Great video! Thanks for choosing VPA to be in your quiver.
@vantagepointarchery thanks these Omegas continue to impress!
If you get a picture of a buck at 5:30 AM, he’s usually heading back to bedding and probably not too far at that time of year
For sure those mid October captures can be a good sign. Just don't think he is currently living there and likely on a late night stroll. Hopefully he comes by soon
Congratulations, good video
@@raybaird9541 thanks for joining
Great video and an even better shot. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for joining in
Did you sharpen that or factory sharp?
@@clay8222 i sharpened them. Factory sharp isn't really important to me since I always shoot them into targets before hunting.
Gotcha. I shoot iron will single bevel. I can sharpen them but nothing like that. I use their stone they have. Considered getting the stay sharp guide but haven’t yet
@clay8222 iron wills are good heads, I have the stay sharp jig for my cutthroat and it worked fairly well. A little finicky but good once you got them flat. Really couldn't recommend the Omegas more it's so easy to get them insanely sharp without a jig.
Another great video.,
@@racingruss7263 thanks for joining
Are you hunting private or public?
@ryanbowden288 both this was private though
Man I really enjoy your channel
Orange County checking in. I enjoy watching your videos. Which neck of the woods are you abouts?
@boboya256 bounce around all over VA mostly west side of 81
Aye culpeper in the building
Nice deer. What kinda frame pack you use? Thanks
@johntate3354 that is the last generation mystery ranch with the pintler bag on it. I have really enjoyed using it. I have both the pintler and larger Metcalf bags great choice
Good job brother Carroll Co checking in ✌️🦌🐻
@darkgreygandelf4441 good luck, the ruts starting up!
Great video! It's exciting that we have a cold front coming in. I'm taking my son out tomorrow morning for his birthday to hopefully get his first buck!
@@coreyswhitetailwoods4747 good luck out there
Great video! Thanks for sharing it with us.
@travismonk2202 thanks for joining along
So you just leave it there? What a waste of life. Take it for food, fair enough. Do it for fun, and you lost my vote.
I live off of game meat. So no I didn't leave it there. It's packaged and in the freezer.
Vermont resident and hunter here..Black Bear population in the last few years are strong...My goal is to take one this year will muzzleloader....As always great video.
@racingruss7263 good luck up there, are you hubting over bait, dogs, still hunting? Not sure of the regs there.
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA Can't bait in Vermont.I am set up in the oaks. Not many acorns this year but do have a couple shooters on my camera..We have a early and late season..Still hunting the early.Good luck to you.
@@racingruss7263 good deal sounds like you are in the same boat as me. Playing the acorns and wait
Pretty sure VA requires Hunter orange during muzzleloader and rifle. Better be careful on what ya post.
I hear you, camera doesn't capture it all. ML is too and from a stand so all is good. Rifle is at all times though.
what made you pick that spot?
@@SuperSlappy25 general scouting and knowing that a buck chased a doe over there that morning
Nice decisive shot.
@@wessmith6215 got lucky she stopped to look back
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA sometimes luck is what it takes.
Great video.Really enjoy your hunts. What do you use for a Muzzleloader set up?
@@racingruss7263 that was a CVA optima lr v2. Used 290gr barnes tez over blackhorn 209. Was a great setup, went to a smokeless setup this yesr so eager to try that out
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA Thank you and good luck.
@racingruss7263 same to you thanks for joining in
Sorry if I missed it, but how far back do you go that you pack him out? I’d like to pack out eventually, it looks like that’s the way to go when you’re hunting far in.
@wingsman13 oh yeah for sure, I will never drag a deer more than a few yards. Always going in a pack, much easier
Hey man, I've really been enjoying watching these mountain hunts. I'm in the eastern part of Virginia I love hunt public land myself but we don't have mountains like that around here. Do you mind if I ask you what camera setup you have? It just seems very versatile and portable and has good quality audio and focus.
@coreyswhitetailwoods4747 sure thing. To keep things mobile i try to be as simple and light as I can. Current cameras used are a Sony AX53, GoPro 10 Black, and when I arent going too far a Sony a7iii. The ax53 is really really solid and I use a pretty minimal saddle hunting camera arm from diy bowhunting. Hoping to get a sample of the sub one from Genesis 3d printing to test and do a review on this year as well. Get a decent fluid head and remote to control the zoom and youbare set.
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA awesome, Thanks so much for the response. Is the Sony or the GoPro the one you're constantly moving around quickly before taking a shot. Like when you shot the bear, first you had it on you. Then right before you shot you must have turned it around and got it on the bear. I'm curious , do you carry that through the woods on a tripod so it's always ready to get a video? I use a Sony a6600 but I seem to have a hard time with getting good shots and being able to do it on the fly. Especially if I'm walking and see a deer, being able to get the camera on it quick enough. Just curious how you do it so quickly and efficiently?
@coreyswhitetailwoods4747 that was a gopro with the magnetic clip I clip it to my pack strap when I hike.
@@lawsonhuntsSWVA that sounds pretty awesome and it seems to work out really good for you. Yeah those are the shots. I really appreciate because you can get them so quickly. I may have to look into investing in something like that.
@coreyswhitetailwoods4747 the new gopros are really powerful for quick captures and post edit zoom and stuff. Better than completely missing the moment
I have a new Browning rifle. A Xbolt Speed Long Range 280AI. With a 1@8 26-inch barrel. I topped mine with a new Leupold. A VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle scope. I just got a few boxes of Berger 168gr Classic Hunter bullets in. Never had any issues with the 140 gr VLD hunting in my 280 rem. Or my 7mm mag with a 168gr VLD hunting bullet.
@ozark_trapper typical berger performance at close range. They tend to fragment wildly at such high impact velocities. 280ai is about the best all around cartridge imo
I am doing load development with my new 280AI. It has a 1@8 twist 26-inch barrel. With the ELD X 175gr and M 180gr.
@@ozark_trapper i would love to build a 280ai superb cartridge. What velocities are you seeing?
That’s a big ugly shooter right there in my books! That buck has seen some stuff!
@@urbanxbow5431 100% gnarly old bucks are a special thing. Hope he passes by again soon
I hope you get a chance on him. That deer gets me excited!! I don’t have unrealistic expectations either. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Can't wait till you get back in the tree to hunt muzzleloader bucks and bears ,my favorite videos !!!
@@paulshirk6362 I'm counting down the days until my vacation! Thanks for joining in!
I hunt near a apple tree. My blind is like 15 yards away. Good luck this season
@@wcwcgarner2717 they are great early season spots for sure.
Nice work man too bad you coukd get that rib meat and all the neck meat though😢
@Ikmtyou2337 thanks, I was able to get the majority of the neck I normally run the knife up and make long cuts and leave them attached to the shoulders. Rib meat is always hit or miss depending on the shot, I rarely grab it. We are fortunate to have a lot of opportunity so not really worth taking it in most cases.
What county is that in virginia because its beautiful
@guywilson3233 the mountains are hard to beat in the fall. Stunning country in VA

@matthewstanley6000 west of 81, thanks for joining in
More evidence that heavy arrows are the way to go.
@285JSB mass and quality one piece broadheads are the only way! No chance a light arrow or mechanical would have made it through that bone
@@lawsonhuntsSWVAtotally agree. 😎
Hey man just wanted to say your one of my favorite hunters to watch i live in Va also so I can relate to the style hunting
@codysnodgrass2139 thanks for joining, glad you can relate to the videos. Good luck this year!

Man please switch over to iluminock so we can follow arrow! Great video. Bone destroyed!
@BudBanksOutdoors unfortunately in my testing there is no accurate 4mm lighted nock I have found. I think once this batch of arrows is done I'm going to go back to 5mm shafts for that exact reason.
Thanks for your support, Trevor! Awesome video - the Omega is built to withstand bow and be shot, resharpened, and reused 👏

550 grain Sirius Appollo. 100grain annilator bh. Similar results. Good work!
Awesome shot. I would have aimed at the same spot. I’m also at that arrow weight using Geminis with the regular 200 grain VPA single bevel. I’ve got mine sharp, but Not much urban archery here in Russell county.
@@travismonk2202 the Omegas are really really easy to get wicked sharp. I just did a video on sharpening them a week or so ago

They’re pretty common, about 1/3 black ducks here in NS have a bit of a green tinge on their head like this, not really a hybrid, it’s probably only 15% mallard. I got a 50/50 black duck/mallard drake last season
@yeetusthefetus5759 was an awesome looking bird, and was super FAT. Added him to the wall with a mallard/black hybrid as well
