You forgot one VERY important step. You need to call 811 to have all utilities marked before digging. Even if you're replacing a box, you might need to dig down deeper, meaning you could potentially hit some type of utility lines (gas, electric, cable, etc.).

We have tried these screws over and over and over and the squeaks never really go away. Our house is only 6 years old and every room upstairs squeaks…plus the laminate flooring downstairs in the kitchen.

Hey buddy, so no middle age dads for us...but we are old people now that live in a rural area and regularly our mail box get bashed. Love the idea with the jack but our issue for now is the road as box and post and about a foot of dirt are gone. A metal culvert sits about 20 inches down in the soil backed up by circa 1920 concrete stairs...so state roads regularly just digs a hole and replaces a box and post whenever they bash it. Yesterday a car crashed into the whole mailbox area...took out the mailbox, the post and as I mentioned about a foot of soil....box was never found and culverts were crushed. Now I am told get a box and post and send the bill capped at 100$ to police dept for person insurance to pay. Help....Need a basic 4x4 and box idea for two not especially and not rich people to do. Thanks Oh, I need to be able to move this thing because not sure when they are coming to pull and round out the crushed culverts...they were definitely not replaced.

Well done and said. I’ve been a trim carpenter 40 years and this problem is happening in brand new builds still today. Some builders simply don’t walk through their homes with a level and make the framers fix this crap. Compound miter those corners a tad too. 😅

I'm doing this right now in Alaska, bugs in the woods and side of road half mile from my house. Not quite the same terrain at all but appreciate the concept of plumb. Took the whole structure up the road to my house and laid it out on driveway to re drill holes in new post. Get it back to the roadside? It will get done one way or other, with some help or not. I don't know what I'm doing with the drilling the holes into the 4x4 and looked on here to find out. I'm not a carpenter, I'm a do-all housekeeper beyond retirement age. Plumb video. Thank you.

My husband held the latch while pried just a bit and Whammo! it opened. Oiled all the mechanisms and shut and close 3x's. Good to go. Thank you x10.
