How To Auto Charge Your Home Assistant Kiosk Tablet
How To Auto Charge Your Home Assistant Kiosk Android Tablet
In this follow up video to my video in which I show you how to use an Android Tablet as a Home Assistant Kiosk, I will be showing you how to use a Smart Plug to automatically charge up your Android Tablet Kiosk when the battery level drops to below 20 percent and stop charging the Kiosk when the battery level goes above 80 percent.
If you haven't already seen my initial video on Using An Android Tablet as a Home Assistant Kiosk then the link for this is here:

In this video I am using a Innr Smart Plug model SP242 which works on Zigbee in Home Assistant and will also work with the Innr app but you may also need the Innr Hub if you want it to work over wifi, but with Home Assistant they work without the need for a hub by just talking to Home Assistant over the Zigbee network.
For my Zigbee network I use an SMLight SLZB-06p7 for my Zigbee Network Coordinator, you will also find videos on my channel about the SLZB-06p7.

    I've got a QNAP 133 single 8TB drive that I've set up; however, my WIN10 Pro computer will not allow it to be used to perform backups. I can find the drive using the WIN 10 backup software, but all progress stops there. Do you have any tips on how to proceed. I have been able to create a shared file on the QNAP drive and the PC but haven't figured out how to use it.

    I just found your channel 🙂 I set this up on an Android tablet about a month ago, based on another video. I'm glad I did because my laptop crashed (permanently) a few days ago and the phone screen is too small to do anything significant in HA. I love the Kiosk setup! I have three Android tablets and dedicated one strictly for kiosk browser mode, plus the tablet is LTE, so I don't necessarily need WiFi.

    Hey Tim, this video helped me out greatly, thank you! One thing I wanted to mention for anyone else who might run into this, if Z2M fails to start you may need to add adapter: zstack under the port in the serial config. My Z2M wouldn't start without that.

    I noticed you don't have a firewall rule to drop "invalid traffic" which drops traffic if it has an "invalid" match state. Usually goes after the established and related rule. It seems to be an inconsistent implementation on many of the setup videos on UA-cam (some have it, some don't). Curious your thoughts on if it's needed or not?

    Thank you for this video. You say the NVMe is generally used for cache drives. Setting up a 464 the weekend. I have 2 2 tb NVMe drives I was planning on setting up ( in raid 1) with System Drive and a few apps ( main use is Plex server) After setup will add 2 IWP 16TB drives, wasn’t planning on Raid 1, as I will keep cold media back ups on existing drives and taking off line. Is this a bad set up? How big a volume does the data and app pool need to be on the NVMe? Can I allocate some space on the NVMe. As a cache drive? TIA

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 4 дні тому

      Hey thanks for your comment and you're welcome, for the video. Yes the NVMe is generally for Caching but you can use them for storage if you wish and in a RAID1 if you want. Wow that's some storage you'll be having (16TB) but for Plex I guess you'll need it ;-) I do have mine in RAID 1 though (2 x 4TB spinning drives) which I use for the QNAP OS, Apps and my data, which I'm intending on probably running the OS & Apps from an NVMe (not RAID1) as it can easily be backed up or recovered from the factory default boot image which the QNAP has inside somewhere and which is what it boots from when first starting up, then it downloads the full O/S to run the NAS properly. Personally I've always used RAID for data, even though I do have cold backups like you suggest and which I take offline between backups, so it can't accidentally be accessed for none backup reasons. In fact I just use an external USB NVMe storage for example Kingston XS1000 which I just plug in to the USB 3.2 port on the front and it wizzes through backing up data in no time at all. In answer to your questions: It doesn't sound like a bad setup at all. But I would have RAID1 for data storage, even with cold/offline backups as you don't want to lose all that Plex data/files. From what I can tell the Apps & OS take up about 2GB and that's with basic apps, such as media server (QNAP one) and Hyper Backup and File Sharing, I tend to keep it clean as possible but that's just a personal chose I think you have to, as far as I can tell use the whole NVMe as Cache Storage, I don't think you can split it, Maybe have 2 NVMe's - 1 for Cache and 1 for the OS & Apps. I did in fact try a NVMe slot (1 of them) for Cache storage but to be honest it didn't seem to make much difference with speed of searching for data,/saving data, maybe a very small amount which I felt wasn't worth it. Streaming works well on them even though I'm using spinning drives and I can easily stream 4K content to my TV and I've not noticed it lag or picture breakup. In the end each person has their own thoughts on Cache storage vs NVMe vs spinning disks and what they should and shouldn't be used for. Ideally personall I would like to just have SSD drives instead of spinning disks, when the price comes down some more and then just run the O/S for the QNAP and it's apps from a NVMe, not in RAID for the NVMe but in RAID 1 for the SSD's with all the data on and then keep my external SSD/NVMe/portable drive for regular offline/cold backups of the data SSD's. Hope this helps! Ask away if you need any more advice/suggestions.

      Sometimes the Virgin Media Hub can only be linked to your UDM SE via the VM Hub Port 1 or Port 4, normally only those 2 ports will work. Did you put your UDM SE in the correct WAN connection type ?, make sure you set the UDM SE WAN connection settings correctly to the correct WAN type Are you using the correct IP address on the UDM SE (192 168 0 1) ? I would suggest following my guide again from the very start and do things carefully and slowly and it should work.

    Tim - thank you for this video. Very helpful. Would you happen to know what firewall rules would need to be added to allow vLan access between two sites that are connected through site magic. The RFC1918 block rule is causing some issues. I think a LAN in rule is required for the remote subnets (vlans). Thanks for your help

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 13 днів тому

      You're welcome. Yes I believe you would need a rule which would have to be above the RFC1918 blocking rules and it would be LAN IN rule to allow access to those subnet ranges. However I'm unable to test it as my Unifi network is not currently setup in my lab as I have other devices setup at the moment, give it ago or you could check with a post on the ubiquiti community forum to see if someone has the specific things to write. I currently have some other brand of products in my lab setup so unable to just switch between the two at the moment.

    My question is why dumb a YubiKey down to Authenticator level of security? The former supports the much stronger asymmetric cryptography. The latter is a “shared secret” dumbed-down version, only to be used when the site-server cannot deal with Asymmetric-cryptography as most servers still surprisingly do. But both Microsoft & Google are okay as far as I know. I am not sure about local account for Microsoft. Anything I am missing here? 😊

I liked the GUI of DSM a little more than QTS, but it serves it purpose for all my needs, such as back up for my photos and videos and Plex streaming. You should be able to add 2 security keys with most online services if they are good! Just have a look at each website help to see if you can register 2 security keys. Hope this helps 🙂

    Hmmm... From what I understand, OTP on YubiKey/Authenticator app is for the sites that actually do not support security keys but only authenticator apps for 2FA. It is strange to see a video that suggests not using a security key as a security key precisely on the sites that could use it directly...

    If I understand correctly there would be a password per VLAN or network? Not a password per user?

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 26 днів тому

      Well yes that's correct I guess, it's just the way I explained it, that the password would be per user instead of device. So yes the passwords do of course tie you up to the relevant VLAN, so yes you actually create a password for each VLAN. Hope that makes sense for you now.

    we are now installing one unifi switch. default gateways are in fortigate 60D firewall. thats the plan. but client want to manage switch from new vlan we created. we created vlan and gateway selected third party device. when it is in the vlan 1 network we are able to adopt the switch. but if we are in another vlan say 46 we are not able ot see the unifi switch because swich dont have ip address in that vlan. how to do that? we dont want to enable routing in switch. so i would like to know how we can change the vlan 1 as management ip address or we need to assign one ip for vlan 46? how to do that? can you guide it?

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 Місяць тому

      You need to make sure that your switch has access to both VLAN ID's as it needs to always be able to access the management VLAN ID, you're switch must have a trunk port for it or you can just restrict it to VLANS 1 and say 46. It would really be best if someone could actually get in to the system to check it to make sure the switch has access to VLAN 1 and say 46 which you suggest. From what I understand in your comment if I am reading it right then yes your switch would need access to both VLAN ID's as it must have access to the management VLAN to be able to talk to the controller all the time, so tag it with VLANS 1 and 46. Hope that helps, albeit a little.

      You can connect it via ethernet instead of wifi as it has an RJ45 port. For power you need to make sure that your existing power source meets the power requirements for the Reolink doorbell which you can find in the specs in depth on the Reolink website. Hope that helps.

    Hey, did you notice freezing of the SMLight SLZ 06 (every versions) Coordinator since few weeks ? Looks like there is an issue with the WebUI. It causes freezes of the coordinator after several hours/days (zigbee devices are not reachable, and WebUI is Ko). A reboot of the coordinator makes it work again. They still don’t know if it comes from HA integration, SMLight firmware (core or Zigbee).

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 Місяць тому

      Umm very odd, to be honest I've not had any issues with the coordinator linking to Home Assistant and my smart bulbs (zigbee ones) are working ok with their timers, but I've just literally checked the web interface and it takes ages to load and when it does (partly!) it just puts random text up on the screen after about 5 minutes, so no the web interface does not load properly, very odd! More investigation needed I think and more research! Keep us all updated if you find out anything yourself, would be great thanks 😕👍

      Hey, That's really odd I certainly haven't encountered that issue myself but thinking about what it could be... Have you tried accessing the SLZB web interface page and setting the IP address to static ? Just set it's IP address to what it currently is at the time you're accessing the webpage for it. It might also be something to do with the PoE power it's pulling, make sure your PoE switch has enough power left to power it, check the PoE limit and how much your other devices are using ? Let me know how you get on

    Thank you for this. I am considering buying Grandstream kit for my home setup instead of Unifi and was wondering about their approach to VLAN configuration. I am an industrial wireless network engineer, very familiar with VLANs and networking, and from your explanation, it seems VERY straightforward. Question though, in your vid you had to log into the Router and Switch separately to configure VLANs. Would it be possible to do this same configuration from the central interface in their GWN management platform? Similar to how one would be able to configure all Unifi network devices from a central Unifi controller GUI?

    • @MrTimTech2022
      @MrTimTech2022 Місяць тому

      @Karel, Hey thanks for the feedback and question, yes if you use either the local GWN Manager controller on a local VM/PC or even use GDMS.Cloud (cloud based controller) then you can setup VLANS all in one place, from memory! I should be doing a VLANS setup video in the next few weeks, if you want to wait until I've done that video!
