IN 2 STEEP w/ Alessandra Keller: defining success, mind over body and overcoming fears
Paris Olympian and current World Cup leader Alessandra is considered one of Switzerland's top mountain biking talents. Alessandra grew up in the Kanton of Nidwalden and loved all competitive sports from a young age. In her early teens she landed in the world of MTB and rose to success winning the under-19 and later the under-23 world championship titles.
In this episode we talk to Alessandra about her start in MTB and her motivation to share the sport with young people today with kids bike camps.
We also dive into the fact that Alessandra is taller than the average cyclists and discuss how she manages comparing herself and stays confident in her body image.
Later, Alessandra shares stories about how she deals with fear, self-confidence and gives us some insight into what success means to her and how she navigates sport and both a passion and a job.

Cycling pads, history and women specific solutions with Elastic Interface
Переглядів 548Місяць тому
I had the great pleasure of visiting the Elastic Interface headquarters to chat about the history of the cycling pad, where their company fits into the mix and what kind of women specific solutions they have developed and why. Head of marketing Irene sits down for an interview where I ask her all my burning questions like: what is the origin of the pad and why is it called a chammy/chamois/sham...
Things that made me laugh and cry going behind the scenes of pro cycling

Three times, I cried three times during four days of racing, that's a pretty good ratio if you ask me 😂. The nerves and adrenaline might have had something to do with it but I know that meeting Cecilie for sure did! I was shaking for most of the interview with her and then when it ended I felt a wave of emotion realizing how cool and down to earth these girls were in real life was oddly overwhe...

Matilda talks about how cycling has evolved, why women are able to ride faster than ever and also gives a shout out to Dr. Stacy Sims and advocates for healthy bodies across all sport types. Thank you so much Matilda for this well vers...

When I was behind the scenes at the 2024 Tour de Suisse Women's I saw a lot of the women warming up with ice socks on the hot days so I decided to find out what kind of tips we (recreational cyclists) could take from the pro cycling world. I asked Kristen Faulkner about how they discuss training with their menstrual cycles, how they manage riding in the heat and about the importance of proper f...

After a few days behind the scenes at the 2024 Tour de Suisse Women's, I was totally amazed at Demi. Not only because of her impressive speed on the bike but the way she carried herself throughout various scenarios during the tour. If you've ever been bonked/hangry before you know how hard it can be to answer questions or smile when you just want to lay down and cry but I watched as Demi got up...

More weight on the front means more grip on the front tyre, which is probably a good thing as the front wheel steers the bike.

My first shorts, purchased in 1985 or so had a real leather chamois. They were made in Italy by Sergal of Lycra and the chamois which was unpadded, and had no stretch. To clean them, you hand washed them with ordinary soap and put them out in the sun. They became a little tough after that, so you added a few drops of baby oil to soften it. The purpose of chamois was to reduce friction from the fore and aft and side to side movement. The padding was all in the saddle, but the first two or three rides of the season were always uncomfortable, because the skin had not yet toughened up. There was no such thing as women's saddles or women's bib shorts at the time.

Crazy, that an Italian with the Bot2 and a swiss company with React kinda builts once again on an old concept from 5 years ago from Uvex (variotronic/probably the tech for them existed way longer for welding helmets), which copied from 10 years ago from e-tint USA... Perhaps we are getting there because sadly the Bot2 and the React have their major downsides and still dont worrk properly e.g. for mtb. They should give it at least a slider or button to manually control it, as long as they dont have proper routines/behaviours programmed into them. :) Otherwise: I will be immediatly on board, when they build upon sensors, that actually track properly and change more subtle (yeah: Slower might be a key here..or proper software/ai).

I depends, bike in the forrest into the evening it might start to feel dark, especially this time of year as it gets darker earlier but during the daytime it's served me well! Especially going in and out of sunny patches in the trees and having that super quick adjustment is really nice.

If I eat in the morning before a long ride I’m useless. I have more energy in a fasted or semi-fasted state than anything else. My speed itself is drastically slower if I eat a normal breakfast. I typically only like to ride on a cup of coffee with some milk in it and a banana.

    • @gaj30

I don't know if I buy this. If you're riding, you're using energy. That energy has to come from somewhere. I don't know the biology of it, but I know a lack of carbs can't turn humans into perpetual motion machines.

Amusing story. After washing my MTB shorts with their removable padded liner, I mistakenly re-clipped the liner in back-to-front. Three miles before I was in trouble. My riding buddy is a girl. Once she’d stopped laughing at my quick rearranging of my shorts, behind a log pile, she explained that I’d just had an insight into how cycling shorts designed by men fitted the female form. Seriously, for years she has been modifying the pad in new shorts to improve the fit.

Ive never had a problem getting bibs off to #1 or #2… I unzip my Jersey and pull the bib straps down my arms. The Jersey just wraps itself into your bib straps as you pull them off your shoulders and it sits down behind your calves while you do your business.

This is brilliant. My wife has found the problem of not being able to ENJOY bib shorts. We have them with long warm legs for winter use. But in winter we are wearing many layers to keep warm. It is so hard for her to go to the toilet. It wouldn't be so bad for summer because there are no extra layers to worry about. But given that I can pull the FRONT down ( as a male) being able to pull the BACK down ( for a female) would give her the same benefits that I get. I hope that your idea catches on.

It's not too bad in the summer but also... once you have this version it's hard to wear any other kind of shorts. All my other ones are catching dust in the drawer because I'm so spoiled by the ease of everything. We are upgrading our winter version now too! All seasons peeeee fun! :D

Is this the manufacturers fault or what woman buy more. Have woman been conditioned by marketing. Like why are there pink hammers? Why is p9nk a woman's colour and blue a man's colour? It wasn't always this way. If the majority of woman had a choice will they by the fragrance over the non fragrance? Is there marketing proof or is the company stereotyping woman's choice? What came first, the marketing or the preference?

  • @drewcama2488

Bib shorts are the same problem for men when you need to go to the bathroom. Why don't you name the material you chose? Why don't you name the overpriced brand and material that wore out in two years? I like the idea of the thigh band. Thigh length is a problem for every one. Hope you go on to design better men's shorts next.

    • @riderawr
      @riderawr Місяць тому

I'm not sure naming the material would be of value if it doesn't resonate with people who don't know materials. Many of these materials are named after what they are or how they perform but after some kind of trademark so it wouldn't really be intuitive if that makes sense?

"Chamois", not "shammy"! Chamois are goat-antelope creatures which traditionally provided Chamois leather, made from their hide, which is very smooth and absorbent
