Fourtown Lake BWCA 4 Day Solo Wilderness Canoe Trip Mudro Entry Point
I wanted to go to Moosecamp Lake but due to rain and not being sure there would be enough water in Moosecamp Creek I decided to camp on the far north end of Fourtown Lake for 2 nights. Then to the South end to fish my more familiar spots for 1 night. I was going to stay 4 nights but I got home sick and really missed my family so I left early evening on day 4. Join me on my 6th trip of the year!

BWCA Nina Moose Lake Part 2: June 10- 14 My easy fishing trip continued with lots of hanging at camp due to wind and rain. I did get a chance to fish each day but not as much as I was hoping. On the way out I finally encountered a moose in the river! But I couldn’t remember if I had my camera off or on and unfortunately turned it off so I only captured a couple of seconds on film. Next time! It...

Join me on my bonus trip to Fourtown Lake BWCA. I brought my hot tent and stove for some extra fun. After watching I realized that the campsite my neighbors were at was to the right of where I marked (for those familiar with the area).

I’m planning on being on four town and this area starting October fifth for a week love this video
Thanks. Have a great trip. I hope I can get an October trip in.
Was wondering how you cook your fish out there they look good do you bring oil and a fish mix
Yes vegetable oil and shore lunch. 👍
Your UA-cam channel is very good but SEO is not complete on your UA-cam channel. If you complete perfect SEO(Search Engine Optimization) then your channel views will double.
Thanks. I’m not sure what that is but I’ll look into it. Thanks for the heads up
@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur if you wanna we will discuss so send me your what's app number or email
@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur if you wanna i can suggest growing your channel.
wow! thx for all the action shots. . . I'm sure that took a lot of effort.
It was fun to do. Thanks for watching 👍
Got a question. I'm totally not familiar with this type paddling. What does that load (barrel and boat) weigh on portaging?
Barrel is 45 pounds or so and canoe with fishing poles and paddle around 35 pounds. It is a beautiful area. Thanks for watching 👍
You Northfolk have some beautiful country. Awesome video.
Thanks 👍
I always enjoy watching your adventures. I missed this one some how. You've definitely got the walleye fishing down to a science. I also had canoe trip with a buddy a week ago, but did not film it. We went to the South Arm of Knife. Tring to schedule another BWCA trip before Lake Trout season end on Oct. A solo trip I hope to film and have the camera work this time. Great Video, Can't wait for the next one. Mik
Thanks again. I hope you get another trip in before season closes. You ever get your Go Pro issue worked out? I still have a trip I can’t edit and just now got back from another 🤞
@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur I never was able to transfer the video from the Go Pro to my Laptop. Therefore a second trip is a must.
My clips look fine on my laptop and when I preview them in my editing software. Then when I move clip to time line the video changed to an old trip but the audio is right. Haven’t had time or patience to figure it out yet. Hope you get to go and get it on video
Looking at MNDNR test nettings on Lynx, I would not focus my efforts in fishing for bass or walleyes.
I guess I never looked at that lake. I thought I heard it was a good walleye lake. I’ll check it out thanks
@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur The studies are not perfect, but I would say they are representative of what's in there. SMBs are particularly hard to net in studies.
I enjoy watching your videos. I come to Ely every year with my bass boat, first week of June, but I am ready to take it to the next level. Planning a trip into the boundary waters next year. I am not familiar with canoes what brand & model do you have? It looks fairly lightweight and seems to have held up pretty well, for as many trips as you’ve taken. Thanks for your time and any advice would be welcome
Thanks 👍 I have a NorthStar canoe, north winds solo. I love it. I would maybe rent a canoe and any gear you may need to make sure it’s something you enjoy before investing a lot of money. I personally love fishing out of a canoe but it’s not for everyone. If you go on a trip next year, I’d love to hear how it goes. Good luck and thanks again for watching.
Ate lunch at that campsite on a day trip once. I also had a strange encounter coming out of that entry point at night on another trip.
Wonderful video again! Your effort of filming is really appreciated and I always look forward to the next one. I bet Norman was glad you came home early.
Thanks again 👍 yes he was 😃
Oh man, what fell out of your boat at the first portage? A Nalgene bottle? Great video! Thank you for these videos. I've learned a LOT from you before my trip. Again, thank you! Any tips on fishing for Walleye? Since this is my first trip, I'll take any advice you're willing to give.
Ha, yes it was. Luckily it was my first portage and saw it when I came back for my second load. Thanks for watching!
I was just looking at comments and just realized I never answered you fishing tips question. I’m so sorry. Hope your first trip was fun. How did it go? Where did you go?
That area is absolutely beautiful❤
Yes it is. The BWCA is magical place 👍
This is a FANTASTIC video! I'm headed to the BWCA for my first trip in two weeks. I'm spending 11 nights, 12 days out there doing a loop from Sawbill up to Little Sag then down to Cherokee. Around 90 miles. Should be a blast. You have a great setup! Subbed. 1:04:00 WOW!!!!
Thanks 👍 11 nights is awesome. Have a fun and safe trip. Sounds like fun.
A fish fry with wild rice? Mmmm 🤤
👍it’s the best!
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to document this so well. I plan to be heading in on Mudrow 23 next week to camp on Fourtown as well. Looks like conditions are great right now. Thanks again!
Have a fun trip 👍 thanks for watching
Cool video…a bit jealous…old lady here!!
Thanks for watching 👍 glad you enjoyed it
Nice video! I wanted to ask if you're using a fish finder on your canoe? Also wondering what would work best set up wise. Thinking 1/4 oz jig with small bait fish/minnow. What size hooks would you use? Thank you!
Thanks much appreciate 👍 I don’t have a fish finder. I have a real old portable fishfinder from like 2000 that I have but don’t bring. I use 1/8 oz walking weight with a real small split shot to make a Lindy rig with leeches. I’m not sure the size but a small hook floating jig heads or a spinner that has a small hook. Sorry not sure what number of hook. Hope that answered your questions
Did you happen to hear the beautiful call of the whippoorwill on this trip? It’s mesmerizing.
lol that’s only on Ensign lake 👍
WOW, Lots of fish. A beaver for a neighbor. A live morning Loon wake alarm. Sounds rough. What an adventure. Also your cinematography is really great. My first ever solo trip next week. Only 3 days. But I'm just getting my feet wet. Mainly will be targeting Lake Trout and Walleye. I enjoyed this one as always. Btw do just wear hiking boots on the portages and let them get wet and try to dry them in camp? Thanks Mik
Hey thanks👍 I just let my boots/shoes just get wet. I try to let them dry but I know I’m just going to get them wet again. Then I pack camp shoes and socks that stay dry. Enjoy your solo adventure. Can’t wait to see the video. I haven’t had much time to watch UA-cam this summer just so busy going on trips my self and love it. Be safe and have fun
@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur I totally understand regarding my sight. You have kids around it sound like. Heck I have grand kids Hahaha Can't wait for your next one Mik
When you say use the map for fishing do you mean just a map of the lake or the actual depth chart map of the lake
I use just the map. It shows depth contours of some of the lakes. I can use my gps if I try and fish a certain depth. Getting a more detailed lake map would be nicer than the regular maps for navigating. I just get a line in the water and hope for the best. Thanks for watching 👍
Hoping to have that same view in about a month! Thanks
Hope you do 👍 Good luck and have fun
Great video man 👍 thanks for sharing your awesome adventures
Thanks for watching 👍
Beautiful scenery
Great video shots! You captured everything I love about the BWCA, thank you.
Thanks 👍 much appreciated
Hey man great video as always! I wonder if you would be willing to email with me about a couple questions I have for you in regards to your videos?
Hey thanks 👍 Message me on Instagram if you have questions

Very nice trip, thanks for sharing. Good job on the fishing too! I’ve been on around 15 BWCA trips myself, but not recently. Hope to get back in there.
Hey thanks. I hope you do get back to the BWCA. The woods are calling you 👍
Love the speed up sounds! I am going there in 4 weeks so I am excited to watch this. Thanks!
The campsite on Bear trap is nice. Hope you have a fun safe trip. Thanks for watching.
How was your trip? You get the campsite on Bear Trap Lake?
A tip on using double bladed paddle. the object is to keep as much of the blade in the water as possible. You are holding the paddle with the longest point entering the water first. it should be the other way around also the length of a kayak pedal when used for a canoeis usually quite a bit longer than what it looks like you are using. With a longer paddle, you have a more relaxed stroke with less splashing. Usually much drier for the Paddler too.
Yeah I would just grab paddle and go not knowing there was a top and a bottom. I had someone else let me know. I have a 260 cm paddle and I’m not tall. I also don’t get wet. Thanks for the heads up 👍
What is BWCA LIKE GET TOOOOOO FUCK LOOOOSER
Nice 👍 Enjoyed your video
Thanks 👍
I did that loop 35 year's ago, my dad brother and a friend, that portage to gun was a killer i got to carry one aluminum canoe and cooking gear cast iron back then.Damn wish I was still in that kind of shape.
Doing that portage with an aluminum canoe and a pack wouldn’t be fun. When I first started going to the BWCA I would carry my father in laws light weight Grumman which was like 74 pounds. Can’t imagine caring that on that portage. So glad there’s Kevlar canoes now. Thanks again 👍
Great job, seem's like rain has been following you. I had the same issue's in late June at tiger bay, still had a great time.
Rain and wind happens. Glad it didn’t rain all day or anything. Thanks for watching I appreciate it 👍
Great video, nothing better than a good camp fire.
Thanks I love a good fire 🔥 and a beautiful sunset. Thanks for watching 👍
We stayed at that site a few years back and caught bass and walleye right off the tall bank with leeches and slip bobbers. Didn't have much luck fishing on the lake. Enjoying your video.
I should have tried bobber fishing from camp but never did. Thanks for watching 👍 It was a very nice campsite
What brand was that hot tent? Awesome video
FIREHIKING 2-4 person. Got it on Amazon. Thanks 👍
Thank you. I've been looking at hot tents to take up there. I like the triangle shell inside it great design
I thought that was a canoe, but apparently it's a hat!
Yes it really keeps the sun out of my eyes 👍

Another great job filming your adventure, your content and presentation is awesome!
Thanks for the kind words i appreciate it 👍 thanks for watching
We just left Lynx yesterday morning stayed one camp over. We waded through that portage it was waist deep. Did a big loop 24 portages, 22 lakes, 2 rivers, 3 creeks, 5 camps, 7 days. Probably post a video next week.
That’s awesome. You went a long ways it sounds like. Can’t wait to see the video 👍
The campground on Lynx looked cool. Glad you were able to get some fish for dinner in the end. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I was able to have a fish fry 👍
I did the same trip in 1981. Greeted by the take-off of a great blue heron around a bend paddling in. Camped for a few days on an island in Shell Lake (freshwater clams around it), heard a moose swim to the island. Visited Devil's Cascade alone one early morning and was spooked, felt as if I were being watched. (No bear spray back then.) Saw snapping turtles sunning on rocks. Leaving up the Little Indian Sioux into a terrific headwind, I got windburn. Didn't want to leave that beautiful place! Check out Lost Lakes videos for great camping/canoeing/fishing tips. Excellent in every way.
It’s a beautiful area, indeed. Thanks for watching 👍. I’m a big fan of Lost Lakes and I really enjoy his videos. Thanks again
The portages next to the rivers are so beautiful! Amazing how you didn’t fall or stumble on the portage covered in water!
It wasn’t bad. Just wet feet. Thanks for watching 👍
Nothing beats a Sunday afternoon with the common man playing on the tv

@@CommonManCamps-dz6ur oh dear lord I'm a clown for that 😂 but hey now it's Sunday!
Heck yeah. Watch it again 😎

Great videos, last time I was there was in 97. I was watching and thinking if u still see moose there? My dad has a super 8 video in 81 with a cow moose and 2 little ones, so cool. I was only 17 but I remember it like yesterday…. Thanks for bringing back the great memories….
Glad it brought back good memories. I have not been lucky enough to see a moose at this entry point but hope I do. Thanks for watching I appreciate it 👍
Should throw a bobber out in the evening.
Yes you should. Not sure why I never do
🤩🤩🤩🤩😍👍
👍
Great trip. Everything looked beautiful even when it was raining. Loved the view from the cliff on the river. Thanks Common Man!
Thanks 👍
Incredible...once in a lifetime... thankyou
👍
I haven't seen Sandpit Lake since I was 14 on a 3 week VOBS expedition.. that was back in the 20th Century. Thanks for posting this video, sir!
Thanks for watching 👍
Once you were able to get out on the water, you definitely has some fish action. How do you determine when to use your paddle vs your double blade kayak paddle? Nice crappies too. Great Video Mik
I use double blade when traveling and single blade when fishing. I had my double blade paddle gear tide in my canoe because I fished a bit before leaving. So I just used signal blade paddle to make it back to EP
