Washington Burn Morels 2024
This was our first trip out this Spring, foraging for Burn Morels in Washington State, on the West side of the Cascades. It's always great to get out and hunt for these awesome springtime mushrooms. We rarely get to look in burns on the Westside, as we usually go to areas on the East side of the Cascades. Always a great adventure with my friend, when we get to forage together. They are one of my favorites to harvest, cook, and eat in the Spring.
This video was originally taken in May of 2024 and just getting around to putting it up to share.
I hope you enjoy the video, thank you for watching.👊🍄
Here's a link to the SOG knife I was using in the video. They are a great company, local to the Seattle WA area. I love this knife. Check it out here:

MUSHROOM HUNTING EPIC SPRING KING BOLETES

This is the second trip to this area mushroom hunting for Spring King Boletes. (Boletus rex-varis) On the last trip, we were just getting into them and we started to find some EPIC ones once we got dialed into location, temperature, and elevation. We found some huge ones and a prime new area, which continues to produce as we gain higher elevation. We were seeing them at 4000' in the Cascade Mou...

Are there any Ramarias out there that you watch out for that could be a bad look alike to that Ramaria you took at 12:30? Thank you.

Hey there. Well for my area in WA in the cascades in the Spring we have this one which is the Yellow Spring Coral (Ramaria rasilispora) it is considered edible, properly prepared. Properly identifying can be a challenge but for us here in the Spring we have maybe 2 similar, the one above and the also the BigFoot Coral (Ramaria magnipes) but this one is a very intense colored yellow. As with any Ramaria , if you haven't eaten it before you should just try a little and see if it taste bitter or if you have any GI reaction. Always best to be cautious first time. I'm going to be using it to make some extracts. I believe you also get them in CA. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching and reaching out. LMK if you find any. Thanks Brother👊🍄

@@mmmmmray GM, I do a lot of my own extracts and research and I read a paper about the Antioxidant activity of various fungi, in relation to Phenolic compounds and their free-radical scavenging abilities. A yellow coral , Ramaria flava, that grows in other parts of the world had shown to have a a wide range of antioxidant, antibiotical and anticancer activity and since I am able to find similar fungi here in the same family , I thought I would do an extract in an alcoholic solution, as per the research and since it can last indefinitely , I would have one to try and test if needed. I prefer to make my own in this regards and since it popped up on my radar and I found that one, it seems like it was meant to be. It is quite amazing to be able to go into the forests and gather the bounty and bring it back home to feed and heal yourself. Something quite special, well for me . I am truly grateful. Thank you for asking , hope the reply wasn't too long. Have wonderful 4th my Brother , stay safe 👊🍄

@@mmmmmray Hey Brother , thank you. If you don't mind I would like to suggest you go and visit realmushrooms.com I have e the ability to make my own extracts and supplements, but I do buy from them and have been doing so for over 7 years. They have a tremendous amount of information in there "LEARN" section. If you have the ability to purchase from them , I would sincerely suggest you do. While you are learning and going out and foraging, you can use there products to help you in this regards. Now full disclosure, I am NOT affiliated and trying to sell you. I have been a longtime customer and always recommend them to everyone I can . I take the Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Resihi and Turkey tail minimum. You can purchase from AMZ or go directly to their website. If you go to the website , as a new customer you get 20% your first purchase. What I like is that they have different sized capsules. i buy the 300 count ones, as I take more daily of what is recommended. The Lion's mane alone is my saving grace. I was in a horrible accident back then and it was the only mushroom that actually helped alleviate my neuropathy . I also use the supplements for our Chocolate Lab. If you have any other questions, just ask happy to help. 👊🍄

Hello Thank you for that. Yeah Exciting for sure, more to come. To answer your question , No it is not. Hypholoma capnoides is a saprohyte that grows on decaying wood. This one in the video is not mycorrhizal, it is a "PARASITE" type that grows on the mycelium of Suillus . (HINT) It's in the Bolete family.(HINT) You also have to peel the slimy layer off the cap to eat it (HINT) The very bright YELLOW base is also a major key (HINT) . Give you 2 more tries and then I will tell you. Thank you for attempting. Great to see your homesteading channel as well. Great stuff.👊🍄❤️
