Thanks! It is fun a tad stressful but I’m about to hop on and play some more of it to get the hang of it!

It may still have a demo that’s pretty impressive. As well as the Gamepass option. I too am waiting for it to go on sale so I can have the copy in my steam account. It’s been a brilliant experience so far but I’m only about 4 to 5 bosses in.

lol thanks bud i appreciate that, yeah a collab would be lots of fun, i love talking about video games. Also i did some digging into the reason why they model the nexus of the solar system off to the side. I think it is to accomodate for the suns "poles" while also making the planets appear to rotate in a perfect orbit. i assume they did this to keep the maps clean and the planets on the same level while the map is open, but still use the math created by the simulation to move the system in real time. what we're seeing is probably the optical illusion of perfect orbit on the map.

That’s not a bad metric for assessing quality. I didn’t purchase it outright, but using that metric against the Gamepass cost I’ve definitely received my moneys worth. I’ll have some more episodes out here in the next few days but I’ve been really enjoying the resource farming and ship building. I haven’t played any more of the story in a few days but I’ve put hours into understanding the outpost mechanics. Lol yes Sarah is aggravating. Vasco is best boi. Hmm 🤔 thank you for telling me. When I edit the videos it sounds too loud so I guess I’ve been over correcting. I’ll keep that in mind. 🙇‍♀️

I believe game pass is just worth it period. I'm slowly gonna make my way trough the video's had noticed you had more uploaded but I've a lack of time. I'd say the sandbox features are the things that do work in this game, ship building and crafting things like that. Glad you agree on Sarah, she seems to just always be aggravated by everything. It's like having a nagging wife. About the sound, the balance is just slightly off, if the dialog was a bit louder it would be easier to hear without overpowering your voice. (I think this may be a problem only for people who listen on speakers though)

People aren't making it out to be bad and idk where this comes from. Having never played the game but seen the criticism, my overwhelming impression of the game is that it's mid as hell, and not what people wanted or expected from a AAA bethesda RPG.

@@Person01234 I guess we just interact with different folk. I’ve heard or seen plenty of people trashing the game for not being what they expected. And my answer at this point is that if you go into it expecting a Skyrim or falling style experience you’re gonna have a bad time. It’s a resource management sim with rpg elements to keep it fresh. Idk after changing my perspective of the game and playing it a different way I’ve had more enjoyable experience. Kind of similar to how dark souls and elden ring are similar games but you cannot play them both the exact same way.

It’s a leftover from my Skyrim days. I’d leave healing items off the favorites to give myself time to decide what I’m going to use. Otherwise I’d just spam the key and waste a lot of heals. I’d need to play with the quick swap more to integrate it in my gameplay.

@@datalemon I use it quite often especially in combat. Also check your healing items, some items are deal over time like the injectors, but the food is instant health so worth keeping some around. Invest in storage space and utilize vasco as your backpack (he has a high carrying weight)

@@datalemon also caught this at the end, your crew is actually quite important to choose depending on the missions you take on. They each give you skill bonuses that can be utilized (everyone during space combat) and your follower during ground work can help you with their skills in dialogue options. When you start unlocking more followers you'll swap characters here and there to get the next range of skills to complement what you've chosen.

@@PVEDAYZXB I noticed they do have specialized perks but I guess I’m more specifically wondering what their benefit is being part of the ship crew. Like while I pilot and fire weapons are they only providing stat benefits or are they actually doing something on the ship itself. Like say I’m the captain of the ship so I’m ordering them to perform certain tasks and they’re performing them? Or are they just passively sitting in their stations providing me with some stat bonuses?

I got a little redundant at the end apologies. But I hope that clarifies a bit what I was wondering. And you did answer that so I appreciate it.

@@datalemon people have conniption fit destroyed their game play with glitches by going to fast or too slow leaving a mission late. For me the game is like 'Doki Doki Literature Club!' under the skin.

I'd sooner have a conniption fit fighting the bosses in lies of p than throwing up my hands at some "slow" gameplay. What I'm gathering is that this game, while touted as an rpg space sim, is more along the lines of a 3D resource managment sim with rpg elements. I intend on messing around a bit more with the outposts and that whole system before I give that thought more validity though. Lol a space doki doki I'm down for that What's this "never played a bethesda game before nonsense. Go play new vegas or morrowind for us bud! =) Though realtalk you might have to mod morrowind for it to be "playable" by todays standards. In the sense that the button layout is weird and the graphics could use a slight overhaul. Otherwise, an absolutely gold game.

While I agree that review bombing creates a negative placebo, I disagree that I 1, am victim to this placebo, and 2, that I've done anything to "bomb" the game myself. This is the first of 5 episodes released so far. Over and over through out the series so far I state "I enjoy this game. Does it have its problems, sure. But I still enjoy it." Alien I have seen. The opening is a bit slow I'm not sure if that's the comparison you're making. The games Sundog and Starflight I'm sad to say I have not played. However having an interest in retro games, I may try to locate them and put videos out on them. See I guess this is me just being a moron but I'm not catching the importance of your last sentence there. "opening lines with linn and heller is so suspect after learning about the game 4 months later" If this is to imply I only found out about the game recently, its a bit misinformed. I have content on this channel dating back to last year of me discussing my excitement for the game. The specifics about what linn and heller are talking about, I rewatched the beginning and didn't find anything that stood out. Short of it being very reminiscent of the slow opening scene in skyrim. The whole time I had strong vibes of "I am on slow track to be introduced to story in bethesdas style" Either way. I appreciate you coming on here and giving your thoughts. I don't feel like I've done anything short of giving this game a fair shake. And have continued to record and post episodes even after this initial first impression. Hope ya have a good day bud.

I have quickly realized this. I’m curious did they adapt in the crafting system from fallout 4. Where random items are semi valuable because of the material they’re made out of.

I found the inability to scrap junk a bit disappointing myself. As a Fallout 4 & 76 veteran, I miss scraping junk for crafting mats. @@datalemon

@@charliel7654 that’s a big oof on their part. I too enjoyed scraping junk in 4. I didn’t play a lot of 76 but I enjoyed what I did play.

I mean I understand that, but the system we are given is a touch underwhelming. You don’t even need to assign a grav point the game has been doing it for me. It just seems like they could have improved on this system of constantly fast traveling and loading in without any real gameplay going on.

Hell yeah! That’s awesome glad to hear it! New Vegas is an excellent title. I have fond memories playing it when I was young and just last year at my exgf apartment. Absolutely wonderful game.

You made a FANTASTIC choice starting with New Vegas. Definitely the best modern Fallout game. Incidentally not made by Bethesda lol... maybe that has something to do with the why.

Also just a tip this game does make u feel “lost in space” if u just go to a random planet sometimes u will get lucky and find a cool planet with a city and other times u will find a Barron planet. Once u get acclimated with the game u will know how to find the interesting and awesome stuff in it. But not everyone has that patience … good thing im a sucker for anything space so all the sight seeing really goes a long way for me

I mean I feel like unless I was just staying completely unaware of my surroundings it would be difficult to not know how the game has been received. Getting most of my games through steam I’m immediately greeted with the “mostly negative” review status. So even if I hadn’t kept up with the game at all I’d still at least have that little bit of info. Would you mind elaborating on what you found amazing? That’s not like a gotcha or a rhetorical I’m genuinely interested in how you saw the game and hearing( or reading) your opinion. Thank you for swinging by giving me your view and chatting a bit 🙇‍♀️

@@datalemon oh no ur good no offense taken. what I found amazing was how great the quests were all the faction quests were really good and in order to learn more about the lore of starfield they go over the lore of the game in depth.(specifically the UC vanguard faction quest was my fav). Then main story isn’t like what it is in other games like that explains all the lore any of that it’s just an over arching story similar to skyrim. I think something I loved also is I’m not really into the whole open world games that just say u can go anywhere and let u be the driver tbh just cuz I feel overwhelmed a lot of the time and mostly just follow the main story to lead me on. So something I liked about starfield is that because it’s so big u can’t really wander off at least for the first 40 hours until u get the hang of it cuz u will feel lost . So using any kind of quest as the driver to go to interesting planets was a great time for me cuz they usually led to super cool worlds that devs put either handcrafted stuff into or put a lot of time to some of the lore of the planet. There are some side quests that aren’t interesting not all are great but there is so many quests it’s easy to just leave it and do another. Lastly I’m in end game now and I was close to saying I was done but I finally found out how to play and use the right skills to be an explorer/beast hunter build and I’m able to play the game I want to and earn a lot of Xp that way.

I also noticed that you were struggling to get vasco to come with you. You have to ask Sarah to stay behind (she will stay on the ship if you have her assigned) and then ask Vasco to come with you.

I appreciate you stopping by and telling us how you feel. That said I don’t necessarily agree with a few points you made. As far as the loading screens. Yes it’s true lots of games have them, but I would say starfield having so many of them borders on excessive. While recording yesterday I had an instance where I loaded into an area and when I opened the door the game took a moment to load again. That’s kind of a minor complaint next to what is essentially very lack luster space travel. You get in, you warp, you get out. That said the ship combat was actually a lot of fun, the little bit that I’ve done. Something that felt strange to me and you guys will see this in either today or tomorrow episode but in most other titles from Bethesda you don’t get companions this early and that feels a little strange to me. It’s not bad necessarily, just a slight difference. Then this is where I run into issues talking about the game. Before last week I really only had others peoples opinions to go off of and so I chose not to talk about it. Now I only have a few hours in a 100+ hour title. A figurative drop in the water if you will. Once I have more playtime I do intend on discussing my thoughts in a long form video essay. Would you perhaps be interested in telling us what you liked and disliked about the game?

I would love to have that attitude towards games but I've purchased Bethesda games for over a decade and I've only been burned once (Fallout 4, and only because it was such a departure from what we got in 3). Starfield was advertised as Bethesda's "first RPG in space". Their marketing is filled with nods to them being the creators of Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Everything they've put forward has said "Skyrim in Space". That's what I went into it expecting when I purchased the game for $100 Canadian! It's really difficult for me to give Bethesda a pass when it takes at least 2 hours just to get through the intro... Nobody is getting a refund if they don't like it within the first few minutes of the opening scene (look at how long character creation took for DataLemon). This is kinda why I think they deserve the hate they get. What they do with it will remain to be seen. No Man's Sky took that hatred and turned it into rocket fuel for the greatest space adventure game ever made.... We'll see if Bethesda decides to fix the issues players have, or once again, let the modding community fix it... Overall Starfield deserves everything it gets, the praise, the criticism, all of it. It advertised an experience and didn't deliver that experience their long time players were told they were getting. Would love to have an in depth talk about it (maybe once DataLemon is done with it) and see where we agree and disagree on the criticisms. Hope you enjoy your day, stay golden Dustee. ✌️

@@PVEDAYZXB Personally I’ve always loved Bethesda games. Being introduced to them through morrowind when I was fairly young and then not getting to really experience them until oblivion and new Vegas I don’t think I’ve ever been burned. Even when I purchased fallout 4 I understood it was going to be different from previous titles and found myself enjoying the scavenging aspect. The story and narrative fell flat as countless multi hour video essays here on UA-cam will tell you but over all I enjoyed my experience. I didn’t purchase 76 until here recently and only to fill out my experience of their games a bit. And actually found myself enjoying it. On the level I enjoyed say Skyrim or new Vegas or fallout 3, certainly not, but I did still enjoy it. The character creation being so long doesn’t bother me. It being an rpg means there isn’t going to be a creative phase of getting into whichever character someone is going to play. And honestly it could’ve taken way longer. I rushed it for the purposes of content and even considered taking it out. I left it in to show how much time is really taken up in the beginning of games. Whether through an onslaught of cutscenes or an in-depth tutorial that takes too much time. Regardless if it’s necessary, it’s aggravating when you just wanna jump in the game. Personally, even tempering my expectations with how the game has been received I will say I do find myself a tad disappointed. The planet to planet travel is unengaging cutscenes comboed with 2 or 3 button presses. The models for as high definition as the world around me seems the models seem off in that very Bethesda style. This is not a good thing. When looking around in 1st person I noticed I didn’t have a shadow. Now for a small indie game this wouldn’t be a big deal. But this is Bethesda game studios. The game has been in development far too long for small things like a shadow not existing in fp mode is in my book unacceptable. My lord $100 Canadian? I’m so sorry my dude. Hopefully they do pull a no man’s sky and continue working on the game but then that has its own implications and issues for the gaming sphere as a whole. I will definitely continue posting my experiences and would love to have a conversation once I’ve wrapped up the game. @@datalemon thanks for your reply. likes some of the faction quests are awesome. ship building. visual representation style of the game. Random encounters in space travel. NG+ adds a unique twist everytime. Loot grind to find the better weapons/armor suits and stats Planet topography while exploring. Music variation of weapons. some of the armor sets look good. gunplay is enjoyable with right weapons. Real Time Simulated space. Sometimes on the planets the game looks beautiful. Load times for me are quick, like 1.5 - 2 second. Im on PC Dislikes Main story is a bit lacking. Some things that are discovered on planets can get repetitive. not enough starting inventory. ship cargo is not per ship. Some Armor suits look bland. Not the biggest fan of the skill system they implemented. wanted more random encouters on planets with more discoveries. im 200 hrs in. does it deserve the hate.. Not at all. could somethings been done better of course. my playtime has slowed down as of late due to other game releases and playing Monster Hunter World again. For me and many other Starfield is a good solid game.. thats all.

This is why i cant take your feedback seriously. i was there day one for that game. put in over 500 hrs in that first year and loved it.. do i play it now not really. why you ask. because the game has lost itself. in the early days it was about adventure.. discovering that perfect planet or wacky creatures or fauna, seeing if there was anything exciting out there in the universe. Apart from the first two expansions which gave us base building and vehicles. each following update took away what the game had. Mystery. what was out there.. in the end you realise that there is nothing really new you will find as its all pretty much the same as the first 30 planetrs you see. same goes to wildlife and fauna. i love NMS for what it was and cant wait to try Light New Fire. NMS is an arcady fun space survival game Starfield is an space adventure RPG. 2 totally different games and should not be pitted against each other.

@@datalemon I think I was much more blown away by the opening sequence. I had stars in my eyes going into it, had been hyped for months. The first 20 hours were great but It took me alot longer than you to catch some of those small things that quickly add up. It's a really cool experience, I hope you get lots of views, cause it's different than the other 5,000 "Starfield Sucks" videos out there 😂 Which are great but this is like a science experiment haha

@@PVEDAYZXB don’t get me wrong some parts of it have been really visually impressive. I actually really like the simple opening reminiscent of an old space documentary from school. You’re very flattering thank you 🙇‍♀️ It’s actually already doing waaay better than I expected. I’ll do my best to keep being entertaining. I definitely don’t think it “sucks” but it definitely isn’t goty material like its predecessors.

@@datalemon I enjoy the game for what it is, and it is a beautiful game. Space has never looked so good. Bethesda just set the bar extremely high by comparing it to Skyrim and Fallout. I think they would have been better served to advertise it as an Action Adventure game with some RPG elements, more akin to FarCry or Assassin's Creed, etc. They definitely didn't do themselves any favours..

Fortunately I didn’t give them my money. Gamepass saved the day here. I’m kind of siding with you. A company that at one point was the standard for “good rpgs” has since fallen very far.

I would consider Starfield to be a "Bethesda Lite" kind of game. It's not their classic Fallout 3 or 4 RPG, with engaging stories and memorable characters, branching storylines... It's more like a lite version of those games, with far less emphasis on Starfield being a role playing game and more of it being a not-so-realistic or in depth Space Adventure/Exploration Experience... Fun, but not what anyone who's played BGS games before was hoping for.

@@PVEDAYZXB I wish Todd “leather jacket” Howard would’ve gone all in with the concept of realistic space travel and needing to harvest resources to travel at risk of getting marooned somewhere. He discussed this in his lex Friedman appearance last year and man that would’ve been a lot of fun.

@FinGeek4now I am sorry that you feel like you wasted your money. This definitely shouldnt be a regular occurrence but it does seem like more and more companies are delivering either painfully average or absolutely atrocious gaming experiences and expecting people to just shrug it off.

@@datalemon Thats because they out source their games to a third party. They pay another cheap company to make it and the last year before release they get their team to work on the bugs. This is why they have so much loading and load times were so long because that company doesn't know rendering and game mechanics well enough. They did the same with Fallout47. They got a third party that only made a few racing games and never touch online games to work on Fallout47. They need to stop being cheap and outsourcing their games. All experience dev knows how to fix all these bugs, but what makes it hard is coming behind someone else and fixing it. Hope this explains why they're doing so bad.
