    Oh wow, that's the amp I grew up with, my dad owned this one. One day he gave it to me and after a while it stopped working properly, ended up on the attic and with lack of better understanding I brought it along with more stuff at the local thrift store. great tutorial, very clear. i think you sold me that iron too. been looking to upgrade to a decent one. would like to see a full recap video one day as the dreamcasts are all starting to die from the capacitors expiring.

      Thank you for the kind comment, It is appreciated. Yeah, The Milwaukee iron is pretty handy, It is a bit bulky, But you get use to it. They had an issue with them at the start, Where the hot end worked loose in the plastic. This one is a replacement from milwaukee, With the modification on it. So its perfect now. I will look in to a re-cap video and put it on the list to do. 👍

    Why do I have to knock the power knob for the machine to turn on, on my machine just like this. It runs fine but I have to get it started by kind of beating up the power button😅😅

    • @retfurb
      @retfurb 29 днів тому

      It sounds like some kind of loose connection, Meaning the knock starts it up. Could be just a dirty connection on the switch.

    Perfect timing - I just picked the same one up and am looking at doing a strip and refurb too (although I will leave the paint job on mine as-is). Seems fairly straightforward from your helpful video; anything to be particularly aware of as someone fairly new to electrics taking this on?

    • @retfurb
      @retfurb 29 днів тому

      Ah, great. Glad this will help you. I was a little unsure about the paint, By this one was quite rough. It is fairly simple in design and very mechanical. Which is far easier this way. The wiring will more than likely need doing, As the rubber outer is usually failing at this age. This is probably the most safety critical part of the refurb. I quite enjoyed doing this one and will probably do another in the future.

    The little springs are supposed to be inside the stanchions, not outside. They are the negative springs and they help the fork to don't have a very harsh topout and to have some negative pressure in the fork.

    I be extremely careful touching any circuitry with a brush as it can cause short outs which can takes to isolate. Put it on its side and let compressed air and gravity to do its job. You want to avoid touching anything if possible. Repairs are expensive and you can end up writing off the amplifier.

    • @retfurb
      @retfurb Місяць тому

      I do not clean with any electrical currents going through the machine. They are all isolated from the mains and discharged. So no risk of any shorts etc.

    Thanks for the great reference video as I prepare for the same job, in my case video has gotten very dull which I've been encouraged may (hopefully) improve after a recap. Curious to ask, where did you source some decent capacitors from? Don't suppose you have the list of which you needed to buy?

    • @retfurb
      @retfurb Місяць тому

      No problem at all. Thank you for taking the time to watch it. If you do a google search, You will be able to find capacitor lists. I have found this link, Which will hopefully help www.consolesunleashed.com/tech/sega-master-system-2/ You can also open it up and go through what is inside. Sometimes they can differ slightly. I purchase most of the capacitors I use from an Ebay seller 'TEKKIKID'. The guy is always really helpful and sells decent components. I hope this helps.
