I Finally Played: Blasphemous 2 (Review)
DISCLAIMER: I'm a devout Blasphemous fanatic, so I've been both excited and apprehensive about picking up my penance again in the lands of Cvstodia. One year later and with fresh DLC arriving, I finally played it for the first time to see if it's still sinfully good in 2024

Good review man
Thanks mate 🙏🏻
I can touch you more lil dude
Team17 wouldn't let Blasphemous 2 be sold in Russia, so the Russian artist resigned from the team. Leaving us with the new style of animation.
I've came to the realization that the new cutscenes style is what make it feel inferior for me ...i Dunno but the good old pixel perfect cutscene of the first game injected so much flavor, a very unique vibe that i can't find in the second game ...also the background are kinda generic ..i don't know , it's a vibe, hard to process but it is about the art style. the game itself is superior in term of gameplay , platforming, build ,boss , responsiveness , it is a clear improvement ..but some of the unique vibe is lost making the first one my favorite despite it being rougher on the edge.
Thats what makes B2 so painful. Its objectively a better game than B1 but subjectively I dont even want to replay it again because It doesnt hit like B1 does for me.
The DLC made this game even better. The platforming in the DLC is nuts I love it
I feel like a paradox has been created: I agree with you that more weapons and magic made Blasphemous 2's combat better, but because of that the bosses have become easier, too. I only felt some challenge in Afilaor and obviously in Eviterno, in the other bosses the game was easy, the combat combinations leave the bosses without many options of defense, as the player learns to exploit his various fighting tools. Still, Blasphemous 2 is a wonderful game, it's just a matter of skill balance for the future games and it's a game that clearly can continue to exist for a Blasphemous 3 and even more. About the art, I also felt the changes and the visual cleanliness of Blasphemous 2 compared to Blasphemous 1, but that didn't bother me. I like it when the same franchise explores different ways to approach the same aesthetic, gives a certain signature to each game
Probably also felt different that the spike and pits dont instantly kill you anymore
You calling yourself a blasphemous fanatic? I have combined 1.5k hours across pc ps4 and switch, saying blasphemous changed my life is not an overstatement. I ditched 3d art for pixel art and listen Carlos Viola almost every day and since I played Blasphemous j went back and finished over a dozen classic metroidvanias which made me fall in live in Castlevania series. I'm currently wearing a hoodie with crisanta and STILL watch blasphemous content on YT. Only one game ever influenced my life and mind before - fallout 2 back in 1998. It took me 3 hours of playing Blasphemous 2 (I paused for pizza and joint) to realise I don't like blasphemous 2 and I won't enjoy it. It feels like imitation and lacks the raw, gritty atmopshere of first one. I don't like vibrant backgrounds, lack of cracks on on walls, statues and people faces. And the worst part of it is - Blasphemous 2 is a top tier metroidvania, certainly one of the best modern games in this genre but it is not a truthful continuation of penitence... Sorrowful be the heart, penitent one.
By "not a truthful continuation of penitence" do you mean that it doesn't make you suffer as much? I agree that B1 indeed had stronger and darker atmosphere of inescapable suffering. But it also literally made players suffer because of bad design choices. Lethal spikes and pits, some poorly balanced enemies, slow-paced character, useless rosary beads and horrible hitboxes on ladders and platforms didn't make the game any better. Weird to see that a fan of original game didn't enjoy such a well-polished and enjoyable sequel. Guess some people do play the game mostly for it's story and lore.
wow I thought my 91 hours of B1 was alot. B1 is def in my top 10 favorites of all time. B2 doesn't even crack favorite 100.
I prefer the first Blasphemous. I still liked the sequel but the original had a very dark ominous tone to its world due to the pixel cut scenes, the big sprite bosses looking disturbing, and atmosphere. Also as a metal head I loved how it had metal bits in some soundtracks. The sequel seemed to stray away for a more beautiful / elegant tone in general. Which is fine but I prefer my dark edgy aesthetic more.
Part 2 is way better
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Please, stop calling RPG elements the fact that you can change defenses and add some abilities and synergies. RPG stands for ROLE PLAYING GAME, just because you can choose your upgrades does not make a game an RPG, you know, like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate. Thank you.
I also felt the heavy change in style and was a bit bummed at first, but then I thought of the context and, I mean. In the first game the world is ruined by the Miracle's doings but it has been 1000 years since you've slain the High Wills (or whaterver their called in gringo) and the world has moved on, only because the Miracle is trying to resurrect the Penitent One is awaken again to this drastically different sight of Cvstodia. But yeah, the cutscenes are a bit of a letdown, just because they stand out so much.
B1 is Plagues of Egypt and overall feels like the Old Testament. B2 is Inferno from Divine Comedy and exudes Renaissance.
the patient gamer? more like the slow gamer
What the fuck is that accent
I first hated Blasphemous 2 because I loved B1 so much, it had so much content, the visual filters too were awesome. So when I played 2 like 2 weeks ago before the dlc released I was hating on it. Didn't like the artstyle change or the feel of combat. Until I started getting the new abilities, especially dash and wow. I love it. After the dlc too even better. Such a special sequel. Needs more content like the first and visual filters like the crtv ones.
The visual filters really changed the tone of the game I loved them, and they have different styles too like 4-5 different filters. I hope BL2 adds these.
U should cover Signalis sometime 🙏
That's been high on my list for a while, watch this space!
calling flamenco mariachi music is definitely something
Meh, details details. Just a whole ocean (about 9020 km) of distance between Spain and Mexico 😆
I literally stopped the video and rewinded to see if I really heard him calling "mariachi" to flamenco. Such disrespect.
I'm trying to imagine Blasphemous 2 with actual Mariachi music now... somewhat different tone!
: there ain't no FUCKIN DUENDE in mariachi
Awesome review. Subbed.
Thanks legend 🙏🏻
1 was good. 2 pushed the bar out. Lore is everything in this game
except that the lore in the sequel sucks. All three endings are dissatisfying and jammed in there. Ironically the "bad" ending could've been the best if it was fleshed out at all.
@@alexanderrobert7084 I think ending c is the best, imo
about executions, They added a lot of new ones in version 2.0. speaking of which, can you do a review on the DLC (Many things were changed and a few zones are expanded)
Which executions were added?
@@drorios8864what i experienced and remember were all the new ennemies, the little pirates crawling with knives, and the witches with the owls. I really didnt see them all i havent even finish the dlc yet

Subbed, great video
Thank you mate!
I think the difference is that 2 focused more on movement and the 'metroidvania' aspect of the gameplay. 1 felt a lot more slower paced. The game felt a lot more 'dark soulsey' so to speak. I always felt 'just' powerful enough to overcome the next section, everything was a challenge. It was just you and your sword. Everything felt 'earned' in 1. 2, for me, lost some of that. The game was a little less tight in terms of that world building and overall I found the game easier on the whole - except for some hard as nails bosses. The individual areas felt less a challenge. However I much preferred the fluidity of movement and the focus on that metroidvania gamestyle. I loved zipping across the screen and chaining abilities together by switching weapons out to overcome challenges and solve puzzles. To go back to Dark Souls - Blasphemous feels similar in that, number 2 doesn't 'feel' like number 1. But I still had a great time with both.
I’ve always thought Bloober Team were right for SH2. As soon as they were announced for the remake I was hyped, and could tell that a lot of the people throwing hate their way hadn’t played Observer.
I'll admit, I was a naysayer after the official announcement but after seeing more of footage and then playing Observer, I was pretty confident they'd nail it
@@7hePatientGamer in all fairness I hadn’t played their other games, aside from a chunk of Layers of Fear - but to me Observer solidified a guarantee of quality for this remake. Either way though, it all ended well!
Awesome and I've subscribed
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I don’t really have anything to add, I had never even heard of Observer before this video, but I’m going to like and comment to help with the algorithm because this is a good video!
Thanks so much mate, means the world!
I feel like they were the best choice here because the writing and story for Silent Hill 2 is already there. So Bloober Team can focus on their strengths and make a really scary unnerving game, like you said. Based on some interviews I've seen, it seems like they know what made SH2 good. They know the other games and they listen to feedback (so much so they changed the intro of the trailer to better match the original). I'm going into it with cautious optimism. While I dont think itll replace the original by any means, I think it'll be a great sidegrade. SH2 was kind of lightning in a bottle and we probably won't see anything quite like it again.
Couldn't agree more mate
Great video🙏I love the mafia franchise wish they would work with rockstar on a new game or something like that, it would be great
Thanks mate, I agree - the Rockstar treatment would be phenomenal. Here's hoping for something similar in The Old Country
