How to change the strap on a Nixon watch. There are a few unusual things about the Nixon watches in this video. I don't know! Sorry I am not able to help, I'm not sure where you would be able to get it.. even in Canada!
That's my favorite combination, going to get 1 in a couple of weeks .
Congrats!!!!!
Definitely not to "helter skelter" lol. This is great info and us hobby folks appreciate the more in depth intricacies of the pieces and techneques, for sure
Thanks so much for the encouragement! Really appreciate it. Colin
Looks good in 2 tone. Looks a bit bare in single tone. I think cos there's nothing at the bottom half of the dial. Could have put some writing or date at the bottom half of the dial.
Yeah, I think you are right it is pretty bare without the two-tone color scheme.
Buy a microphone dude.
Got one last month! Thanks - confirms that getting one was the right thing to do! Cheers Colin
Hello! What screwdriver should I use to remove screws on Citizen eco-drive titanium Attesa H100-T010431 ? Thanks for help!
I don't know! It is very common for caseback screws to be in the 1.4mm, 1.5mm or 1.6mm size though. Even if you have only a 4 piece screwdriver assortment, one of them will definitely be one of the sizes I listed. If in doubt (to confirm before you order screwdrivers) you can always measure the diameter of the screw head with a pair of calipers.
@@watchoffthecuff Thanks for the advice! What is the correct marking for these screwdrivers (TW0-TW6 Tri-Wing)?
Hold it!!! Lol. I just looked this watch up, you are right they are NOT standard screws. The reason is that these radio controlled Citizens are not field serviceable that I know of. Even if you did open it you won't be able to get a replacement capacitor... Is that the issue? I personally have a screwdriver that could probably open this in a specialist screwdriver set, but even for myself if one came in I would advise the customer to send to Citizen.
@@watchoffthecuff I can buy a capacitor. They are sold on open sale and can be ordered from Japan. The problem is how to open this watch? ... ))
@@alexsharov9255 you will be stuck trying to find the correct screwdriver! I'm just lucky that I have one in a crazy set I have (at least I think do, it's three pointed, but may not be the right size!)
Thanks for doing this. I've heard watch reviewers talk about this feature many times, but I always wondered how it worked. You couldn't have made it more clear. Great idea for a video, and great execution.
Thank you, very appreciated! 🙏🏼 Cheers, Colin
Thank you! Got it out.
Brilliant! Glad it helped! Cheers, Colin
Hey, that's my watch! Great job getting it working again Colin. You're absolutely correct, that watch has been stashed away, unused for several years. I received it as a gift almost 20 years ago and it got lost in the back of a drawer when I started wearing a fitness tracker. I've recently gone back to wearing a proper watch - in fact I got this awesome Jakob Eitan 41mm Sport Watch with Blue Dial for Christmas, which I love.
Thanks for watching!!!!! 🙏 Cheers, Colin
Tiene la corona dura, que se puede hacer? No inglish lenguaje,un español
What do I do if the inner part won’t close?
These bracelets are not infinitely adjustable, they are designed to be indexed at intervals, meaning the clasp will only close every 5 to 7 mm or so along the length of the band. Move the clasp either slightly one way or the other and the inner part will all of a sudden be able to close. There are often indents in the bracelet band that allows it to close the right way, but they are subtle and you won't notice them unless you look for them!
This might sound kinda silly but can you make a short video on how to properly clean the crystal before installing it? Also, any recommendations on what cleaning solutions and cloths to use would also be great. I've looked around everywhere and can't find anyone who walks thru cleaning a crystal.
Yes, let me see if I can make a short video very soon!
Awesome!
why the 38 is more expensive though ? I mean the 41 has the date day too ... I don't understand
That's interesting, I don't know either.... I haven't been following the Tudor pricing for a while now.
I have a question please. After screwing the back on, it still needs to be pressed in? Thank you.
Watch cases made either one way or the other, it is either a screw back or a press fit. If you have screwed on a case back and it looks like it still needs to be pressed in something is not right! You may have cross threaded it or it is sitting correctly in the watch case, best to unscrew the caseback and carefully try again! Cheers, Colin
@@watchoffthecuff Thanks for taking time to respond. Much appreciated. So the final press @14:50 is to press the bezel in?
Oh I see. No, it is a fancy caseback opening tool for screw back cases. I am not "pressing" it together, the tool is actually rotating the caseback to close it, although I press down it is only so the two teeth of the rotating portion of the tool securely engages with the notches in the caseback!
@ Got it. Thank you so much for your kind attention. 👍👍
Tene todas las herramientas.
I'm trying to have all the tools! Thanks! Colin
Enjoyed your - just dive in and try it attitude. I agree you might want to use a softer metal like brass to first start out on, and reduce the amount of material sticking out of the collet to reduce chatter. You might also want to check out a video by the late W.R. Smith called graver making and hand turning. Lastly, the burnishing tool is meant to harden and polish the material, like when you are polishing pivots on a clock. Instead, you could use a regular file if you just wanted to smooth out the end to get rid of the nib. Bravo for your bravery, that is how you learn!
Thank you for the nice feedback. I think just about every other video I have done has been after I have mastered something and done it sometimes hundreds of times already for customers. I will check out the W.R. Smith video! Great advice - I do think in retrospect that the steel I used was hardened, so I will either soften it first, or more likely do exactly as you suggest use brass... I also have some unhardened steel that I used to make a pair of hand levers. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and for seeing the video in the light that it was intended - to show people that some of this stuff is difficult and that there is a process of trial and error, disappointments and triumphs! I will have to do a part 3 showing me taking your advice and getting better results. (well HOPEFULLY better results) Thank you! Colin
"very well, keep your secrets" -Frodo Baggins
What can I get away with for just the push button springs on a Casio G-Shock GAB2100, and then just lubing the screw down crown threads on a Steeldive SD1994? This stuff is expensive. Will I need a spreadable grease or can I use something else? Moebius 8000 seems to be the cheapest. Thanks for any help. Cheers
I think I show it in this video... Try and find silicon 7 grease for watchmakers. It is quite thick and won't run and migrate to other parts. I think I show some in another video about greasing gaskets as well. Are you in Canada? If so I can see about sourcing some, it's probably time I added this to my store anyway. I do currently sell a gasket greaser that uses silicon 7 in my store.
Thanks for posting this. I've owned my Seiko SSC015P1 since I purchased it new 7 years ago, and I already need to replace my capacitor for the second time. It's very frustrating, as I expected better from Seiko.
You are welcome! I wonder why it isn't charging very well and/or the caps are lasting? Very interesting... And annoying!
thanks helped a lot!!
I'm thrilled you found it helpful! Thanks!
Wow, I didn’t realise it was this simple. I have a neat little pocket tool for adjusting pins and spring bars which I can keep with me.
Nice!
You. Are. The man!
Hahaha, thank you very much. 🙏
Sir. What the battery no. Pls. Tnu u
I think this one was a CR10125. I can't confirm as I don't have the watch in my shop anymore, I made this video a long time ago! Cheers, Colin
I bought something that works like the Bergeon, but it is better (I do have both). I got it from a store called DN DN Watch Strap Store (if you search that phrase inside quotes you will find the store. I collect coupons from the store itself, and from the sales platform site, and from 'coins' I had. add to that I have a cashback account that gives over 6% back on purchases made at that site, and I got almost 40% off. The net price was about $70 (including shipping) plus Tax (in my country that is 20%, but it means no customs delays so delivery is about a week).
Thank you very much, sir; your video was extremely helpful 😊
You are very welcome! I'm glad it was helpful! Cheers, Colin
Hi, Nice video and great, Better to put under the lathe metal sheet and under the metal but rubbur or sport mat sheet same metal size to avoid the vibration. All the best
Great idea! Thank you!
Oh Mann! So viel Gequatsche! Einfach mal machen! Du tust mit deinem weißen Kittel so, als wärest du ein Uhrmacher. Und dann weißt du nicht mal wie man mit dem Handstichel umgeht?
Great advice thank you! You are right I was probably not doing myself any favours by being hesitant! Thanks! Cheers, Colin
Seems very hard material. No rod of brass to test on? Thanks for the csmera work.
Yes, I do have some brass stock... But I had lots and LOTS of steel stock, so I didn't feel like I was wasting anything. Looking back that was a mistake. I will have to try again with some brass stock! Stay tuned! Hahaha
Too much stick out on the part is causing it to flex and make your tool slip under the part. You should be working right up close to the collet. Something isn't right with your tool or that rod is super hard. You should be removing way more material with way less force than it appears you are using.
Thank you! I will choke up on the collet to remove flex! Great, great advice. The rod may be pre-hardened as it was bought as pivot wire, but it seems not right to have the pivot wire pre-hardened so to make it difficult to work on. As always, thanks for the insight and great advice! Appreciate the help, it's always a risk to just "put it out there", you can get backlash instead of support! Anyway, can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice! Cheers, Colin
@@watchoffthecuff Glad to try and help. Yeah, I'm not sure how hard that pivot wire is. I'm leaning toward the graver being soft. Maybe he only used the graver on brass. I'll second what the other person said. Get some brass to practice on. You can refine your tool sharpening/shaping techniques because just about anything will cut the brass. Then maybe get a known quality graver for going back to steel.
Again, great, great advice, I will order a new graver ASAP!
Thank god...music that doesn't sound like a drowning baby
Hahahaha. Right on!
Very insightful. Looking forward what the turning will look like.
Yes! Me too. Trying to decide on a practical first project to attempt on this thing! Super Pumped! Lol
I never comment on videos but thanks so much man, i bought a bad watch from China but I really liked it and I could only remove 2 pins, I was wondering what the 6 holes where so I researched and this video is such a life saver🤩
Amazing! Super glad it helped you out! Cheers, Colin
Nice, but mad price. Typical Bergeon!
Sooooo true!
Two things I thought I would mention. I don't know about this specific lathe, but many machine tools are supposed to have wicks(felt) in the oil cup. They are there to slowly release the oil onto the bearing surface instead of it just running out through the tolerances. It looks like this is what you removed from the one oil cup missing the cap. You may want to get new ones and re-install. If heat joining the belt doesn't work you can use regular CA glue, but I have had the best luck with Loctite 438. It stays flexible and will last where regular CA is stiff and brittle.
Amazing, thank you so much for the info. I originally thought that the felt like stuff that was in the oiler was there just ot keep dust and debris from getting in there (since the oiler cover was broken) - I think you are right, the previous owner was probably using it as a wick! Brilliant and thanks for the info! Also, THANK YOU for the suggestion to use glue instead of trying to melt the ends together - of course! - makes perfect sense. The Loctite 438 is a great tip also - I will use that when I'm ready to fit the new belt. Cant thank you enough for the comments and insight! - Super helpful!!!!!
i luv u bro, thnk u so much, it wrked so well : )
Awesome!!!!!!
When you press in acrylic crystals, do you use beveled or straight edge dies if there is no tension ring? Thanks, and thanks for the video.
I use a Bergeon 6400 crystal lift for acrylic crystals, and have used it with both types, tension ring or no tension ring. I did a video showing it a while back, but the video did have some focus issues and a lot of it is blurry! ua-cam.com/video/pjHlBZFUDQ0/v-deo.htmlsi=VMMdBGu5FvWXfFbN
Thank you that was very helpful!
I'm thrilled! So glad it helped! Cheers, Colin
Used this to adjust the hands on a quartz Fortis. Love you!
Glad it helped!!!!!
Really looking forward to videos from the lathe in use! (And other videos about specific watch repair tasks). Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I am so excited to get this lathe up and running!!!! Lol. Probably the number one thing from the equipment side of things that I'm looking forward to right now.
I have no problem believing you. An 8mm is number 1 on my tool wishlist as amateur repairer. Fantastic you found one in the wild! Always nice to see video's how you clean him up and hook up the engine etc. Very useful for when we hit the jackpot 😜
Thanks for doing this video ! Super helpful
You are welcome! Cheers, Colin
Are there any budget crystal presses that you would recommend for a first timer? I am building my dream gen 1 orange seiko monster and trying to replace the scratched original with another original replacement?
This one: watchoffthecuff.com/products/economy-crystal-and-case-press The press itself is cheap, but the dies are really good, can be used in other standard presses if you upgrade later, also the die set has a great range of sizes.
Thank you for this video! Will be trying this soon
Awesome! Good luck! Cheers, Colin
What's the regular width of these glasses?
There is no standard, they are all over the place!
So where does one buy a new quartz movement? Certainly, there must be many different models and types... How would a person determine exactly what to buy, and where would they buy it? 🤔
There are a number of movement sellers in North American and Europe. Once you get the calibre number off the movement (essentially the part number) you also usually for a quartz movement need to remove the dial and hands and measure the hour wheel (gear that connects to the hour hand), so you can purchase the correct height for the hands. They do this to accommodate different dial thicknesses.
Thank you was easy 😍 and more better now 🎉
Awesome!
Saved me as well! Cheers!
Thx! Mine flew across room but found it! 😂
Oh good! Sometimes they fly away and are gone forever! Lol
Battery size ?
The battery is a 321, I use the Renata brand in my shop. Cheers! Colin
Can't believe no one left a "handwatch" comment.
