well it's a bit too fast. Was Chita Rivera even trying to do a British accent?
Thank you for downloading the original! Bring back great memories💗
Mabel King was a *TRUMPH!!!* She played both Evilene in the broadway musical *AND* the Universal Picture!!
Such a beautiful song..
My high school did this fifty years ago. I remember it still, learned most of the songs.
Iconic Broadway Show and Cast
GLORY TO PROJECT MOOOOON
I remember this song from when Suga Mama sang it on Proud Family 🤣🤣🤣 brought it to a whole new generation of youth.

I love The Wiz, but what is UP with that original Broadway logo?! How can anyone look at that and think "The Wizard Of Oz"?!
I don't under that either. The poster for the movie version or the NBC version you can clearly tell it's based on The Wizard of Oz.
My theme song
I saw her just again a few years ago in a jazz nightclub in Indianapolis. Her entire evening was truly wonderful. She has had a long career, but still continues to please her public so very well. Keep at it, Dee Dee!
This sounds like a gospel song.
Fun fact this was the Mamma on Whats Happening. 💯 Mable somebody was her name. Mable King I think. Another fun fact, this was black exploitation and it was a smash on Broadway but the big screen was a flop. Reason being , Barry Gordy replaced 17 year old abd much better singer Stephanie Mills with 31 year old Diana Ross. Thought he could make it up with Michael Jackson as tge Scarecrow byt people boycotted and the movie production lost 13 million. Dont ever cross Broadway. Big execs in Manhattan pay very good money for Broadway stage plays. Hell they pay a hundred dollars to shine their shoes.thsts the one place were Million and billionaires are on the same block with the homeless and drug addicts. Many of the homeless are people with talent who came to make it in the greatest city on Earth. New York City.
Mabel King!
lol i am doing this for the tallent show this year in 4th grade!
Chaka khan
You better watch the way you phrase the words! Give me a chance to toot!
Performed this song with my best friend at thespian festival. Still one of my favorite memories of all time
I have heard Richard Kiley, Colm Wilkinson, and Peter 'O Toole's versions but how in the WORLD did I miss this casting with Brian Stokes Mitchell?! I love hearing this guy sing! This is probably one of my favorite castings!
I really like the choice of Sancho, here. Most versions cast someone who sings his part like a big dolt. This one hits the sweet spot of unrefined singing that's fun to listen to.
@@nateschultz8973Ernie Sabella was a good choice. I only knew him as the voice of Pumbaa from The Lion King (1994) until I heard him sing in this musical.
Don’t you ever bring me bring me bring me…
I remember watching the movie for the first time in 2008 when i was like 15. I was up late trying to fix my art course work cause someone spilled coffee on it, and i absolutely loved it. I recently discovered Hinton Battle was in the original cast of the show so naturally i had to come check it out, and yeah this is incredible should've checked it out allot sooner.
Hear me, heathens and wizards And serpents of sin - All your dastardly doings are past! For a holy endeavour is now to begin And virtue shall triumph at last! You could tell me Dio wrote this and I'd believe it. I've seen this in theater and love all versions of this song.
You know what? Ronnie James Dio could have had an amazing opera career.
Love this song from The Wiz. Believe Bridgewater was channeling Sarah Vaughn in this performance. But I believe it was Lena Horne who performed it the best in the movie version. However I still wonder if The Devine One ever performed the song, and if not why.
You have GREAT musical ears........DEE DEE does sound like Sarah.......WOW !!!!
If you believe Within your heart you'll know That no one can change The path that you must go Believe what you feel And know you're right because The time will come around When you say it's yours Believe that you can go home Believe you can float on air Then click your heels three times If you believe Then you'll be there Believe in yourself Right from the start Believe in the magic That's inside your heart Believe all these things Not because I told you to But believe in yourself If you believe in yourself Just believe in yourself As I believe in you
This kind of reminds me of Ragtime Prologue
Miss Mabel King. Very good actress and strong singer. What's Happening was a good show. I heard the costume in Wiz 1978 weighed over 50 lbs. And it took painstaking hours to put the makeup and hair.
This is formidable! I would put this as one of the best!
I learned all the songs from this musical in 9th grade and it actual lead me to read Don Quixote. I should have stuck to the music!
Im here from izombie
I can sing this song. It is such FUN to sing. (4/16/21)
The wiz came out the same year that my mother was born
I need to start playing this song every morning.
Or even every afternoon, if it pleases you to wake up then.
TIMMY CLEARY!!
this song is a bop
I heard this first when I was first eleven on on eight tract crossing the desert from CA going west, the only way to go.
Happy 45th Anniversary to The Wiz!!! Celebrating 45 year anniversary this week! Check out a great story about the night Stephanie got sick! showbizstories.com/story/a-broadway-understudys-dream-come-true/
Izombie 3x04 brought me
Scuse me, gotta liberate a zombie hooker right now.
the piano in this rendition beats out every other version of this song tbh even if its not quite as high energy

EVERYONE! On your horses! We follow this man!
Quantum Leap!
Listening to this makes me sad cause people really don’t sing or perform like this anymore. Mabel king was gone too soon. I was always infatuated with her my dad introduced me to her in the show with Re Run.

Yeah Mabel King was a queen! We need more people like her. Unfortunately they're all gone Della Reese, Nell Carter, Cicily Tyson, Aretha Franklin, and Esther Rolle....damn all have passed on.
For many years, I thought he rode a donkey, because his name was 'Donkey Hôté'. 🤣
Come from izombie 😂
YOU GO DEE DEE!
These words were meant to come out of Trump's mouth -
Oh shut up!
I think our friend Andrew has a crush.
I can't help but imagine Geralt of Rivia as Don Quixote and Jaskier as Sancho singing this song xD
