75-90hp Kahlenberg Oil Engine on the Elsie J
Переглядів 3,5 тис.10 років тому
"The ELSIE J. is a 48 ft. x 13 ft. fishing tug that was built by the Burger Boat Co. in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, in 1945 for Chris Jensen of South Haven, Michigan. The Elsie J. has undergone several changes over the years to include the addition of the pilothouse and modification of the stern for passengers. Chris Jensen began commercially fishing aboard the Elsie J. just after taking delivery of ...

Carb leak fixed! It was missing a gasket and an o-ring. I might be a tiny bit off on the float adjustment. I also took the downtime to install a DID chain.

Leaky carb! Yes, I know I'm missing a float bowl screw...however, that shouldn't cause a carb to leak from the overflow, the front of the carb, and out the slider jet.
Elsie J - To the Rockaway!

Heading out for a SCUBA dive on the Rockaway shipwreck, aboard the 1945 Tug, the Elsie J. I meant to say NORTHWEST of South Haven by the way. Also, I apologize for the unsteady cam. It was not exactly calm seas on Lake Michigan.
Ozzie the tuxedo cat, and his favorite toy
Переглядів 7613 років тому
For some reason, his favorite toy is my bluegill pole with a mini bobber attached. He'll play like this for hours and jump all over the room. If I leave bobbers out, he'll pick them up and carry them all over the house. There's no hook by the way! It is just a bobber.

Maco V58, Diamond F23A, and the Antenna Farm

Maco V5000 (V58), tuned for 10m, about 31 ft off the ground Diamond F23A 2m vertical Homebrew 5-el 2m yagi 40 ft Rohn AX tower It's a work in progress, so bare with me here. In the near future, I plan on putting up a 10-80m dipole (I need to ask my neighbor if I can borrow their tree), and an inverted-L for 160m. I also plan on putting up a 3el 10m yagi on the bottom of the tower. I still need ...
ZS1ZY 10m, 23rd October, failed contact
Переглядів 28113 років тому
Huge pileup! Des, ZS1ZY, from South Africa, would have been a 9136 mile contact if I got it. I sadly, could NOT break the pileup for the life of me. Then again, he's running a horizontal 2 el yagi, and I'm running a 5/8 vertical, so I guess it makes sense. Better luck next time, 73. FT101EE to Maco V58 fed with RG8U coaxial cable. No tuner!

HAM + CB Roof Antenna Tripod Install
Переглядів 20 тис.14 років тому
Finished product of my 3ft roof antenna tripod. Unsure of whether to add another mast (~12 ft total height), then put the Sirio 827 10/11m vertical on top of that (21 ft height). Or add two, maybe three more masts on top (~16-20 ft total height), and guy-wire it.
Yaesu FT270r 2M Handheld

My new Yaesu FT270r 2M handheld radio. Works great! I'm surprised by the clarity, and how LOUD the audio is. It's very compact, durable, and is apparently waterproof for 3 ft / 30 min! Listening to a traffic net on March 5th, 2010, ~9pm, off the Benton Harbor / St. Joesph repeater in Southwest Michigan.

The ugly balun (choke) remains wound around the PVC pipe, search online for ugly balun, prevents feed-line from coupling with the antenna. Keep up the good work Rekindling The Reformation !!

Did you make sure your float doesn't have a leak in it? I have the same carb and can hear a little bit of liquid inside if I shake it just right.

@canttelthetime Yes, they are AM only! The Cobra 148 GTL is AM/SSB. It's quite the opposite here, we're only allowed AM/SSB (4w / 12w) on 26.9 thru 27.4 mhz. Probably about 80% of what's on the airwaves here is AM. I hear you guys have 26.9 through 27.9 mhz? Very cool. Happy dx'ing.

@magicman11964 Hi there, thank you for the comment. I actually upgraded to RG8U about a month after this video. The losses for RG58A/U were much too high on ~28 mhz. Stay tuned, I will have some new videos of my tower up very soon.

@cj691 The mast is vertical, give or take about 5 degrees of lean. I got it almost perfect with a level. The roof top itself is another story. Due to the addition, there's less slant on the south side than the north.

They're very comfortable. Very true though, I'm begin into emergency preparedness...hence why I keep buying radios that are built like tanks!

I'm coming from CB, so I'm trying to get acclamated to the equipment, and listen to whatever I can find on the air so I can get used to the transmission protocol. Once I feel confident with my abilities, I'm going to go take the technician test. Hope to catch you on the airwaves sometime! =)
