An Update On the 57' Chevy Belair 4 door. Work Progress on getting her running.
On this episode of fixin it with Matt Gray all day. I kind of talk about all I have done and I'm doing when working on the 57' Chevy Belair that has been about a 4-year project getting her running on her own power aka from the ignition switch than a push button from the starter to battery. While filming I didn't realize my phone lost much of the footage like changing the fuel sending unit and explaining much that was done even static timing as well. Fyi I wasn't trying to slam Autozone lol they just didn't realize what spark plug wires to sell me even when I tried to explain. Luckily the Good News is she is alive and her name is going to be Grace than Amy as she was parts car now a running car. Much more videos will be coming soon as I am pumped of doing more work like finishing the brake process, exhaust work, and a ton of body work as the passenger side was hit by a guardrail years ago and is going to need some weld patch work. I'm no mechanic but working on something you have never worked on besides watching videos and tons of research definitely helps you gain much knowledge. As always thank you for watching.

All I did was drained the fuel tank and cleaned the screen while I was doing that I used vinegar and baking soda to clean any residue left in the tank then washed it out and let it dry. Mostly just a walkthrough of what the 200 series John Deere's are even though they are small tractors they definitely got quite a bit of power. FYI She does have all her parts like the grille and ...

    I watched your video had a similar issue but I was burning up coils come to find out the coil needs an internal resistor, like yours on the outside said use an external resistor you might want to check into that

      I’ll have to check that out. I know on the new mowers, later models they went to the external resistors. I kind of followed to old way it was setup from the factory plus on the JD212 it was a complete mess when figuring out the wiring and electrical parts. I actually blew 2 internal resistors from Amazon which were cheaply made before deciding to go to my auto parts store for some parts. Plus I know sometimes the wiring can be an issue I’m running into that now with a 316k I’m trying to get to turn over. I’m glad you were able to get I figured it out. Were you able to get her running.

      @MattGray-2010 yes I was after I changed out the coil to one with the internal resistor I've not had a single issue so since then that's all I've used that was on a 214 I've put a 300 together 2 more 214s a 140 and now I'm doing up a 120 and no issues with the coils

    I got so mad at my LT166 one year, I ripped the hood right off and smashed it on the ground. Then I looked to see how much a new hood costed :(

    • @MattGray-2010
      @MattGray-2010 3 місяці тому

      I know, those hoods ain’t cheap unless from a lawnmower junkyard or just someone that has a parts mower. The one thing I definitely dislike about the hoods now of days is the hoods are thin plastic that break too easy. The hoods on the John Deere’s made around the early 90s and back in the day besides the stx series those were thin plastic they were made fiberglass, which they were definitely made right. I was able to buy a new hood from a guy that needed it gone. It actually makes the mower look a lot better as the John Deere lt150 hood on the mower falls off every time I try to mow with it lol.

      Now I gotta just take the time to check into this valve issue, I believe I have the identical issue on my murray lawn mower that's been converted to a snowblower machine. Smoking, popping intermittently, and I believe that the past owners weren't using non ethanol fuel.

    For the threaded rod that the nut goes on on the rear, the top of it is shaped to be able to put a wrench onto in order to keep the rod from spinning when loosening the nut.

    • @MattGray-2010
      @MattGray-2010 7 місяців тому

      You can do it that way as well but overtime they can be stubborn to get off. I tried using a wrench when working on removing the ones on the front shocks. They were a pain to get off and from being in a tight spot didn’t help as well from being on for many years.
