COPING WITH THE DEATH OF A DOG OR A LOVED ONE || From the perspective of an ASPERGERS PARENT
COPING WITH THE DEATH OF A DOG OR A LOVED ONE || From the perspective of an ASPERGERS PARENT
My name is Paul Third and I am diagnosed with high functioning autism spectrum disorder (asperger syndrome, dyspraxia, attention deficit disorder, sensory processing disorder)
Aspergers symptoms in men can be a difficulty in dealing with emotions i.e. in my case, dealing with the death of a pet, close friend, or family member can be extremely stressful especially for those who have autism spectrum disorder. For me losing my border terrier was extremely hard and dealing with emotions can be difficult with those who suffer with aspergers syndrome. I do not like to cry in front of others and i personally prefer to supress emotions as an autistic adult rather than face the mental health issue head on. It was difficult as i have a family of 2 young girls and a wife so there was having to understand their grieving process also which just adds another variable to the melting pot of emotion.

A fellow speaker. Do you think the Dundee dialect is fading away? Are schools trying to promote English? You could also use Dinghy in 'Dinghying a Taxi', which means running away without paying. How would you say Ground? I would say Grund, Groond or Ground'. One of my favourite sayings is when someone asks you did you eat it all? I would say A et it a.

Just found your channel. Listening to you feels like home, one of my 'homes' at least. I spent the last 4 years of school (in a village a 20min drive from Dumfries) and 4 years of University in Scotland (StAndrews), and your accent just brings me right back. I'm autistic as well, by the way, got diagnosed about 2y after leaving Scotland, back in 2006. Loved your Dundonian video, and realized back then I used to use quite a bit of the same slang. Unfortunately spending a single year in Norwich resulted in my Scottish accent just about going away. Then again, I seem to just adopt the accent of the people around me, if I don't know it yet, it usually takes a couple of months, but I'm quite sure, if I spend a week in Scotland, I'd be right back to talking in a Scottish accent. I'm from Germany by the way, and I loved making people guess where I'm from. I heard just about every single English speaking country as a guess, but never Germany. I guess if you don't do the ripping the words apart most German speakers do, people don't realize you could be from Germany. People could never really place my accent, because I just adopted parts of the accents of the people around me, so it was usually a mix of various Scottish accents, which is probably why people wondered where I'm from at some point.

No lie’ I’m born and raise in America atleast 3 generations and then it gets “foggy” with records… but I always struggled with English in public schools in the late 1990’s-…basically now🤷‍♂️ But I’ve noticed I had a stutter when I said certain words that my cheeks and throat were being told “that is wrong” And 20 years later I’ve noticed when I am fully relaxed the Maager blood from a father I’ve never know but is the only connection to this way of speaking: really opened my mind and I appreciate you posting this video for me to find it 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙈

I was in Kirkton when "Dinghys" was first discovered! It started with people claiming they had a rubber ear and could not hear the request for a loan of a tenner or such. " ehh rubber ear"canna hear you. Then" ehh rubber dinghys" would be the reply..then just dinghys was adopted for canny hear you your talking pish. Ha ha

a lot of the Scottish dialects have their roots in Flemish and old English. Scots is a Germanic language in its own right. Doric in the North-east is really similar to this. We would say Da for don't, simmit is vest, sark is a shirt and trousers are breeches.

I lived in Dundee for about a year and a half. As an Austrian native I had quite a hard time with the dialect in the beginning. Buying a ticket on the bus could be quite challenging! Nevertheless, you get used to it quickly at least when it comes to understand it. Talking Dundonian is a completely different game, never managed it execpt for some words like univershity 🙂 Thanks for the wonderful video, it brings back lovely memories from way back in time! Love it!

Dundee avoided the great vowel shift that which changed the vowel sounds in most other dialects. There’s a theory that the Dundee accent is so quick and clipped because of the noise of the jute factories.

American here in the state of IL. Not one person with autism is the same! What jobs maybe right for one person with autism may not be right for another autistic person. I've found disclosing is not always the best route or option. I was fine with my very 1st job as they did know I had autism thanks to my school helping me get and keep that job. Jump to 2023 and I finally after years after not having a job and on SSDI found a job which may work as the supervisor is aware about the agency who's helping me.
