How did you strap your VP4 to the Temple Audio pedalboard? Was it velcro or something else?
I am using the temple audio quick attach plates. They essentially use double-sided tape (strong stuff), and then mount with a screw on the backside of the board.
When I try to do this all I’m getting is a high pitched ringing, do you know what may be causing that?
I would start out by checking your input and output configuration in the plugin. Then check to make sure you don't have any input monitoring enabled on the computer.
Thanks again Gary for the knowledge you share. much appreciated my friend
🙏🏻🙏🏻thank you so much! Happy holidays!
@@GaryWrightMusic Same to you my friend
Thanks!
I know it's not much, but just wanted to send something. you info to me is priceless
Do the cables from output 2r to amp in and from loadbox balanced out to capture input must to be TRS or can they be normal guitar jack cables? Thank you.
They can be normal instrument cables. Each channel is mono l/r respective.
Great 👌 👍 🏴
Thank you!

Thanks for the informative video!
Glad it was helpful! Happy holidays!
Thank you for this. Do you also have a tutorial on how to load new IRs in it? I am new to this and wanna try new IR cabs. Thank you
Sorry, I don't have a specific video that covers adding ir's. You add them via the Cortex cloud, which I do have a video that covers using it in this place list. You log into the neuraldsp.com/cloud/ , login with your account and upload IR wav capture files. Then log into the cortex phone app and download the IRs you uploaded. Hope this helps!
@ amazing. Thank you so much for this!
I know that Reaper writes latency for input and output. Is there any feature like that on your daw? And what numbers are there if you choose nano cortex for input and output? Thanks.
Hello! There is only a 1-2ms latency when using the device as an audio interface. The Nano Cortex has 4 inputs and 3 outputs.
It's very strange to hear that cause 1k$+ audio interfaces has round time latency (rtl) 3-5ms. And audio interfaces in that price range has 7-10ms rtl From other tests, the latency of nanocortex itself(effecs processing ) starts from 2,5ms.
Rtl - full latency if you use device for input and output at the same time
Great stuff Gary !!!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with this one.
I have the Nano Cortex and now I need the VP4 !!
The effects just sound sooooo good! In my opinion, the reverb engine in the fractal space rivals Eventide. While still being fantastic with most every other style pedal!
I have Kemper player. How I connect to work with VP4 bro?? Pls suggest me
This should be the same as the Nano Cortex. Instrument -> KPP Input -> KPP L/R TS Output -> VP4 L/R TS Input
@@GaryWrightMusicthank you for your answer 😊
I just bought the m-vave chocolate and it actually works wonders!! But I have a problem that I can't solve: the chocolate has 8 banks with 4 buttons each, so I can only assign one switch for the first 32 presets of the NC. Does anyone have the solution to be able to load the remaining 32? Thank you.
You should be able to access any preset slots from PC 0-63. Are you only able to assign the first half 0-31?
That's right, it reaches switch 8D and returns to 1A. If anyone could help me solve it I would appreciate it.
Looking around for a modeller mainly qc and fm9. Leaning towards the qc coz i just recently bought a gojira and nolly plug and loving the transpose function esp i only have 1 6 string guitar in drop C but wanting to tranpose to drop A or lower
Nice! I don't believe you can go wrong with either. I have been demoing the axe fx III and FM3 the last few weeks, and they are extremely capable as well! Let me know if you have any questions I can help with.
@@GaryWrightMusic how do you like how they sound? Have read that the fractals sound better and the qc is a but generic but i really like the size of the qc that i can just place on my desk. If money wasnt an issue i’d really like the axe fx3 mkii but that’s a bit too expensive already 🤣
It's hard to describe. Neurals plugins sound and feel amazing. The official Neural captures on the QC sound great, though some of the effects have been lackluster (in sound quality and configuration). The last point has gotten better with updates, but still not quite there for me. The captures vary greatly. In most cases, I feel these captures are lacking some of the dynamics of the A/B play of the real thing. Some sound incredible. This is true of most modeler captures of all brands. End of the day, I think Fractal has been at it for a long time. They have continued to improve their offerings, and have upped the quality, especially in the effects department. You really should try an fm3 vs Cortex family and see how you feel. There are pros and cons in both camps, one major one being learning curve on fractal products (especially the interface) vs the more user friendly of the Neural camp.
Was wondering what audio quality is better using usb into daw or 1/4 out into an audio interface to your daw? Seem if you keep it digital into the daw it would be cleaner and more quiet
USB audio interface to your DAW. This gives you less potential for noise, and the ability to record both guitar DI and processed signal at the same time.
@ 👍
@ Ok but let’s think this through a little. What quality of converters you think it has to run down the USB to the puter, you think it is better than a converter in UA Apollo? Might be better to go guitar input and stereo effects into 2 channels to the Apollo’s 1/4 inch
is it possible to capture a preset with doubler ?
Unfortunately it is not. The only effect pedals that are able to be captured are distortion/overdrive pedals.
what the tuning here? thank you
I believe this is in drop C. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for this info. I was wondering. I have a midi foot controller with an expression input. Do you know if i can connect the expression pedal to the controller and then assign it to level control?
Unfortunately, you currently have to make a decision on midi OR expression pedal control. So, this will more than likely not work.
@GaryWrightMusic figured as much. I did try the new mvave plus midi pedal with the midi host plug and was able to keep the expression and change patches with the mvave
Is there anyway I can access & download those user tones using a computer? Or is it only on the phone?
To be able to apply the captures, you will need to use your phone/iPad. You can browse them and favorite with the NeuralDSP cloud portal.
In my case it is not even updating it is stuck in 3.0.0 , trying to figure out with qc support but as of now nothing..
Oh no! That really sucks! What have you done to troubleshoot so far?
@@GaryWrightMusic i have contacted qc support and tried everything so far ! Using wifi , using mobile hot spot , they are checking if there is some other issue but i have to wait for now :(
Thank you ❤
You're welcome!
Really Appreciate the in depth tutorials on the subjects you're addressing. It's been very helpful and inspiring!
Thanks so much! Glad I could help!
I want this pedal any chance give away? Haha
😄not a chance
Can I plug my guitar into it and plug the nano into a footswitch to change the presets?
You can change presets via midi. So, if you have a trs midi controller you can, or send midi messages via USB.
@ Thank you!
excellent video, thank you. can you please do a video showing how to set up the "iRig stream pro" with the quad cortex please?
Thank you! I don't have one of these, but I can certainly help setup. Do you have specific questions, or would you prefer a general walkthrough?
After you captured the plug in, how can you add Delay, Reverb etc?
Once you have the neural capture loaded, you have access to the rest of the effects, including the built-in delays and reverbs.
@@GaryWrightMusic Thanks Gary, I just ordered one.
Hi Gary, I play metal, and I recently got a Nano Cortex. If I connect it directly to a PA, how can I make it sound good? Any tips on settings or configurations?
It does great with PAs with FRFR speakers. There really isn't anything special that needs to happen, short of eq-ing.
Great video! Can the expression pedal have an add-on assignment where heel down can trigger the tuner (while still also being volume post-amp/pre delay and reverb? Thanks!
Thank you! 🙏🏻 Unfortunately, you can't get that detailed with the heel and toe functions on the Nano Cortex. This possibly could be in a future update though. One workaround could be to intercept via USB midi with a DAW. This may get complicated though.
Will it capture a compressor all by itself?
Unfortunately, you can only capture overdrive pedals currently.
Good info but it could all be said in less than 5 minutes.
Thank you for your input. 🙏🏻
Great video! I'm considering the Nano Cortex but am I understanding correctly that it's not possible to use a midi footswitch and expression pedal simultaneously? I use a Behringer FCB1010 which has both PC switches as well as 2 expression pedals, but the NC seems to force you to choose one or the other?
Thank you! 🙏🏻 Unfortunately, that is indeed the case with the TRS jack. I am wondering in future updates if they will allow both via USB. That would at least give you the ability to expand, but not with the gear you mention. This was sort of a surprising feature miss, in my opinion.
@@GaryWrightMusic thanks for the reply! Yea that's pretty disappointing considering it can handle those tasks separately
could I in theory do this with my QC as the audio interface, and use the chain back out of the plugin into usb 5/6 etc, then use a blank preset on the QC that has in set to that 5/6 and outputting to the capture of Nano ?
In theory this _should_ work, albeit a bit complicated. :D
@ it’s my only audio interface :)
How would you connect a victory kraken v4 preamp and an h90 eventide? first goes the kraken towards the h90 or how would it connect, greetings, very good videos
Thank you for the kind words! This depends a bit on how you would like your signal chain to be routed. For the Kraken pre-amp, would you prefer it to behave as a pre-amp and physically use the pedal? If you do, I would consider running your guitar input to the kraken, then the output to the input of the QC. You could also consider capturing the kraken v4, and placing it at the beginning of the input chain on the grid. For the h90, I am going to assume you would like to use this after your amp block. If so, I would use one of the fx loops, and drop the fx loop block towards the end of your signal chain on the grid. Obviously, you are wanting to get creative and use the h90 before and/or after, since you have two simultaneous processors, you could consider utilizing both fx loops with the input/output on the pedal and place the fx loop blocks both before and after the amp/cab blocks. I hope this helps and let me know if this doesn't make sense.
@@GaryWrightMusic If I want to run the kraken as a preamp to modify it. I was complicated by the same fx loop that the kraken has Now I was looking at the h90 more for a multi of delays and ambient reverbs that's why I thought of running it after the amplifier block
Thank you very much for responding and I'm still watching your videos.

Thank you!🙏🏻
Hey Gary, love your content man! Anyways, I’m trying to capture my studio tone without an IR since I’ll be using actual cabs live. When I go to capture I can’t seem to get the full sound through the nano even with both gain and level knobs maxed out. Is there anyway to work around this?
Thank you! 🙏🏻 What is your signal chain when attempting the capture? Let's see where you are more than likely missing level.
Just guitar to input, capture out with trs cable into input of interface and trs cable to capture in into phones
Thank you Gary! this video was super helpful. I want that guitar so bad, and this is actually the first evertune how-to video I see.
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Magic 😅 Thank you! Very helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!🙏🏻
I have a question. Can you link an output to the volume wheel on the unit. On my Helix, I link the volume to my 1/4 out to my FRFR so when I need more guitar in my ear onstage, I don’t affect the FOH XLR outs?
You can assign the master volume knob to overall output across all outputs (unity at 100%), or assign it to any individual output, including headphones. It can't impact external outputs, but if your FRFR is connected to a specific QC output, then yes, your scenario should work just fine.
@ Thanks. I’m considering selling my Kemper Rack and Remote, and the Helix, to get the QC, with the Temple board, pedal, and power supply, with the custom end jacks.
Cool vídeo. I got this same guitar! I’m new to Evertune so I snapped a couple of 1st strings while tuning (they break quite easily). Really enjoying this guitar/Evertune so I bought a second Baritone. I keep this one on Ab Standard and the other one on 440.
If I want to use a crybaby pedal, I need to do this configuration? or plug the crybaby in the front an after plug the nano?
If you wish to use a physical wah pedal, you simply plug in line with the Nano Cortex input. You don't need to use the expression pedal port, as this is just a physical pedal that can control virtual pedals on the Nano Cortex itself.
@@GaryWrightMusic thank you Gary!
I noticed when you go up in pitch the tracking/latency shoots way up, feels like 50ms, makes it really difficult to play a solo with a band
Good callout. I don't believe in the room it felt like 50ms, but it certainly does have a slight delay that you can feel. I can say that after the 3.0.1 update, this behavior seems to have _mostly_ gone away.
Hi, friend! I'm Bonex, I'm writing to you from Buenos Aires Argentina. Thank you very much for your contribution, thanks to your video I managed to automate my MX5 HeadRush, I ask you, if I wanted to use this automation in a live show, I should do it from (Reaper) or I can render the MIDI track in some way and play it, for example with the player from windows? thank you very much again
Thank you very much for the kind words, and I'm glad the content helps! 🙏🏻 I would suggest using whatever method suits you the best. Especially, keeping things the easiest while onstage. In my opinion, reaper (or any DAW) would be the most straightforward. You have room then to use other backing / click tracks in sync as well.
Is it possible to record and output a processed mono signal? Or is it only stereo when recording anything but the DI?
Unfortunately, the only available signal is stereo. Depending on your configuration, it can still play mono. You could even hard pan left or right.
@GaryWrightMusic Ah, okay. Thank you!
Has anyone been able to issue PCs to a Nano Cortex from a Fractal VP4 and, if so, what cables did you use?
You definitely _should_ be able to. I am receiving my vp4 on Tuesday and can confirm for you. If you are looking for a straight cable to go from the NC to the VP4 , you will need something like this. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MBQtrEight--modbap-modular-audio-patch-cables-angled-3.5mm-ts-male-to-1-4-inch-ts-male-2-pack-5-foot-black?mrkgadid=&mrkgcl=28&mrkgen=&mrkgbflag=&mrkgcat=&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700080454169776&lid=92700080454169776&ds_s_kwgid=58700008743176691&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007215323&dsproductgroupid=2309494159094&product_id=MBQtrEight&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&device=m&network=g&matchtype=&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9010670&creative=705256640092&targetid=aud-297527862170:pla-2309494159094&campaignid=21453452330&awsearchcpc=1&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiArby5BhCDARIsAIJvjISODPXSLWTE82eBt393Isepc7jvevWXEmAQ0Be4G93GyRZczHZiRD4aAuSLEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I have confirmed this indeed works as advertised. I tested with the below cable sending from the VP4 to the NC.
Hi Gary, what's the name of the band in this video? They sound prettttty siiiick xD
Hate to say it, but I don't remember their name. Will have to take a better look at the LTL 24 lineup and check the timestamp. They sounded great, but I was just passing through on my way to another set.
@@GaryWrightMusic sure thing!
