      @@organicfarmfun9187 so they do ok with the females? I read online that the drakes are mean if they don’t have enough hens per drake. I really want to keep both of my males but I’m not sure if they’ll behave or not 😅

    • @organicfarmfun9187
      @organicfarmfun9187 2 роки тому

      We have 2 hens and 2 drakes. They are paired up by their own choosing. These drakes get along fine with each other so far, but they grew up together and have their pecking order long established. Right now both hens are setting on eggs and I have to keep the drakes away from them because the drakes will distract the hens from their nests. Funny thing is that the drakes will follow the humans around in the absence of the hens. So if I were you I'd give it a try. They will probably fight until one establishes dominance. If they keep fighting or you think one might get injured by the other, then I'd go ahead and keep them separate or re-home one. Like other species, individuals have different temperaments so you might be okay with both but maybe not.

    I love 🥰 my guinea fowl! We live in West Texas. Recently we had to rehome our chickens; due to an unexpected vaccine disability. I kept my guineas because they're so independent! We love the eggs! Do y'all have any advice on nesting boxes for guineas? They've been laying under a shelf with a pallet propped against. Lately I'm only getting 2 eggs; we have 4 laying hens. I have 10 teenage guineas coming up; everyone is free ranging on 15 acres. Due to my new disability I can only get to the barn and back to the house. Any nesting advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! I love your videos!

    • @organicfarmfun9187
      @organicfarmfun9187 2 роки тому

      Hi, guinea fowl much prefer to nest down low on the ground, so the pallet situation sounds ideal. Just make sure they have plenty of straw or other nesting materials. By putting their eggs there, they are telling you that's where they want to nest. Just also make sure they are protected from predators, including snakes, possums, and rats.

      I've started HWP indoors and I had flowers even before I transplanted them outside. I had some good growing peppers (5 or 6) and I went on vacation for 2 weeks, my neighbors took care of them but squirrells ate every pepper but left one. They might have thought that I was stupid enough not to notice! But now I had put tomato stems on which I wrapped a net around. I hope that bees can go and pollinate the new flowers and that the plant receive enough sun now that the plant is a little wrapped.

    How do you get the chicks into the coop. Our Guinea's keep loosing chicks because they have them outside.

    • @organicfarmfun9187
      @organicfarmfun9187 3 роки тому

      You have to herd/chase them in, or catch them with a net. When they are still tiny, you can catch them with your hands if you are fast. We have cats here so our own rule is not to let the chicks/keets (and their mother) run free until they are big enough so the cats will not catch and eat them. This means they have to be in a cage, coop, or "chicken tractor" for quite awhile with their mother before we let them run free during the day. Even then we herd them into the barn or chicken coop at night (along with all our adult birds) to prevent wild predators from taking them. We have foxes, possums, and coyotes here. It's unfortunate you have to keep them caged, but I think that's the only way to be sure they are safe. Once an animal finds them and takes even one, that same animal will come back for more until there are none left. Good luck!

    Hello we might get some rouen ducklings soon next spring, what coop do you recommend for adult ducks (thank you xxx)

    • @organicfarmfun9187
      @organicfarmfun9187 3 роки тому

      Hi, the very most important thing about your coop is that it be sturdy and predator-proof. Weasels, minks, and rats can get through very small holes and spaces and they can "smell" ducks from a long ways off. We keep our chickens and ducks in an old chicken coop that has a cement floor and cinder block base. It doesn't have to have those features but the sturdier it is, the less chance you'll have problems with predators. It might be a fun project to build one - you can probably get some good plans online for this. Good luck! Would love to know how it goes!
