I bought this Hario. I don't have my grinder yet so using Folger for now. It's great but I am used to at least 1 more ounce in my cup. Overall, a great choice.

i just rinse the paper to heat up and "clean" the karaf. like i always put the v60 with filter on top of it when i put the water to boil and start to grind the coffee

Using your method with my current Java Planet Guatemala Organic medium roasted beans, I find I get a better cup of coffee than just using a bloom pour-through stage and then immersion. Thank you. I've learned that water temperature is more important than I previously realized. As you suggest, I think 92-93 degrees is usually about right for my medium roasted beans. For most dark roasted beans I need to go even lower to avoid excessive bitterness.

love my hario switch v60 maximizing the full potential of every coffee beans by utilizing its dual brewing method. and im not suggesting this for the beginners for it needs a lot of tools and attention to details to be able to use it properly.

Lately I have been using the copper plated Kalita Wave for the most part and have been enjoying medium roasts more than dark roasts with it. I also have the ceramic 155 Wave. I think it gives better results but I like to brew more coffee than that. All that said, I am probably going to go back to French Press as I can make a lot of coffee and get, in my opinion, better results.

I stopped rinsing, but I also only use a Clever Dripper with Cafec Abaca filters. If I were doing pourover still, I'd probably just rinse to help it adhere to the dripper.

I've been doing pour over for about two months now and am looking to upgrade to a better dripper. With your help I've leaning toward a Kalita. You recommend the stainless steel over the ceramic. Is that mostly for durability? Once I get my skill level maximized will both drippers produce the same tasting coffee? Thanks for your videos, they have been a great help! I'm a new subscriber, please keep making more coffee videos!

I ended up finding really good deals on the Kalita ceramic wave and the brass Kalita wave. The heat retention difference is quite pronounced, just like you said. I like the coffee that I'm getting from both brewers but I think the ceramic Wave yields smoother, richer coffee. Thanks again for your help!

I believe ceramic is a better conductor of heat than plastic and therefore not retain heat as well as a plastic dripper, although I'm pretty dumb so i could very well be wrong. Also i personally don't like using plastic with boiling water so I would still use the ceramic one.

Taste can be very subjective, and what might seem indistinguishable to one person could be quite distinct to another. It's not about rocket science, but rather about personal preference and individual sensitivity to flavors. Plus, a lot of the enjoyment comes from the overall experience and the context in which something is tasted.

I stir within the paper filter on my Technivorm Moccamaster. The arm that extends over the grinds is in the middle over the basket. Supposedly, it is a good idea to stir the grinds with the water. The manufacturer feels that this is not necessary, but I find it hard to believe that this exercise does not help with the saturation of all of the coffee grinds.

Try a hemp, or hemp/cotton blend filter. They're VERY fast and you can grind much finer & maintain a fast draw-down. I want my coffee grounds to control flow, not the filter medium, nor the dripper. I've been using this type of filter for years and they yield a very flavourful cup with increased mouth feel. No problems with sediment in the cup either. Brew more.
