Weird Old Tech
United Kingdom
Приєднався 24 кві 2022
Hello Tech Friends, I'm Paul, and if it's old, not old, weird, not so weird, but definitely tech and not not tech, then this is the channel for you! Quick looks at old items, strange uses for modern kit. A real digital buffet! Everyone has a favourite calculator right?
I didn't mean for this channel to end up being a comedy one, but given how poorly I execute each technological discovery, it's basically ended up that way.
Want to suggest an episode, or just chat about the old tech days...ahh such great days...there's a discord server for this channels chat sub though it's pretty quiet at the moment!

Haynes DIY Retro Radio
Let's build a radio! This is a retro one, not DAB or anything fancy like that, but the radio is on an integrated circuit, so it's just putting a few things together. Lovely. Why not try it yourself?

Addipresto - Adding Machine

Before calculators, but after fingers and toes, this is a lovely example of a mechanical adding machine. If you're interested in this kind of thing, check out Jaap Scherphuis's channel here, there's lots of interesting things like this: www.youtube.com/@jaapsch2
An unusually shaped mouse - The Posturite Penguin
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Рік тому
Mice come in all shapes and sizes, and this one is particularly perculiar! Did you own a Posturite Penguin mouse? Maybe you still do? Also here's a UK specific joke: Why don't Polar Bears eat Penguins? They can't get the wrappers off!

20Q - 20 Questions - Can it read your mind?
Переглядів 908Рік тому
This little device can guess what you're thinking by asking yes or no questions. If it guesses what you're thinking of within 20 questions, then it wins! It brings ancient parlour games up to date! Try and think of something obscure, and you might be surprised at how clever it is. You can try it out online at this classy looking website: www.20q.net/ You could try AI to play it, Alexa, ChatGPT,...
Texas Instruments Avigo 10 - PDA
Переглядів 826Рік тому
1993 brought us many things, Jurassic Park, Doom, my first paper round, and my first Texas Instruments calculator. But none of those are as good, or perhaps the same as, a PDA! An honest to goodness PDA from the kings of calculators! Or is that HP? We'll get to some of those one day. Anyway, enjoy this quick look at the only PDA Texas Instruments ever made. You're going to love it.
Apocalypse Cow - DOS 1996
Переглядів 232Рік тому
It's Cowmageddon! Hurl cow's at each other until they meet mid air, and then beat-em-up your way to victory! Quite the strangest game to be released in 1996, an excellent Python-esque affair!
I made a Word Clock, and so can you!
Переглядів 255Рік тому
There are hundreds of Word Clocks out there, but this one is mine and I made it with my own fair hands. It's pretty straightforward, once you get everything wired up. You can put it in any box or frame you like. If you want the code, I can make a github space for it, it's not exactly elegant, but I'm happy to help! A good fun little DIY project to impress your friends and elderly relatives. Any...
Laser Keyboard - Does it really work?

You're out and about and need a keyboard, don't worry, you can pull this out and dazzle your friends. Literally! It's a brand new way to input text and mouse movement into your computer! Spiritual Warfare - DOS 1993 - A review of a Christian Zelda clone
Переглядів 227Рік тому
This top down Zelda-esque game was way better than it should have been. Throwing fruits, converting people, answering Bible questions, my Mum approved! I'll walk through the whole game in this video, and show off some of its interesting features.
Brain Teacher - Handheld game
Переглядів 92Рік тому
Aren't brains amazing? No, not really, they're just pink mush that can be trained to be super clever using a device like this! Or can they? Probably not. I struggled to answer the most basic questions, and I couldn't even find out how old my brain was. Presume it's the same age as me though. The age of mush!
Crash Cover Tape - February 1990 - ZX Spectrum

Packard Bell Digital Organiser - DB 1280 IR

Let's see what Packard Bell have to offer, up against the greats of the genre: Casio, Psion, Sharp and a classic pen and paper. No instructions for this one, so it's a bit exploratory!
SHARP ZQ-4350 Electronic Organizer

A nice little organizer here with loads of functions from 1996. Calendar, Scheduler (isn't that the same thing?), Anniversary reminder (ok, that's definitely the same thing as a calendar), To Do, Telephone Directory, Memo, Expense, World Clock, Calculator and Converter. But wait, there's more! It's even got a backlight! We have arrived Ladies and Gentleman, this is the future!

please where can I find the instruction manual?
Does the battery only charge when power jack is plugged in?
I have the same, bought use. I do not have any idea how to reset it, especially the password. If you remove both batteries, it is clean but password remains. Any idea how to hard reset it? in the manual I have found nothing on it
I have one, and a NC200.
Built one today but getting one radio station followed every instruction wired up the tuner but cannot work out why the tuner doesn't work this is my first time ever working in is it called electronics even though working with batteries followed the diagram as I turned the pages the placing parts kept moving from one page to another so I went through it again got a crackle then sound then capital radio but the tuner moves and I ve followed every item piece by piece but tuner turns but doesn't scan channels ,any idea please
I absolutely recall spending HOURS/DAYS/WEEKS/MONTHS playing Epic Pinball. I don't suppose you've seen PC Format magazine #30 cover disk on your travels please?
this is awesome! any idea how to turn this in to wireless?
Old video, but new to me. Very nice video, the battery level wont display accurately with rechargeables as it is calibrated to alkalines. Likely had more battery level than it showed.
Looks like Palm OS?..
Just found one of these kits NIB at my local thrift store!
I've broken the ht7030 regulator I've got a transistor set anything that will work instead? Thanks Jack

Should babe come with a speaker and will speak the time
Washing refers to cleaning the flux off the board when you're done. A thermistor is a temp sensitive resistor. As temp changes, the resistance changes. The chip interprets that and outputs the temp number based on the resistance value it's reading
You rushed the important bit i m an ameture at this you seem to know what you are doing show the fix up slowly please
can you also do this with the touchpad, turn it into a mouse?
Weirdly, i have just found one of these whilst looking through my stuff, that i have absolutely no recollection of. I tend to remember just about everything i own, no matter how long ago i bought it. I definitely didn't have it from new as it predates me by quite a few years, but i've always loved tech and retro tech, and over the years of my teens up to now, i have collected quite a lot of stuff. But this was randomly in a box with my PS2 games collection in my attic. I wouldn't have put it there as i like to keep everything organised. The batteries inside were horrendously corroded, so bad that one of the terminals has turned to dust. They aren't batteries i've ever bought and were very old, i know it's a weird claim to make, but i would genuinely remember the particular batteries it had in it, if i put them in. I also wouldn't have left them in. That's why it's weird, if i had bought this at some point, i would have definitely put new batteries in it, or at least taken it apart and cleaned it up, but no. I genuinely don't know where the hell it came from, but it's now a project to get working.
reborn this with antix 32bit
Could you please, please, please do a full play through of mindmaze? I cannot find the sound bytes from that game anywhere and I would love to hear them all again. Every walk through of encarta 94 on youtube cuts off after just a short demo of mindmaze. Thank you :)
Is this possible for you to do for nordic keyboard from a Toshiba T2200SXS? Your keyboard and that one i have has the same layout but just a couple of different key placement.
Nice video. Good times!
Almost 20 years ago I was hired to do an translation job on the spot by a Brazilian guy who was doing business with the Chinese guy. I showed up with my Asus EEE PC and they kind of laughed at me. The Chinese guy was going to present in a hotel in a convention room for about 50 people. He hooked up his laptop and for some reason it didn't work with the projector. Making his trip to Brazil kind of useless. I offered them to use my tiny EEE PC . He put his flash drive in it and made the presentation from my laughable toy. My tiny warrior saved the night. Respect my eee PC.
Most keyboard are already USB. However some are PS/2 (this was much more popular before)
The "Happy Hour" catchphrase appeared at least twice, if not three times, on the 2000-2002 incarnation of the show - the first the answer was given as "Happy Hour", and the second as "Happy Time".
Yeah, that catchphrase scared me on both the DVD and the VHS game.
Hi Paul ( @weirdoldtech ), could you run GetOS on it and retrieve an OS copy? The original sources are lost, even to Wayback machine.
These vids are quite charming. I hope you are doing well and am now waiting for new ones.
Out of all the Crashes I had, I remember this issue the most - Sitting in Primary 7 and with it and waiting to take it home to play. Thanks for Sharing!
Good god I miss and love this man.
There are differences between the SF 7000, some has a serial “PRINT” function, other’s not, and on more modern diary’s Casio wipe out these useful function completely 😢
this is so cool, i had no idea this existed, for me Works was always a Windows program, really interesting
This makes the future 'Classic Bullseye' version look amazing.
How to get usb board
How's this project going, turning the laptop into a Raspberry Pi Laptop? I'm pretty interested to find out how you go as I've always considered doing the same thing.
Ah yes, EeePeeCee
When I was a kid I used to play the hell out of Penguin Racer. It was the best game on there by far
Ghost TV shows was good before this trash then everyone just copied it so all was just people over acting in a room with lights turned out they turned the tv genre into a total joke. How did a show this pointless get 300 episodes.
Works got me through my program at USF, spent many an hour typing papers with the word processor.
Saludos desde Argentina, fue un excelente video, mi intencion es replicarlo pero usando conexion bluetooth y modulos para su recarga usando teclado de las netbook del gobierno, de modo que cada que se dañe el teclado, pueda ser reemplazado por otro.
"High resolution screen" is there a kind of adapter that goes from the older type charge / data cable to a standard USB?
That's exactly right mate. We'd chit chat at the coffee boat and compare out latest PDA and flip phone. Good times!
I am still using mine with linux working as a router with a USB modem, it give me the wifi on the ranch, still on original ssd. Back in the days it was my daily driver as an IT guy, it did all the necessary but the screen could have better resolution to skip connecting it to external monitor... brilliant device
do you know if fax/modem port works?...i want to use it as a test laptop for Fax lines :)
Perfect form factor for me. When they still made something like this
What...It can't be nearly 20 years later...I'm upset now...
