Hey there folks! My name is Allen and I own and operate Oak Grove Autosport in Wauconda, IL. I grew up being bitten by the automotive bug from a young age and have 15 years of experience (the last 7 as a full time mechanic) in repairing and maintaining European and exotic vehicles. It's my hope and desire to produce videos that provide accurate information saving you time and money while sharing my love for fixing cars, my knowledge, and my experiences with you as I travel through automotive repairs day to day in the shop.

Oak Grove Autosport: Rich's OM603 Build, Windage Tray Failure Carnage

Rich's OM603 launched its oil pump gear after picking up a few bolts that backed out from the windage tray. I've heard of this happening on some OM61X/OM60X engines from the engine running on collapsed motor mounts. I've been thread locking the windage tray fasteners for the last 10 years, at least. Haven't had any issues

Customer brought in a CL with a completely fried front wheel bearing. Not sure what miracle was keeping this thing together, but she held! We go through and try to save what we can for the customer, but we want to be very clear - the best repair in an instance where a bearing race will grab onto the spindle like this, is to replace the spindle! This was simply out of the question for the custom...
W126 Ignition Timing Off Car Wont Start Runs Rough

If you had your trans replaced and the rear main seal done on your 86-91 M116 or M117 powered Mercedes and the car won't start? Runs rough? Before you go throwing dozens of expensive parts at your car, be sure to check the flex plate to ring gear orientation! Usually these aren't dissembled to do any work, but every so often someone will unfasten a few too many screws. Thanks for watching!

It’s insane that incorrectly installing a trans can cause misfiring
If I were you, I think I’d call the customer in/video call and show them the sludge. Ask if they’ve been sticking to their maintenance schedule (we know they aren’t), and explain to them just how bad sludge is for the engine. Give them the opportunity to decline cleaning it out, refuse to provide warranty if they decline. If they do want it cleaned out, provide a real world book estimate (I’d rather overshoot and “save” them money), and warranty the work. Gives them options, and doesn’t pigeonhole you into fixing something that functionally you’re not really getting paid for.
Just don’t take it return that shit

thank you very much for this great video. I come from Germany and I completely overhauled my W 126 with M 117 engine over a period of several months, and the gearbox was also removed. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to how the flex plate was installed and then reinstalled it incorrectly. I've been desperately looking for a solution to my very poor engine running for a few days now and came across this video by accident. I am so infinitely happy that I can hardly express it, because I would never have guessed that it could be because of this part. I can only say thank you very much. You have made me very happy.

Thanks for the video documentation. I didn't realize how much shrapnel was in the oil pan. starting to drive again after my accident in the other car so I've yet to go through a full fuel tank of diesel yet. Hi, I got a SL 450 R107 with the M117 Engine. And I believe The Sparkplugs are set up Wrong.. (Sorry my english is bad) so where is Cylinder 1? because on my car Cylinder 1 is on the driver side in the front and I believe that Cylinder 1 should be on the right Side of the car in the front... it runs very very rough and somebody renew the whole ignitin system and I believe they connected it wrong thank you in advance for your answer.
Cylinder #1 is on the passenger side of the car (if your steering wheel is on the left side). driver side front is cylinder #5

So can that do misfires on cylinder 1 and 8 and thanks
generally this affects all cylinders as their timing will be off. if you're experiencing misfires specifically on those cylinders 1) make sure your ignition cable routing is correct 2) check your cam timing. set the motor to TDC and pull off the valve covers and confirm they're lined up! chain rail failures are very common on these engines
