I HAVE AN ALLOTMENT!

AUG 2024 Welcome to my allotment gardening channel. My name's Tom and these vlogs follow my allotment adventure. As of mid August 2024 I acquired a plot, my first one! I have no gardening knowledge so could do with all the help I can get! But I'm a glass half full kinda guy. So everything to gain and nothing to lose! (apart from a few lettuces to the slugs) In this first video I show the plot, ...
I do my potatoes in 30 Litre pots they come out fab I do winter ones and keep Them in the greenhouse so I get potatoes for christmas
Looking good
Been on my local allotment list for over a year and been told to expect to be on it for 5 more years 😔 ive even started looking at land for sale 😅 congrats on your new allotment adventure! Excited for you!!!
If you see fruit trees for sale or anything else, that is the time to plant them. When they are dormant. In pots on your allotment. Dwarf trees still give you a goid wee harvest. Its coming along well. Put sheep manure in a pile somewhere and the worms will come then you can out them all over the allotment.
congrats on the allotment and the new lifestyle ahead of you EXCITINGS!!!
I think you are brave to lay bare your inexperience. Starting a project like this is so hard. Wish you well.

ruined by the music
Just taken over small allotment! Watching your progress with interest! Will watch and learn!
I think that you may be too late for potatoes this year. I believe that you plant in the spring, just before your last frost. At this time of year you can’t get much out of a garden if you haven’t planted it months ago. All those potatoes in one plant pot won’t give you anything lad. You need to plant the potatoes a foot or two apart, early next year. Check out books or UA-cam videos - Charles Dowding videos. John Seymour, Elliot Coleman books. Lots of good things from both sides of the pond but you need to get your seasonal timing right. Good look and happy gardening 😊
Leaned the bike againstt a metal post, as the shed might not've been able to withstand the weight. lol.
Loving the videos. I'm doing a similar kind of thing if you want to follow along. I'll be watching for hints and tips 👍👍👍
Good job buddy if you can check out your green waste recycling centre they usually sell compost by the ton you will need a wheelbarrow and put on as much as you can afford if you have a ditch in your part when's it can suffer with flood in which is not a problem you just build up with compost I collect all my neighbours grass cuttings and cardboard recycling on recycling day to make lots of compass good luck
Making good progress, well done 😊 the garlic pieces are “cloves” and all the cloves together make a bulb. I have couch grass on my plot too, I think it’s definitely the lesser evil compared to bind weed.
More gentle relaxing music would be nice 😊😊
Please put some decent roofing felt on the shed . You have a great allotment plot I’m still waiting for the next step. Best of luck with your project and looking forward to seeing your progress 😊
Why don’t you hire a rotary tiller to till a larger area at once. Just a thought.
Those beds look like no dig beds already
Stop digging lad. Wasted energy
omg. There was no need to do all that sweating. Work smart not hard.
🤦♀️ I typed a bloody novel and it crashed. I was saying you know I only watch you for the kids right 😂😂😂. But all looking fab Elaine and you have some amazing harvests 👍. Have a superb week stay safe and warm ❤, Ali ☔️💨💨🇨🇦
Used stores are good for tools. Dont buy new. I like when you work and talk the best. Thanks
FYI Your camera on selfi mode is backwards. You can change your settings
With your small greenhouse (put the clear plastic cover on the top again), you can start plants inside all yearlong. Then, plant outside about 3-8 weeks after starting. There are still many vegetables that you can plant for an Autumn/Winter garden. Lot's of YT videos that cover these topics. Find your zone and you'll be ready to go. Have fun each year. Your plot is big enough for lots to grow. The way the black plastic was covering the grass, etc. is the way "no till gardening" is done. Watch some videos on that topic too. You don't have to remove all the vegetation to get started.
Loving the video. ❤
Really enjoying your experiences. I,m at the end of my gardening fun. Can,t bend and work the way I use to.
I don't understand.Everytime I watch a new allotment vlog the new tenant starts by saying,"At last, after waiting 2 years, I have finally taken over a plot". Then they pan over the plot and it is obvious that it has been untended for a long time. Waist high weeds and brush, trash all over, and sheds falling down.So why the long waits on the list? I know that weeds grow fast, but come on, Councils and Associations,do your job!
Consider a grelinette workstations on have soil end jou cut less roots so nut multiple plus your rug back gone a thank you😊
So healthy and tasty. I love how we can grow these all year-round. There are so many types out there, its fun to try them out. I'm all caught up on the videos now, had a great binge watch 😊 🇨🇦🇬🇧
Castle Hill Garden. Cliff. This man is brilliant Tom, it's who I watched at my beginning, and I still love watching him, gardening encyclopedia, and everyone's grandad 💙 Check him out if you have time. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
You're doing just fine. Sometimes, all you need to do is pull a few weeds, enjoying the downtime. You've done more in a very short period of time than some other allotment you tubers I'm following. Good going. I've planted the garlic ( oct 22 ) and green manure as to not leave my beds empty, then I'll dig them in next year for the nutritional value. I definitely favor my raised beds, hardly any weeds, smaller areas easier to keep up with, and because of the harsh climate and limited growing season, but I understand they're not for everyone. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
😊🇨🇦🇬🇧
Gradually, getting through your videos to catch up. Doing great. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
And so it starts 😂
Yeah! A newbie! You're doing great so far.. Congratulations, I subscribed and look forward to your adventures. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
Comfrey..
Alright,my new water boots look just like yours,...great price.
Oh lovely, just what you need ,a Tom cat that will spray in or around things in your lot. Kitty cats are cute, have two of my own,...but a male cat that is not neutered can become a problem .
Sorry but music choice is awful, less techno less in your face 🫣🤯 and horse manure is one of the best compost solutions which will help with your soil problems 👍🏽 Best of luck!
Not too late to put in some garlic. You might be able to put in some broad beans, too. The worst that can happen is the beans get winter killed and you can dig it in in the spring. But maybe you'll get broad beans.. Garlic goes in October or November where I live (Portland, OR USA, zone 8B)
Hi from France....bon courage! You have a big job with huge rewards ahead of you.....onwards & upwards 👊🏼
The potatoes were hit by frost.
Don’t let the neighbour spoil the experience by telling you what to do.
May I suggest that when you start a video you put the date or at least the month on screen, it helps when watching a few months out of sync. Cheers.
👍👍👍
Hi. Looks a great site. Where in the UK are you?
My biggest nemesis weed is creeping buttercup 🤬🤬. Finally got my garlic in yesterday 🧄. But now it’s absolutely pouring rain and will all weekend 😢. Great update 👍, Ali ☔️☔️☔️🇨🇦
Enjoying watching your journey from the beginning. Plant your garlic deeper though - twice the size of the bulb deep. Looking forward to seeing how you grow as a gardener, along with your new allotment 😊
i am getting my garlic in today. this will be my 3rd time planting garlic. I want to try and get bigger bulbs this year but i will have to wait and see if what i plan to do will work.
Might be wise to run what your planning to do a vlog before your about to do it Tom.Gardeners are happy to let you know how to do things 😊
