I'd been going to Kelly's since 1991 and converted everyone I knew by dragging them there, but the best night I had in there was Molloy's first Harmony when half the Point Inn crowd went on tour to Portrush. Kelly's was flooded with peak Snowballs, and Molloy essentially played his Imagination Is The Key tape live in the Barn and then sold it in the foyer. You could spot all the Point Inn people cause they'd be bouncing around like they were at a Sex Pistols show, while all the Kelly's regulars who were more used to 125bpm vocal House and Progressive were just shuffling around like Brits on an episode of BPM from somewhere in Macclesfield or something People can Sasha and Digweed/Seaman all day if they want, but in 1993 Molloy was doing more interesting things with music (a sniff of poppers on a Snowball and a Penguin with Molloy phasing 2 copies of Capricorn's 20hz for example is testament to that) or perfectly slicing in little rhythmic snippets of the next track randomly that got noticed and raised a cheer among the crowd, and while he played quite a lot of what the UK Progressive DJs played (Hell's Party/Mismoplatico/Tranceillusion/Delta Lady etc), the BPMs were faster and he went more banging towards the end of his sets, cutting out a lot of the commercial crap Sasha and co were playing like Shabba Ranks, Snap and Ce Ce Peniston and the cheesy full vocal tracks they'd play back then. The closet the English had to a Molloy would have been Billy Nasty who played largely instrumental progressive House and cut it up similarly and was a favourite at Sugar Sweet - Molloy outclassed him. And even when the music policy organically got progressively harder and faster with the influx of German Trance at the time, Molloy still outclassed the likes of Sven Vath, DJ Dag or CJ Bolland - listen to his Keep 'er Lit mixtape. Also, say what you like (I'm not a fan of his move to Happy Hardcore in 1994) but Binman was better than Carl Cox. We had our own thing here and for whatever reason (maybe some sort of collective self esteem issue) we traded it in for the English club sound when Lush came along. It might have been a transitionary period when people my age went from full time to part time and the next full time TEAM came up. They got shit pills and 15 min long Trance tunes with schmaltz vocals like Sasha's Be As One. Mitzis were not a patch on Snowballs. Our Raves weren't about lead legs, fighting the smack and club foyers full of bodies lying on the ground, like Shine in Belfast.

Gettin old ! hairs on my body I never used to have are standing up for fuwk sake ! itchy inside my ear !! Never got to Kellys unfortunatly, being from Newry we went to Circus and the Arena. Whata tune but ! 90s slow set ! The Arenas equivalent was Unique II {2} "Loveline", check it out on my channel, XXX MMcM.

The first night I was in kellys was the dj Scott and mc crazy b night. It changed my world. I was only 13. Brillian. The S...The C...The O Double T....the harmony posse are on ecstasy...let's hear ye!!!! Oi oi!!! Big up the kellys MASSIVE!!!

What a fucking top place to spend your early 20s : ) Was posted with 2RGJ in Omagh and used to sneak out of camp every week and drive to kellys with the other scouse party peeps. Happy Days indeed. Pills were pills. Has Any 1 got any vids when DJ Vertigo was on there ? 1991 i think

i realy envy you!! just wasnt old enough,i was there at the dye witness and scooter era!! but any time was good at kellys.a place to dance like f**k and get out of it,it was all about the music!!that is true,we all had love for the music and couldnt wait to get in there!!!!

I agree Ray was a top guy but he pushed that gabba hardcore stuff and drove the crowd away from Kellys. I love trance music, Ray just too hard for me and a lot of the crowd that made up the Harmony nights. As for being the backbone of dance music in Norn Iron, there have been a lot more influentia people than Ray. Still think Simon was a twat.

They certainly were the days, New styles, New music, New Drugs, it was a fuckin revolution, New clubs - Jumpin from one to the other - Kellys - Circus - Tokyos - Charlie Heggarties - One world - Sugar Sweet, but to name a few, nothing lasts forever, just good memories, good friends, pure love and ecstasy!!!

would rather have had Hurley and Molley thatn that twat Sci and Xray. Ray was a sound enough guy but Sci was a tube. Early 90's bt far the best nights I have ever had out - God I miss nights like that. Nobody gave a fuck. Its the reason the peace agreement was signed LOL

Totally right nothing lasts forever as the club scene nowadays is very stale no enthusiaum for the music and scene, im 23 was way to young to be apart of those days. Im into house/techno/trance now but would easily of enjoyed hardcore etc back then.
