Transforming Food Systems: Healthy Diets for People and Planet
with Irene Fabricci, Marie Mauer and Kaja Zapȩdowska-Kling from the Horizon Europe project FEAST
FEAST aims to catalyze the transition to a healthy and sustainable food system. The project’s mission is to make it easy for every person in Europe to eat a delicious, healthier and more sustainable diet. FEAST includes 12 Living Labs that co-create and test innovative solutions to tackle challenges at the intersection of food and health. Starting from a focus on vulnerable groups, Living Labs work with the double goal of transforming behaviour and shaping food environments.
In the webinar, you are introduced to the project, its overarching goals and its approaches. You then delve deeper into the work of the two Living Labs in Lodz (Poland) and Leuven (Belgium).
About the Speakers:
Irene Fabricci is Sustainable Food Systems Expert at ICLEI Europe, the European Secretariat of the world’s leading network of local and regional governments committed to sustainable development. The Food team at ICLEI Europe is involved in more than 10 Horizon Europe food projects, including FEAST, where it coordinates the collaboration of the 12 FEAST Living Labs. During the webinar, Irene gives an introduction to the project.
Marie Mauer is project manager for the FEAST Living Lab in Leuven and coordinates the Tech Living Labs within the FEAST project. She works for Leuven 2030, an organization that is one of the driving forces towards a climate neutral Leuven in 2030. Leuven has been selected as one of the EU mission cities.
In the Leuven Living Lab, together with KU Leuven, Leuven2030 works on enhancing healthier and more sustainable dietary habits for everyone with a focus on social and economic vulnerable groups and particularly adolescents. They do this by bringing stakeholders together that work with vulnerable groups and food and investigating what role digital tools can play in creating more collective action around food. They also look at how food habits can be influenced by persuasive communication using social media.
Kaja Zapȩdowska-Kling is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, University of Lodz. Her research expertise focuses on public policies, social policies and particularly senior policies. Since 2022, Kaja is involved in FEAST Horizon Europe research project, responsible for coordinating the activities of the Living Lab in Lodz (Senior-WIGOR Day Care Centre). The Lodz Living Lab has set up an intervention in a senior home that looks at the health of elderly people through a holistic perspective. The Living Lab combined workshops on healthy eating and the nutritional needs of people over 60, with the design and construction of an elevated garden bed on which people with limited mobility can engage in gardening, as well as other activities such as yoga classes and intergenerational meetings.
