Comparison: 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime vs 2024 Ford Escape PHEV
As you may or may not know, the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime is a very popular vehicle. So much so that wait times range from 6 months to a couple of years (depending on region). So if you don’t have the patience to wait for one, is something like the 2024 Ford Escape PHEV a good alternative to the popular Rav4 Prime?
Both crossovers are powered by 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engines. Of the two, it’s the engine in the Toyota that is more powerful with 177 hp & 165 lb-ft (132 kW / 224 Nm). The one in the Escape PHEV produces 163 hp & 155 lb-ft of torque (121 kW / 210 Nm). With the addition of the electric motors, it’s the Toyota once again leading the top trump cards with a system total output of 302 hp (225 kW) while the Ford Escape PHEV produces just 210 hp (156 kW).
Of these two crossover SUVs, the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime has a larger battery at 18.1 kWh. This enables it to drive for a claimed 68 (42 Miles) km on electricity alone. I managed to squeeze 72 km (44 Miles) out of the battery with climate control running at all times. The 2024 Ford Escape PHEV has a smaller 14.4 kWh battery pack which enables it to drive for a claimed 60 km (37 Miles) of electric-only range. In the Ford, I managed 55 km (34 Miles). It was a bit less than the claimed range but I did have to drive on a highway for a while which meant less opportunities to use regenerative braking.

2024 Acura TLX Type-S Review / Much more fun as a Type-S
Переглядів 2,4 тис.День тому
When the current generation Acura TLX was introduced, I didn’t like it very much. I found it comfortable for daily commutes but it didn’t live up to the sporty driving characteristics that modern Acura vehicles are advertised to have. Fast forward a few years and the Acura TLX now has a bunch of Type-S badges on it. So does the addition of a Type-S badge help the TLX like how it did the Integra...

Despite the surge in popularity of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles are thriving more so than ever before. One of the best on the market is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid. But the hybrid powertrain is an expensive option in the CR-V so is an alternative like the 2024 Ford Escape Hybrid a good option? The Honda CR-V Hybrid 2024 is equipped with a 2.0L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine which pr...

Comparison: 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e vs 2024 Volvo XC90 Recharge / Luxury PHEVs
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Місяць тому
The benchmark of family focused, luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs is the 2024 Volvo XC90 Recharge. I previously compared it against the BMW X5 50e (45e as it was known at the time) and while the BMW was the better driving SUV, the XC90 was still a better family SUV. This time around, I’m pitting the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e plug-in hybrid against the yardstick that is the XC90 Recharge. Let’s ...

The 2024 Kia EV9 is an all-electric SUV like no other. Not only is it a proper 3-row “e-SUV”, but it’s also an award winning vehicle. Recently it won the World EV of the Year and World Car of the Year awards. So what makes it so good? Like many other electric vehicles, the Kia EV9 is available with a single motor RWD layout or a dual motor AWD layout. This GT-Line trim is the latter with 379 hp...
Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 SUV Review / This is the Mercedes EQ to get

When I previously reviewed the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, I said that the smart thing to do is to buy the EQE SUV instead. Sure, it’s slightly less powerful and has slightly less range, but it’s available with almost all of the same options and same level of comfort but at a lower price. So now that I have the Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 SUV on demo, was I right? The EQE 500 is powered by two electric mo...

We’ve all heard the jokes. “Buicks are for old people”. But lately, Buick has been designing their vehicles to be more appealing to younger buyers. 2024 Jaguar F-Pace P400 Review / Classy & sporty but for how long?

Jaguar is set to become an all-electric luxury brand before the end of the decade. In 2024, they took a step closer to that goal by discontinuing the F-Type sports car. So with that in mind, is it worth considering an SUV like the 2024 Jaguar F-Pace P400 knowing that one day, it’ll be discontinued as well? The 2024 F-Pace is available with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a supercharged V8, an...

Typical biased review from which Ford has to make the best of. You give the highest possible range for a Ford and then add another 5k miles to it and then give the lowest range for a Toyota! In reality, this Toyota RAV4 can go over 90km in the city purely on battery power!!!

Great review and to the point. I owned a Volvo Xc90 T8 since 2017 and recently drove tested the 2024 Recharge update which while felt a completely different car in the Driving/suspension departments it however felt the same in terms of comfort and practicality departments. Within our household we drive a VW ID3 and had in the past a MB 200e, BMW X1 and BMW 320i. The XC90 was miles ahead with technology in 2017 and is still the familys' favourite. The Kids can spend long hours in it enthusiastically than they do/did in the others, the Bowers and Wilkins is a treat, the air suspension is a bliss and the quiet ride when in EV mode is a bliss. I only wish if Volvo will add some of the features they are bringing in the new EX90 such as 4-wheel steering. fast charging and off course larger battery/milage for 70+ miles range. I would not be thinking of the BMW X 500e

I love Honda, but they're moving on from fun simple cars. Even if they made a new S2000 with ICE, it would likely end up being closer to something like a Z4 type offering with a turbo. If you want simple direct driver feedback for B roads and twisty fun, you're stuck with the AP1/2 options, or going with a Mazda(or if Toyota keeps going the direction they've been headed, Toyota might have something coming up too).

I don’t think the standard TLX is boring at all. I do believe we spend way too much time comparing a performer version to a “regular” version and because of that, people tend to take away the fun factors of the regular version. Is the Type S better? Without a doubt however, I owned a 21 TLX A-SPEC and I loved it. That 4 cylinder turbo charged engine isn’t slow. I now have the 23 TLX Type S and love it even more. I think both versions are great

A quick plug.. I have a '24 aspec and it is absolutely a lot of fun with 0-60 in the 5s plus it has all the handling as the type s but with fog lights not on the S and better gas mileage...all for over $10k less. That said, if you want the 80 more hp, you will pay that premium for the V6. It's all in what your requirements are. Nice review!

Neither thanks - now if it was the choice between a NB MX5 [miata] and R53 cooper s then we'd be talking! As a 64 yr old with dodgy knees I would (and indeed, did) choose the Cooper. I also believe the "rear wheel drive is better" viewpoint is often overstated - a sort of reviewers perceived truth that doesn't stack up in the real world.

I'm getting old = comfort, mpg for travel Rogue. I've always had small sports cars and liked my Rx7 and Miata. I liked driving the Mazda, it felt sporty. After 2 years has that Rogue engine been good? I live in Florida so it would be that new one. Thanks

I'm curious about the reliability of this 3-cylinder engine myself. Later this summer, I have the facelifted Rogue on demo and I'll pop that question in the video. Hopefully some owners of 22+ Rogues with the 3-cyl can shine a light on their experiences with this engine.
