Sooo a lot of your issues stem from the fact that you watched the new world dub. I’m honestly not sure how you ended up watching that dub unless you were explicitly looking for it, since it’s only ever been released on vhs and all releases since the 90s have used the much better vis dub. The version of the film you watched cut out 30 minutes. The scenes that were cut explained things like what the hell was going on with Toichiro (err mcmoon)’s death scene, why maetel is organic, and established tetsuro’s idolization of captain harlock before he appeared.
I found the dub here on UA-cam! The video description said that it was the Roger Corman release, so I went with that one. But I'm sure you're right, the longer version probably is way clearer on some of this stuff.
I never watched this one because of the "Third" in the title. I didn't want to jump into the middle of a series and have no idea what was going on. From the sound of it, looks like I would have been very frustrated with the movie and even more frustrated when I attempted to find the first and second to make some sense out of what I just watched. Thanks for the video, you saved me a serious headache.
GE999 made sense to me. Evangelion on the other hand...
🤣🤣🤣
The AI looks more terrifying than the original 62 covers, good work!
This anime, no matter how dear it was and is to my heart, was the mother of plot holes. I remember being 13 and just watching it while constantly going "wait, what?" or "huh?? how did that happen?" I was basically talking and ranting to the TV lmao, but Idc. I love it anyway.
I love bothe Armitage and Galaxy Express! I must really like weird AF anime.
Great Video 😊👍 Another small channel with amazing content. It's definitely anweird one but as someone relatively new to anime, i am definitely intrigued by it😂. Also, the art style is the same as that used for the Daft Punk album/movie Discovery (Interstella 5555) I used to watch the music video as a kid in Nigeria 😂 I guess the same artist/animator worked on both.
Thanks very much! i remember that music video too, it was awesome!
They are both animated by Leiji Matsumoto himself!
@EdwardChan.999 that explains it! Thanks 👍
Is Joey a young Captain Harlock?
I think you may be on to something there. They do look similar, don't they?
Did you know that according to the production notes of GE999 this film’s first script was so long the film would have been 4 hours long? According to extras on Discotek’s Blu-Ray, Toei Animation made series creator Leiji Matsumoto cut the script down to just over 2 hours.
4 hours is pretty amazing. Maybe the film would've made more sense if it were a bit longer.
Gotta watch this, only seen the series, and the animation quality really doesn't compare
The Whisperer In Darkness is really good for what it is. It is clearly a passion project.
I watched it as a fansub back in the day long before I watched any Captain Harlock, so I would definitely agree that in that context it doesn't make sense, for sure. Aside from the obvious plot holes and things that don't make sense X )
Jeffery Combs is an amazing actor. Especially as Herbert West. He's also great in From Beyond. Great cosmic horror.
I agree, he did an amazing job.
Galaxy Express 999 is a spiritual movie. It is about humans losing their humanity. They want to be machines (devoid of souls), the movie is about why we should fight back. Losing your humanity is the worst thing that can happen to you. The Machine bodies seems strong but they are actually weak.
I think that's a beautiful interpretation of the film.
Stop putting slop titles attached to good things
Never!
Watch the TV series. It is vastly superior in everything but visuals. The Oedipal thing is present there, too, BTW.
la blue girl.. yeah no dont go there
🤣🤣🤣
Remember seeing this as a child, and confused me to no end how anything makes any sense in the movie, found it kinda creepy also about the abandoned stone bodies etc.
Can we talk about how Maytell’s design is almost identical to the girl in Interstella 5555
You're right, it is! 🤣
Oh wow gee I wonder why. It is a mystery.
@@VRstylish Captain Warlock's best friend did seem to know time-traveling Count Mecha.
@@apilgrim8715 That's true. Maybe he was the one who told Joey where to find the Time Castle.
lol Pretty much all the female characters drawn by Leiji Matsumoto look the same. It's his artstyle, afterall.
Harlock Saga: The Ring of the Nibelung is a great short series that includes a lot of the same characters. Very enjoyable watch.
Galaxy 999 tv series is really good and explores some really interesting concepts
Galaxy Express alongside other Leiji Matsumoto works are set in his expanded universe along side Space Pirate Captain Harlock. What is also interesting to note is that the film for Galaxy Express 999 is a sorta like a compilation film (in a similar way to the Gundam 0079 films) and that a lot of the confusing elements are greater expanded upon and make more sense when taken in their full context. I still think that if you watch the dub and go in blind Galaxy Express 999 (the film) is super confusing with a lot of interesting sci-fi concepts. I do however want to pitch an even odder more nonsensical show for your entertainment and that would be the seminal work of Garzee's Wing (the dub). Either way, great video and I can't wait to see more!
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment! I'm definitely going to check out Garzee's Wing!
@VRstylish love it! Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Galaxy 999 was originally a long running manga and TV series; therefore, the movie version's rush story was (IMHO) to maintain key plots and characters for familiar audiences.
I dont know why but asian horror movies scares the shit outta me. I think its the ghosts. Asian ghosts are terrifying to me.
Me too! 😱😱😱
Another movie that’s so underrated from Thailand is Laddaland. Great emotional horror story. Singapore also has great horror called The Maid.
Asian horror lets gooooo
I feel that Dead Again takes some inspiration from Twin Peaks.
Stumbled upon your channel so perhaps you've mentioned these in other videos but there's 'The Wailing', 'Roh', and a fun horror Indonesian director Joko Anwar who did films like 'Satan's Slaves', 'Impetigore', and 'The Queen of Black Magic'.
Randomly was suggested this by UA-cam, a good random rec for once! - I want to watch Ox-head Village (and the others in that universe/series, like Howling Village) so bad - I watched The Cat somewhere (a former roommate was swapping around free trials on streaming services for a bit and I was checking out the Asian Horror selection on each), and I agree with a lot of your opinions on it. The story has compelling components, but it takes forever to get to the main mystery of the movie and meanders around so much. The only benefit of the meandering and slow perusals through different characters' lives was that it left a LOT of room to speculate about how the ghost girl got ghostified. And the ending got me bad, so like. I was recommending it to my roommates later that day just because I was so affected by the ending; it completely wiped how boring the beginning of the movie was from my mind until you were showing clips/screencaps of the pet salon bits. So I suppose that is also a point in its favor.
😍🥰thanks for making this vvideoo!!!
No problem, thanks for watching!
i whould like to know the opinion of disney about the prompt "mikey mouse eating cheese"
The Creature Teacher, Attack of the Graveyard Works, Cry of The Cat art work (what looks like TV show episode scenes) after the book covers) is darn creepy, the Haunted Car is by far my favorite! Especially the art work and what looks like a TV show episode.
Rewatching and recommenting. Always sucks when a reupload gets tanked on views.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Hey, i was just about to start using midjourney for the very first time . I looked up a tutorial from a year ago and downloaded DISCORD. On discord it had an option to "use via app" so I thought mid journey is now letting everyone create images on their website . is it true by the way ? Do I need to use discord ..or I can delete it completely and generate images on midjourney website now ?
This video is kind of outdated; for a while you had to use Discord, but now I believe everybody can use the website. Hope that helps!
Don't suppose you could make another one for tales to give you goosebumps?
I sure could! I have a few videos already on the go, but I'll add this one to the list. :3
Good script, but the volume seems to be very low compared to other videos, and it would be helpful with some bookmarks for the individual films.
Thank you ! I've watched countless videos like yours hoping in vain to discover something new . The Full Moon Miskatonic U trilogy flew under my radar . My 9th grade English teacher introduced me to Lovecraft because of the author's impeccable grammar . That was 47 years ago and I've been a fan ever since .
Good list. There are a couple lesser titles, eg. I know one adapting The Music Of Eric Zhan, but yeah, if you go for at least a bit of quality (or a lot), then this is to go with.
Good list, although I do wish you had pointed out how Re-Animator with Jeffrey Combs has a very large cult following. But I guess that isn’t that big a deal. Some other good movies worth checking out are Cast a Deadly Spell, the Necronomicon anthology movie and the 80s adaptation of Castle Freak and the criminally underseen The Resurrected.
wow yeah. great to see such an aficienado's take on the great American Gothic of HP. I never knew there were so many movies of his work....how about Edgar Allan Poe? have there been many movies of his work? i vaguely recall 'the pit & the pendulum' as a 'Hammer Horror' but i could be wrong??....i'm gonna subscribe to such a worthwhile cause, love it
Well done, both for the list and having endured some of those, uh, films. I've seen some of them, and plan to check out some of the others. Of the ones I've already seen, Dagon and The Call of Cthulhu I found pretty enjoyable. Also, there is a really old version of The Dunwich Horror from the early seventies that isn't great, but does have some nice weird moments in it. Well, I'm off to play some Delta Green (it's a table top RPG with the Mythos set in the modern day), have a fun Halloween.
You appear to have overlooked the 1970 version of "The Dunwich Horror". Stars Dean Stockwell among others...
Nice!
fun fact the word racist was created by a J3is communist ☭ not even making it up it's like racist didn't exist till thane how connivant
okay i am unsubing i don't give two F how " racist " Lovecraft is yet the KKK and black slavery and even jim craw lows only happening in the US and who can forget the racist black face from Hollywood and the racist WW2 posters. point is the 30s was a okay era to be racist you losers achieve nothing by pointing it out and the N word was use coastally back in those days dose this = he was racist NO but he was deftly told to think this way because the media back then use it too you guys chase a freaking strawman made out of nothing burger 🍔 . and modern culture is way more racist considering pandering has evolve into a new form of racist stereotype
i do love the cover art for this movie
Me too, it's pretty cool!
What AI app is this? I want to do ome horror stuff and most AI wont let me
I used Midjourney and Bing Image Creator. They SHOULD let you do horror stuff, you just have to be careful about how you word your prompts. Hope that helps!
25:41 I've heard of being two-faced but that's ridiculous!
When I watched the show, I actually liked most of it. Only 3 stories I didn’t like. The first story, and the 2 stories with the reoccurring family where the first is the nail obsessed kid and the other being with the demon cat. The rest of the stories were good and I was thinking about them often after binging the show
Im holding myself to not comment before finishing the video but hhhh Im very hard to get scared, so I wouldn't call this series scary at all. It made me feel agonized, at worst. I think calling it cringe or predictable is too much? I dont like people calling things cringe so I guess that doesn't help. Although the siblings did get me annoyed, I hate unlikeable characters with no redeeming qualities and you can see the siblings literally did no change after the happenings. I do feel like you do lack some empathy towards the stories and definetely is taking a FICTIONAL setting too seriously, I wouldn't enjoy anything like that either lol. All and all I did feel like you did for most of these, specially cause I didn't read any of it, but you surely could've gone more in depth of why you didn't like the stories, anymation, concept, etc. Than just "its too out there to be scary" "its just mildly annoying" or "its cringe". The first complaint does makes me wonder if you even like Junji Ito.
Horror is very subjective. It's not just the Japanese, horror and comedy are one of those genres that don't always translate well from culture to culture.
