    Hi Mike, Another strength question: do you train weights immediately after your gymnastics training session? Big congratulations on your competition success I just watched your recent video. All your skills came out smoothly.

      I usually do my strength work at the start of the session as that's my main priority. It does take a lot of effort though so if I need to be fresh for a new skill or routine for example then I will do it at the end of the session instead.

    I also use to be a gymnast and had wanted to get back into the sport. It's pretty motivating to see people of my age doing so! Good job with the routine Mike!

    Hello Mike, May I ask some strength and conditioning questions? Does the split routine work best in your opinion when training în gymnastics? How many sets are you when adding weight training? (I train basic level gymnastics I still working on front tucks) Are you doing other forms of weightlifting exercises outside gymnastics? Thank you for your time.

    • @Mikes-gymnastics
      @Mikes-gymnastics Місяць тому

      There's many different ways to train that work well but there is no best or perfect training split, it will all depend on your goals and what you can recover from. For example if the intensity is high then you will need more time to recover between sessions with the same exercise/muscle group. If the intensity is lower then you can train that muscle/skill more frequently which may be beneficial for hypertrophy or practicing technique but not necessarily for strength. I usually do 3 sets per exercise but if the intensity is high or technique starts to break down then I'll do less. If I need more practice or am focusing on a particular muscle group then I'll do more. The videos always include the main lifts and sometimes the accessory exercises such as external rotations for rotator cuff strength etc but otherwise this is everything that I do. I think weightlifting is a great tool to use as you can scale it in smaller amounts, whereas with bodyweight work the jumps in intensity between progressions can be quite large. If you're at a basic level then my recommendation would be to focus on consistency at a moderate intensity (3 sets of 8-12 reps per exercise per session) to accumulate volume in order to practice good technique.

    Actually I have a question.. How can i start my training session after the warmup? by floor skills? Or by condition workout? And how can i warm up for my floor skills routine to get more comfortable with it with less fears? And God bless you 💕

    • @Mikes-gymnastics
      @Mikes-gymnastics 2 місяці тому

      Either is fine, I usually prioritise my strength work as most of my goals are strength related so I tend to do that first, but if I need a lot of energy for a new skill or routine then I'll do my skill work first if the equipment is available. For routine work you should be comfortable/consistent with each of the skills individually then build up combinations steadily over a few weeks. e.g week 1: 1 skill, week 2: 2 skills, week 3: 3 skills etc For the start of the build up it's a good idea to use a softer surface such as a tumble track if you have access to one so you can do more volume as it's less stressful on the body. As the weeks go on gradually increase the height of the landing mats so they're higher than the track as that will require you to put in a similar amount of power like you'll need on the floor. When you're comfortable with that then try on the floor itself with a thick mat for safety, swapping it for a thinner mat when you're happy that you can peform the skills safely and consistently. Other ways you can build routine endurance and feel more prepared is by doing running routines/substitute routines. Running routines are where you run between each skill so you don't get as much chance to rest, do these onto a soft mat. Substitute routines are where you do that same number of skills but you replace some of the harder skills with easier ones. I hope that helps.

    May I ask: Does these exercises improve your strength on the skills that you are working towards or is it injury prevention?

    • @Mikes-gymnastics
      @Mikes-gymnastics 2 місяці тому

      A bit of both, the accessory exercises are mainly to increase strength/size in the muscles used in the skills and the stronger the muscle the better prepared it is to handle the intensity of the skill work and the less likely you are to get injured. For example weighted dips target the pecs in a similar way to the cross so by getting stronger in dips I have greater potential in the cross. Specifically I've found that squats and deadlifts have helped with high impact tumbling such as double backs, and as I've got stronger on overhead press my planche has gotten better.

    Are you just training floor and pommel?

    • @Mikes-gymnastics
      @Mikes-gymnastics 2 місяці тому

      Mainly just floor and rings strength, the pommel work is really just to prepare my wrists for flairs on the floor, which I plan to progress into a flair to handstand.

      Thank you! Yeah definitely give it a try, most clubs will run adult sessions which are normally 16+ or 18+. The great thing about gymnastics is that there's always something new to learn whether you're new to the sport or an experienced athlete, and with a little bit of consistency you'll be suprised how much you can achieve.

    Actually i have a questio... I I always find that after every great Training session, the next session is bad How do I deal with that?

    • @Mikes-gymnastics
      @Mikes-gymnastics 5 місяців тому

      It's hard to say for certain without more information but it sounds like you might not be recovered enough by the next session. If your first session is quite intense then I'd suggest your next session be lighter, either by reducing the volume or by working on easier progressions. Alternatively if the sessions are very similar it might be worth adding a bit of variety to the second session to give your body more chance to recover. I hope that helps.
