Match Point of Our Love - Beach Boys
Having just turned 78 y/o, I will say again, " MIU " is THE least appreciated, really excellent album of the 70's, for me. Yes, critics & would-be critics just hated it---------why, I'll never understand. even with the limited participation of Carl & Dennis, the music is, at last, listenable, & even enjoyable. What more is there to ask ? I personally , loved it then, & do so, now. --------MJL, 78 y/o
Out of Sync
Dennis pretty cool here
Is this the video that was actually shot for this song? It just looks so weird?
Dennis is absolutely beautiful. Happy there. God bless him 😢💔❤
Give this to Sophie Ellis-Bextor... 😉
This is the greatest history revisionist video ever. Cobbled together and honestly glorious. Brian looks absolutely out of his mind.
Quite a nice song
The Beach Boys have so many songs from 1967 that are great and relatively few people know about them - like this one!
In 1978, it's a small miracle that there was in fact, a Beach Boys, at all. So great were divisions in the group, yet to hear The MIU album, you'd never know. Both Carl & DW spent very little time in the middle of Iowa in the winter, yet Mike, Al, & BW DID manage it, & somehow, pulled off this album, a 10,000% improvement over the disasters of " Big Ones ", & " Love You ". -------This song, with BW actually pulling off a pleasant mid-baritone , along with " Pitter Patter", & my favorite, " Sweet Sunday Kinda Love " , proved to be a joy to listen to. I KNOW ------critics hated & savaged it ; well, what do any of them know ?????? This is, IMO, THE most underrated album by The Boys, ever. And I love it ! ------MJL, 76 y/o
ua-cam.com/video/BXVzD5Mwgr0/v-deo.html This AI version of a young Brian singing this is so much better.
Brian.one 2 many pills. He is high.
What a beautiful and very candid look at my absolutely favorite band, The Beach Boys. I don't recall ever having seen this video clip before and, to me, it says volumes about each of the boys and what they have evolved into by this time in their oh so very storied career. Seeing Brian taking part in the playing of this song and not just the arranging, looks so melancholy. Carl and Al appear as though they are the prime shaper's of this arrangement. Seeing Denny looking happy yet serious about his contribution to this production is so promising. If I didn't already know how his story would eventually play out I'd be lead to think that he was happy and healthy and looking forward to a long and meaningful life as a cornerstone of The Brothers Wilson and The Beach Boys in general. Viewing the man with this feeling, yet knowing full well what life had in store for his tortured soul brings sadness to my heart. Thank you Daniel for posting this rare gem which brings such real and "recent feeling" emotions to the forefront of my mind. This is such a positive contribution to The Beach Boys saga that this, at least to me, feels as if the viewer is right there in the studio with them all. PS, Since I'm not sure what Mike was trying to achieve here it's just better to let it be without tainting an already poignant and touching portrait of the band which I have loved since I bought my first record album in the summer of 1963. I didn't intend to go on at this length but once started emotions just kind of took over. I humbly hope that you read this Daniel. Thank You!
Unfortunately, I don't think Carl and Dennis are much related to this album. It is sad because I also really like this album and the Beach Boys :)
In 1978, it was a miracle there was a Beach Boys at all.
Dennis's face, watching his big brother so proudly, is beautiful.
So well stated! Upon my first viewing of this clip, I felt the exact same emotion as well.
He wasn't watching Brian. This video is a bunch of mixed-up clips edited together to simulate a studio performance.
Have never seen this before! Excellent!
good editing
Haha, “It's been a long, long while since we've been strung out on love.” That’s such a Brian Wilson lyric. it’s good. I haven’t heard this before
Was he referring to Love it'self or Mike Love?
Dennis seems to be the only one who enjoys it😄
It almost looks like a musical hostage video. Like everyone is there against their will and forced to play. Dennis was probably too high to even notice at the time. 😄
Brian may have been in bed, but he didn’t sleep much judging by his face
Great video, good work. Superb song
😂😂😂😂😂
Great song but Brian just looks absolutely out of it.
Super cursed syncups.
One of their best songs, incredible feeling...
That 1st line kills me....as they were 'strung out' on a bit more than just 'love'!?!
This was a present surprise from Brian after the hideous vocals of the previous two albums. The metaphor of the lyrics is a bit forced, but the melody is nice. A unfairly bashed piece.
At first I didnt like this song but I love it and can't get it out of my head
This is great!
I just found the coolest thing on UA-cam! This song and video put me in some kind of a trance. When this happens, I do what any one of us would do...I say eye-may-ma. Then I find world peace. 🕊
It certainly IS hypnotic!

Why is this song so good and it’s on MIU?!
I say again, " MIU" , is a gem, & this is just one of the many wonderful songs from this work. ------------BW sounds smooth, mature, & confident. -------------------------Wolfsky9, 74 y/o
the MIU album was one of my favorites from their 70's output. Sunflower my favorite followed by Surfs Up then Holland and Carl & The Passions So Tough.
Its a great little record, underappreciated
@@paulsun1001 so true.
Anyone know which song they were actually performing in this video?
I've always thought this was a pretty good song, nice melody. But man, this video...
I heard so many people hate this, but I always loved it. Musically it's top notch. But what can you call it? Kinda disco-like. Someone said East Coast beach music. It has a mystic feel. Like Young Idea - Colours of darkness and Fleetwood Mac Dragonfly.
Brians voice sounded clear again
Actually, it's a nice song but the lyrics need changing
You can see brian staring at mike as he walks over to als mic like "please end me" at around 1:12
Hatless Mike!
i love brians voice on this one. ironically, it sounds very "smooth".. hes too cool.
I love Brian’s vocals on this. However I find this film clip pathetic and very unprofessional.
Dennis looks Cool in this video
A great melody is one that touches your heart and soul and lingers in your mind long after the song is over. Like the haunting melody and harmonies of "Surf's Up" this song is destined to school songwriters for generations to come. So fine, so beautiful, so perfect, so Beach Boys!
Every time I see this video,I wonder this was around the time of Al divorce. He looks so sad and he shed a tear 😪
Thank you Beach Boys for the fabulous music and memories. You will live forever in the hearts of music lovers everywhere.
Not much happening here.
I do like this track. Brian can always create something memorable. I get the feeling that the MIU sessions were odd in many ways. I suspect this video had nothing to do with "Matchpoint". The MIU album has its beautiful moments, however.
Dennis looks great, Brian haunted, Carl angry, Alan resolved, + Mike trying to appear cool. Wonder what was really going on under the surface here
From what I've read, Dennis and Carl were not at all happy that the group was being shunted off to a college campus in Iowa in February to record the MIU album. They felt that Mike was specifically trying to make it harder for them to get drugs during the recording sessions, and they were right. As a result, their involvement in this album was minimal.
Brian is cool!
I love this song - the words are actually clever, using a tennis game to convey a love song. The music is really pretty too. No need to knock it - just listen - It's the Beach Boys!
Love and sex have an infinte sort of metaphors. As they say, everything is about sex except sex itself which is about power.
