God bless
Whybdo you thick this grill is getting such a bad rep? I'm starting to think some youtubers are paid to hype the mb gravity over this pit.. I've been thinking of grabbing one for a while
i have seen mixed reviews but i have had a good time with this smoker. It has never failed me. It is the only gravity fed smoker i have ever used. If i were to only have one smoker tho i would choose one with no electronics just because electronics always have a chance of failing. My number one choice would be bronco pro. If you get the DLX Tahoma on the OKJ website use code TROKJ20 for 20% off. This code will not work on the Regular Tahoma. it also can be used on any other items on there website.
@rectortj thanks for the reply what's the main difference between the dlx and regular tahoma?
@@klil82 front shelf and a shelf under the smoker. But with the discount you can get the dlx with cover for less than the normal tahoma
Brother, you are one of the people who have most videos about this cooker, I used to have a Ryder DLX 900 and it would trip my breaker as I had to use an extension chord… I think it was due to the heating element in the DLX.. does this one use the same process? Or is it different on this one? Also, how long the chord is?
There is no ignition on this you light the charcoal with a fire starter down in the pull out drawer. The chord could be longer but I have a 50ft extension chord to mine and it has no problem.
I love it because the only tech is the fan and temp.
@@rectortjthank you brother! Will be cooking on one soon then! Good compliment to my bronco
They were out of honey hog so I bought this instead thinking it was a sweet profile. Not at all. It just ok and more on peppery side imo
Ya this could have been named better cause it isn’t sweet.
such a cool smoker but dosnt seem very charcoal efficient i think ill be goin for a drum
if you want efficient drum is the way to go. I love my Bronco. But this thing has so much space.
It is subtle but I like that it allows the smoke to shine
Спасибо за честное видео
Thanks for that tip. I was wondering why my wood was burning so fast and not producing and smoke flavor
Glad this could help!
I couldn’t get the fan to stay on. We ended up cooking the meat in the normal electric oven
Oh man that stinks. Reach out to OKJ and let them know. Was it this way from the start up?
Thanks, good channel, I’m subscribed. What kind of oil did you use, standard Canola?
Thank you so much. Yes just the standard. I use whatever spray oil I have on hand.
Didn't mention the gauge of steel it's made from. Thoughts of how long it would last being outside in the winter. Basically, its durability of years of use.
Very cool info, cheers 🇦🇺
Glad it was helpful! Do you have the Marshal or are you looking to get one?
Have you ever thought of trying the Minion Method with the V-grate on a long smoke? Seems like it might work pretty well.
no i havent and that is because i really only want to start up and warm up my smoker with charcoal then after that i like to just run splits. If im not wanting to play with the fire all day I will use the Bronco or Tahoma. It is a great idea tho for those wanting a long easyer cook on the Longhorn.
I built a UDS years ago and still cook on it and it does great and holds temps great. But being round, it’s hard to get 3 racks of ribs on it unless I cut one. But then again I use a thermometer probe on the grates to give me temps at the grill grate. So room is a big issue for me for certain meats. Would the Marshall be compared to a UDS in the way it cooks and maintain since the heat source is directly below. I do use a baffle plate as well. It’s all the room in the Marshall that caught my eye. But I also cut my teeth on a cheap offset with great results before I built the UDS. Of course the cheap offset was constant baby sitting. But I’m a hands on guy,and it was fun, but it was a bit much. Been thinking on going back to offset as well. Any thoughts between the Marshall or other offset smoker.
@@scottymoore9121 the marshal is like cooking on a UDS as far as that direct heat flavor( I have the bronco and it holds temps from the time I set it until it’s out of fuel) but the marshal doesn’t hold temps like a UDS. if you are a hands on kind of guy this is awesome because you get to play with the fire and add wood chunks as you go and can really control the smoke flavor like you would an off set. I have yet to do a really long cook on the marshal but all the times I have done ribs they have turned out amazing! Reach out to @jonathanbbq because I know he has done several long cooks on the marshal.
@@scottymoore9121 I also love my reverse flow OKJ Longhorn. If I was choosing between the two I would go offset
The quality of the video is great. Those ribs look juicy. Good job.
Thank you. Those ribs were very juicy and tasted so good! Thanks for watching
Do you keep It on sear or smoke when using the pan and water ?
Yes on smoke. Otherwise u will go through lots of water.
Do you keep It on sear or smoke when using the pan and water ?
On smoke
Great video, thanks for this. I was almost ready to recommend this as an affordable smoker option. After watching your video, seeing how difficult it is to keep the temps down for low and slow, this is only good for a charcoal grill.
This is not the best for low and slow but if someone wants to grill most of the time and some times smoke and have tons of space this is the smoker. if they want to smoke most of the time and grill some i would go with a bronco or bronco pro. If you do suggest a OKJ to anyone tell them they can use code TROKJ20 to save 20% on the Oklahoma Joe's Smoker Website.
I’m curious to see how this holds up in humid states, my Masterbuilt is falling victim to the North Carolina humidity
I wouldn’t know I live in a really dry environment. You could reach out to pig farmer Ben on instagram I’m pretty sure he is in a humid environment.
Is anyone else's fron legs wide apart than the back legs... my shelf pan at the bottom isnt wide enough
i have put a few of these together and havent had that problem but reach out to OKJ they are good about making things right.
@@rectortj we did 2 day ago and they sent a new one the same size.... gonna call tomorrow because the front two legs are the problem and the grill has start to dip down about 20°... its so odd
@@ChefReeATL the temp will dip and climb depending on the temp of cooking. it can be 25-50 degree difference.
I just set up the firebox on my Char-Griller offset with a Flying V the other day using a couple of spare grill grates it came with. Looking forward to trying it out. It looks like it should have many of the same advantages as a charcoal basket; namely giving the fire a lot better airflow and mitigating problems with ash build up choking the coal bed on longer smokes.
Yes it’s great for that and also in my opinion better than basket because it keeps the coals nice and tight.
@@rectortjwell, color me impressed! Tried it out with a rack of St. Louis ribs today, using a mix of briquettes, lump and hickory chunks for smoke. It held a steady temp between 250° - 275° for close to 3 hrs on just the initial chimney of coals before I had to add fuel. My hickory chunks lasted longer, too. I only ended up using about 1 per hour on average. And as I hoped, ash was not a problem this time. I should have done this years ago!🔥
@@gabrielbennett5162 that is awesome. I love the v method.
How often do you have to add in the wood chunks into the ash box I’m picking one of these up this weekend and gonna do some smoking Sunday
It’s been about every 30-45 min I wait until the previous one breaks down.
On the grate😢, be nice to your grates
Try the Kingsford charcoal, just light the coal and it will catch quickly
You suck bro.
Same. Not a fan. Not sure what to put it on.
i love gasoline flavored onions❤
Mexican japanese ccook 😂
🌋
I like holy cow and Holy Voodoo but Texas Sugar is their best imo. Everybody hypes the Voodoo but this one is awesome I love it on anything 😆
I have heard so many good things sometimes I think I got a bad batch or something. I may have to get it again to give it another shot.
@@rectortj I definitely would it’s top tier
Since it’s advertised as a smoker/grill, Have you used it as a grill yet?
Yes I have a Tahoma Tomahawk Short video in my shorts feed. It does really good at grilling.
But to be honest most of my grilling I do on Marshal or Bronco.
Nice to u back
Don’t buy anything from Oklahoma Joe’s online. If there is a problem with your order, they will blow you off. Get it from Lowe’s or Home Depot where they make sure the order is right and the customer is happy.
Do not buy anything from Oklahoma Joe’s online. You will regret it. Get it from Lowe’s or Home Depot. Their customer service is terrible. They do not care. Zero concern about correcting any mistakes with your order. Zero follow up.
@@Mag7-q9y I have always had great customer service.
@@rectortj I’m glad it worked out for you. I did not have the same experience. They sent me the wrong item. I called 4 times. Got a case number and a promise that they would follow up in 2 days. No one followed up. I tried again. No response. I was nice about it all. Mistakes happen. They just blew me off. Can’t remember that ever happening with any retailer before. As with any review, it’s one person’s experience.
I have the smoker set on 225 and it's burning at 244. I charred one side of my ribs....Are they not accurate?!
I have found that it runs about 25 degrees hotter for lower temp and 50 if at 275. but if you run a water pan on the main grate then i cook on the second rack. If i have to cook on the main grate then i usually set may temp lower.
did you adjust the 2 vent caps to even out the temps and get the air flow correct. I have the 120 dlx gen 1 and since the pot has the deflectors in the middle both side should be able to dial in to correct the heat and even out the temps.
I close the right all the way and left as open as it can be with out it falling off

@@rectortj🤦🏻♀️ of course
Bro helpful vids but work on your production and editing! And a script. Get to the point faster and stay focused on key takeaways.
You didn't show any results. Isn't the cook the whole point ? Did see how the pork butt turned out. What a waist of my time.
He has the cook on another video. This video was about how long it would run on this setup.
Man I know this is a really short short but you are the first I’ve seen to put the brisket on the top rack on the DLX and the first to put water on a defuser underneath on UA-cam. I don’t know if mine is different but even on smoke at 200 it gets too hot on the bottom rack. You did right. Good job
This is the Rider DLX 900. This method just works so well on the Rider.
Thanks for your videos. Have had my Tahoma for a few weeks now. Working great. Friend has one too and we are working out specific amounts of charcoal for each types of cooks.
That’s awesome I am trying to figure that out also.
Did he say he tastes it at the store off the shelf. WTH
Yes our local BBQ Store has a Taste Test Shelf.
where did you find the pan my 900dlx center in only 18in is yours sitting on top of the side grid ?
amzn.to/3VLFard this is the exact one I’m using and it fits perfect. They also have the deep dish pan that fits also.
@@rectortj thanks ill get 1 ordered today
I have been using a FireBoard controller with my Bronco 4 over 4 years. Not only will it hold perfect temps, it brings up to temp very fast. Another use is when I raise the fire basket for direct grilling, I set the fan to a set speed for consistent, super hot coals.
That’s awesome!
Good review. I am considering one
Thank you. I have loved mine so far.
Did you have a smokey flavor? I didn't see much of a smoke ring on the ribs. Good video.
Yes smoke flavor was good. Not as much as offset but still very good. Thank you.
Very nice man! I can’t find quality beef ribs near me which is strange. I’m here in Alabama you would think it would there would be butcher shops everywhere 😂
Here in Texas they are at the grocery store.
@@rectortj I can find them frozen at the grocery store but they seem to not have a lot of meat on the bone.
Ask that hard work to ruin it with Ragu, SMH.😢
And what are the other 2?
Salt and pepper
Looks good.
