The Adventures of Konrad - Session 3 - "To Madrigal" (Solo RPG)
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 роки тому
A mystery to himself, Konrad has a vision of his past: Dahlia, the giver of thistles, her hometown of Madrigal. What can it mean? Armed only with these glimpses, Konrad redeems the debt he is owed by Khrist. The pair set out on the long journey north to uncover clues about Konrad's origins. A comically uneventful hex crawl ensues. (Feel free to suggest your favorite hex crawl mechanics) Music p...

    This looks really interesting. I must admit that getting into solo play has been a bit overwhelming. I've tried to do as much research as possible but now i'm a bit overwhelmed and just want to play 😂 but don't know where to really start. I love the simplicity and I love that I could make it into a GM screen. I do have one question. Since I'm so new to solo play (but not group play) how does one find an adventure? While I do feel that I have a very vivid imagination and have read a lot of fantasy books, I'm not sure i could totally wing an adventure out of thin air for my first solo.

      The first page has Quest generator tables :) with action words, like “defend” or “locate” and then nouns like “person” or “chalice” - and then if you want more detailed info you can use other tables for descriptions. Additionally, the Yes / No oracle chart can help with questions and you can really get into a flow state with the imagination this way. Hope this helps. If you are still struggling, why not start with the opening paragraph of an existing adventure module? Cheers!

      Hey - Thanks for your question. So if you have a "yes / no" question you want answered, you first decide on how likely or unlikely it is, then roll on that column and check the Result table on the right. Hope this makes sense!

    Its just structured creative writing and for me it is a form of therapy for stress, anxiety, depression, and many other things. I am able to turn my problems in to stories and confront them which has been hugely helpful to me.

      That’s great you found an outlet. I find that character creation and rolling dice to see what happens in the world is a bit different from traditional writing as roleplaying offers a specific kind of first-person escape; you are the character etc

    Interesting but bypassing world building and npc generation would make the “odds decisions” you feed oracles also uniformly random. Without knowing what world system is like, you can’t say ship weapons are likely. The biggest problem I have with suspension of disbelief in rolling like GG does, is the inconsistency. It’s too much Arabian Nights for me. I could never “reason” on a character and its environment and next goal and how to achieve it. At least DND offers a structure on how things react.

    I am new to RPGs and new to Solo RPGs too. I am a 40 Year old Guy without Friends or a Girlfriend. I have interest in RPGs but since i dont have anyone i can play with, i will start with Solo RPGs. The Thing is that i am really interested in Story, in exploring new Lands etc. Can Solo RPG provide me interesting Exploring Adventures?

    I love the tables. My only issue is the busy background and greyscale make the tables hard to read. I really wish they were just the tables in black and white. I have a feeling I will be cutting all the tables out and mounting them om white card stock.

    Looks like a great project. I found out that random tables are really good but when you switch theme (from fantasy to SciFi) you need other random tables and when there are too many of them you are stuck. Lately I’ve been using only open questions to get all the information bases on context. This works pretty great because no matter which setting you are in you can get some information.

    I was always interested in D&D and TTRPGs but I never knew anyone that played. 2 years ago I discovered some UA-camrs that ran solo rpgs and I was so inspired that I bought some books and I started dropping into the rabbit hole. I mostly use the rules and Mythic GM Emulator. BTW great video!

    That last line had me literally laughing out loud :) Brilliant stuff, I think what your channel is doing that others perhaps haven't done for me is giving a real, genuine sense of how a solo game works - in a very entertaining and engaging way. Namely, how it's different to creative writing. Loving the story, by the way - Konrad's awesome :)

  • @yogawithdharma
    @yogawithdharma Рік тому

    This is great, enjoyed watching it a lot - thanks you :) It's interesting because I'm trying to get into solo TTRPG with minimal experience of TRPG at all, save a couple of yahoo group games back in the day and of course the FF gamebooks. I think what's been stalling me is the amount of rules in *any* core rulebook, even those deemed 'rules light'. You seem to have sidestepped that simply by using the core book for character creation alone. After that you've kinda freewheeled it mostly with your basic d00 oracle. Is that the secret do you think? Keeping the core mechanics as simple as possible?
