Quality.
