Small Kine Ding Repairs. As the name suggests I primarily repair surfboards. I do contract glass for other shapers at request and build boards myself. This Channel will hopefully store videos I think are worthy of sharing with other people interested in surfboard repair and building.
IM OUT OF HERE
In todays adventures, I click bait you with a grossly deceptive thumbnail and title, answer a question that should've been answered long ago and show you a top secret project I've been keeping from you!

My guy is crazy expensive. That would probably be 400-500
Not a great day for going over the bar but there were a lot of Muppets on boards right out in front of where the boats go out.
I enjoyed the video I learned some more nice work
Epic craftsmanship!
So you have to chuck away those measure cups every time and can you get them cheap enough in bulk or something?
Top top top
Sick mate !
imo the boat could have gone a little more vertical on that
great axe metaphor. the same could be said about the cells in our own bodies…
Do people make yellow surfboard blanks from this particular foam? What type of PU foam are blank manufacturers using to get white foam? Cheers
Totally AGREEEEE....👀Silmar Polyester Resin is 100% BEST!!!!!
First thing i learnt at Jackson Surfboards in Cronulla (15yrs old) way back in 1975/76. Laying a Fin Panel 10'x 3'. Nearly every morning...Then marking out using Fin Templates..Then off to the Band Saw....Next was cleaning out the Dunnies!😂
super gnarly porn. hm i wonder whats in there? repairs gone wild!
Brake fluid naturally attracts moisture. Mechanics dip the pen in and get the percentage of moisture in the fluid. At a certain level, it’s time to bleed the fluid and replace. On motorcycles and scooters it’s usually around 2 years. Cars much longer. Never heard that epoxy resins absorb moisture. How long does that usually take? Same with poly? Or does it just break down?
Ahhh, that's making some sense! We were talking about the EPS absorbing moisture and how long it takes to dry out. Though with that said, poly fibreglass actually does absorb water over long periods of time and isn't "technically" water proof which is an interesting little factoid
@@smallkinedings water absorption depth and drying out might be a fun video idea. Same with all the templates you were given. Show them off!
@@mjchargerSD have definitely planned on a PU vs EPS water absorption video!
Been doing boards with Kiwi Shaper Scottie James from Dunedin...He is such a Craftsman!..And a Fine Surfer Too...Good Stuff you guys.
my next stages these 3 vids ,thank you ,,kez 🤘
Nice, my favoured parts of the process! Enjoy!
catch u live next next time bud , i was out n about,,
No stress at all man, I’ll leave um up so can always be rewatched 🤙
What the F is Thea going to do?
Do you use seperate washes for Polyester and Epoxy?
For the brushes you mean? Good question, I don’t know 😆 I probably would personally as I’d likely have a different brush for epoxy and poly if I were a full time laminator
Amazing!
Chur!!
Good onya...Well Said n Done...I'm an Old Time Glasser.. Unreal what a resume! The coolest thing about all that is that after all these years, you're still watching other people do it on UA-cam for entertainment, which goes to show that it hasn't become ''just a job'' to you after all these years! Thanks for the comment!
Great content. You are really good. One tip I would offer is that you get a decent lapel Microphone to improve the audio. A small detail but it would really help with the echo in your work room. Other than that, 5 stars from Seattle Washington USA.
100% agree, that will be the next youtube purchase for sure! It will help with my editing process as well I think! Appreciate it!
Absolutely love this idea! Done well mate and can’t wait to see it develop!
Many thanks, excited to see where it goes!
Thank you for another stunning Video. And thank you so much for Sharing your experience. Helpful und very pleasing, as usual
Pleasure, thank YOU for watching!
Sooooorrrrrrry hahah cheers and aloha
Chur and aroha!
great stuff, i am fixing a bunch of skis,,, can you tell me what kind of spray paint you where using, and also was that epoxy resin with the 6 ounce, oh and i love that foaming stuff i got to get me some of that
Good times! The spray paint is MOLOTOW paints and yes, although this ski is Poly, I believe I did the whole repair in Epoxy in this case 🤙
Fckn brilliant idea!Well done man! So many good shapers around NZ! Chur and enjoy your travels!
Cheers bro!!
How did you know the question about the black staff was going to be my question haha? Love the video and loving your content cheers mate, big inspiration!
Appreciate it! I have a full video on the black stuff now. It's called ''my subscribers ask the strangest questions''
Heya where do you buy this wax additive thanks 😊
Anywhere you can buy poly resin, should sell you wax additive, also known as ''waxed styrene'' 🤙
such a craftsmen to be able to come up with ideas how to repair, and when something goes wrong still come up with new ideas and in the end come out with a result so accurate
Appreciate that! I think it all boils down to product knowledge at the end of the day! A system of steps is important but without the product knowledge, the steps are hard to work out.

@small kine dings, great content and i enjoy your story telling. I watched this vid this morning on twinzers and the fin explanation is eye opening. Im looking forward to giving one a go. Cheers bro! Manny Caro of Mandala Custom Shapes on the Twinzer and his relationship with Wil Jobson
Cheers Matt! I watched that one just the other day, it was a great little flick. I'll watch it again soon! Definitely get on one ASAP, so fun!

Excellent!
Thank you very much for this video!! Could you please share what kind of grinder you are using, I'm currently hesitating between eccentric and a rotative one....
Hey hey, I'm using an orbital sander, 125 diameter, Mirka Deros 🤙🤙
Sorry lol.. great vids legend 🤙🏼

Hi love your work, I was wondering if you could do a video on all the different ways surfboards are coloured and how to repair them ie under the glass above the glass and resin tints I get confused when repairing boards where to put the colour and worry about adhesion if it’s under the glass anyway just a thought thanks for all the videos
Yes. I can do a video on that for sure! I don't really use tint on repairs myself but lots of people do. I will add that to the list of video ideas for sure!
Just curious what kind of foam did you use?
This was PU foam from an old snapped board
hi there i badly need your help i want to repair my own surfboard. my board got damage same in your video but the problem here is do you have any option aside q - cell? this will be my 1st time repair a board and its my surfboard. i want to learn alot from you but its really hard to find q cell here in out country do you have any options aside q cell? pls help! thanks
If you can buy resin, you should be able to buy qcell or micro balloons. The two are peas in a pod and any resin supplier should have access to micro balloons of some sort 🤙
@@smallkinedings thank you brother !
This was way better than the Bay Watch board video. I enjoyed watching you work on it. I do have a question. Why did you add another coating of fiberglass to the board? Doing so seems like it would make the board so heavy that you can't ride it because it would be too heavy and slow. Is this board only for display and not for surfing?
Hey hey! So I used a 2oz cloth on either side so added 4oz total, plus the fin, plus the resin coats. While the board is not on the light side, it's certainly not so heavy that it cant be surfed. I've had modern backyard shapes come in for repair that weigh more than a resto like this one turns out. That said, this board will probably only be surfed once and then live it's life on the wall
i remember watching this video, ,when i started the restoration of my old board, ,,thank F i also came across your videos too.,
Stoked!
Great vid, I have just adopted an old 8ft PU board that will need alot of love to get her back to health again. It has a large area where it has delaminated on the deck, so I wanted to know what you used to fill that void before re positioning the old glass? it looked different to microbaloon filler.
G'day Toni! I used an exanding PU foam at a 56kg density. The microballoon filler that I used afterwards was just to fill the pin holes in that foam. I do have a video on the foam on my channel 🤙
Hey cool how makes those smaller fins?
Pineline Fins, Papamoa, New Zealand
Amazing knowledge given freely. Bravo
Nope, your invoice is in the mail 😉
Could you use white resin tint in the mixture of the expansive foam?
No sadly, or not that I have found. Any successful tinting I have done to this foam has always been colours that are darker than the original. In order to make this foam white I feel like you'd have to ''bleach it'', removing colour not adding colour... if that makes sense?
