For over a decade, MVP has been a game-changer, guiding a generation of entrepreneurs and corporate innovators towards success. But as with many popular concepts, it's often misunderstood or misused. That's why I'm here to sh...

The business model canvas: from chaos to clarity

I watched a video last week where a super experienced and excellent lecturer was teaching business models at a top business school. However, they didn't use any visuals to help show what they were talking about. Now, I consider myself to be an expert of business models and I found it really hard to follow what this lecturer was saying. So I can imagine many of the students didn't fully follow e...

Love this Nick. I have used the Value Proposition and the Business Model Canvas to begin many transformation programs and it all starts with Customer Relationships and their jobs to be done!
Thank you so much Terence! 😁🙌
So simple yet so important. My key takeaway actually is how they keept their first users in the loop by sharing Progress, Problems and Plans. Might have to use those bullets for an update video myself 😅
YES 🙌 I really liked the update video you posted a few months back. We need more of that. Videos and written form. Thank you Vakentin 🙏
Incredible video. Pure value! 💯
Thank you bro 🤩 That’s my goal. Just trying to bring value 🤲💎
Unparallel content 🔥
Thank you bro 🤩🙏
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure!
Gold as always Nick 🔥🔥
Legend! Thank you Mohammed!
Pro tip for using the canvas: move from two dimensions to three. If you use a digital canvas, it’s easier, but you can do it analog as well. Use different size stickies to represent relative impact (e.g. value, priority, importance), link stickies that are dependent or connected, and as you already mentioned you can use colors for simple timelines (e.g. now, next, and later)
Thank you for this.
You're welcome James! 🙌
Thank you for the video, it´s good food for thought... I agree we should not speak more about MVP as "Minimum Viable Product"... We should instead speak about "Minimum VALUABLE Product" ... I like that more than "business experiments" (and we keep the MVP acronym jaja!!)
That is a funny Nick, well done on the video
It looks like you are using the HADI cycle framework, to generate and test hypothesis fast. We do use it the same framework when validating the early age startups ideas or already implementing and developing a continuously system of improvements, both for startups and companies as well.
Thanks very much.
hey there , i would like to ask if its wrong to type this on a computer, and if its fine should i use word or powerpoint
Business model canvas is The best thing happened to the whole world of business . Thank you for everyone behind it .❤
Totally agree Dahab 🙌 That's why I love making videos about it
Really great video!
Thanks Robert! 😁🙌
I think people just need to stop being confused about terminology. MVP is not how you describe it in the video, and should come AFTER you have done prototype testing iterations. MVP is looking at the product solution you want to deliver, and using MoSCoW to determine what the minimum product you have to build in order to meet the minimum requirements to get paid.
Thank You
You're welcome 🤗
Perfectly explained ❤
Thank you so much Sunaina!
nice one .very explicit
Thank you Dina!
Great video with simple explanation and since the subject used it something I am interested in, it helped make things even more clear. One thing I have to point out is that the digital products Chris sells are very much content he is reusing from his time running Blind plus newer content he created in partnership with other experts he knew in the their respective fields.
Thank you Jonathan! My goal is to make business models more clear so I'm really pleased it worked! Totally agree with your added points too. 🙌
Love it!
Woo! Thanks Ped!
That is an interesting perspective. I believe it depends on the audience. As a consumer, I'm more likely to purchase an MVP than a Business Experiment. There's a stronger belief in the MVP's potential to be fully developed, even though, essentially, they are the same thing.
I think we're on the same page Ivan. Before you build the MVP you do some basic desirability tests like customer interviews etc. Then once you have some evidence to suggest you should build a single feature MVP, you go ahead and do that. But it doesn't make sense to immediately build an MVP from the start. Tesla is a good example of a company that did different experiments before building anything.
Great video!!!!!!!
Thank you Laura 🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hi Nick, I really liked your video and that you ask yourself the questions that a random person from the audience could want to ask. Really well done!!
Woohoo! 🥳 thank you! You made my day 😊
Build, measure and learn -this could make a great tattoo! Adding a metric to your test is a great way to measure the success of your build.
hahaha I agree 😆 I want it! Metrics are definitely important. They're in the Test Card which includes: 1. Hypothesis: We believe that... 2. Test: To verify that we will... 3. Metric: And measure... 4. Criteria: We are right if...
thank you.. this this the most clear bmc explanations❤
I’m very happy to hear that. Thank you 😊☺️🤗🤩
Hey Nick, loved the video! I also agree with you that MVP seems to have lost its sense, if it ever had any. Personally, I prefer using the term "business experiments". By the way, have you ever read "The Right IT" by Alberto Savoia? It's about his approach for running fast, frugal experiments to find out which idea is most promising. Take a look at it and maybe even invite him to your channel. He's a really approachable and funny guy!
Hi Nick, first of all, you should wrote disclaimer: Do not not try this at home (before shaving)😂. Seriously, I like: "simply saying we're doing experiments". Yet, I think that main confusion stems from separating MVP from prototypes- which (prototypes) are anyway on the list of 44 business experiments. There are slightly different versions of what Eric Ries said and wrote, and when I asked Dr. Osterwalder for clarification, he responded that prototyping comes much earlier, and that MVP follows much later in innovation process, bringing me to conclusion that MVP is what it's saying: minimum VIABLE product. With MVP we're testing for viability/ profitability of products/ value proposition and business models , versus only for some features (like with prototyping). And that is the point which adds even more to misunderstanding, because it is hard to test/ isolate only for product viability, rather we've been testing all "elements" of BM (canvas) how they work together; whether the whole combo is viable; I mean mix of VP, CRM, channels, resources/ capabilities/ people/ technology, culture, partners/ activities, prices, volume/ scale, costs (breakeven), ROI. In effect it's about de-risking before funding and investing in all elements of BM, or in operations& scaling 4 exploit stage. Shouldn't we replace MVP with MVBM?
We’re completely aligned Bogdan! I like the concept of the MVBM but maybe we can find a better name? 😊🙏
Superb storytelling. Yep, done the build-build-build plenty of times, with modest testing. Should have learned.
I'm a recovering build-build-builder too David! 😁 Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Great video! I never thought about it but males so much sense. Although I see that the term MVP is going to be hard to be removed for many innovators.
I'm really glad you got some value from the video Francois! I agree it's going to be a long journey to make the change. But the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I believe we can do it. Imagine a world where all companies understand the power and the process of running business experiments. 🤩🤗
Absolute legend. Thank you for the education 🙌🏾🙌🏾
You're welcome Ayo. I'm really glad it was well received. 🤗
Excellent video Nick - I've left comments on your LinkedIn about the topic of MVPs, but I wanted to say how great this video is - every part of it is important, well considered and gives more value. Always learning from you bro!
Really enjoyed reading your comment on LinkedIn and this one too. Thank you bro! I'm so pleased you noticed the attention to detail that went into making it 🥰
Thank you Nick for reminding me of the learning step! Measuring happens almost automatic with audience building but taking lessons from it actually takes effort to sit down and interpret this data.
I love how you took this and applied it to the creator context Valentin! 😁 Such a great way to use the Build Measure Learn Loop. 🙌
