Placido Domingo - Paris 2024
Thursday the 4th of March 2024
Once a year since a while, Placido Domingo stops at the the French capital for spreading his legendary voice in “La Salle Gaveau”.
A rather small theater build in the early 20th century with a capacity 1020 seats .
Who would believe the Maestro would be singing at this day, with of course a less enduring breath , a less volcanic sound but yet he keeps this warm , velvet voice that we know him so well for .
The casting is a success,
Every singer honours there role but the second stare of the evening was Olga Maslova , a Russian dramatic soprano who played Abigaille.
Her strong and stratospheric voice gave her an impressive presence on stage.
The Priest Zaccaria was also stunning.
Interpreted by Marko Mimica , a Croatian Bass with a dark and warm colour yet authoritarian .
When Domingo was the darling of the 70s and 80s, he often mentioned that he would stop singing the day when the crowd would find him rusty . Well at 83 years , this day has not arrived.

It still remains astonishing how this immensely gifted conductor was able to exercise such supreme control over the orchestras he conducted and yet had so little self-control that he gave in so frequently to all his sexual urges and was even prepared to engage in illegality while doing so.
A unique voice with superb musicianship. I was lucky to hear him in opera and concert.
