Nice tutorial, got a question...you would normally fix the miniature on first? Or do both separately and then fix the character?
Hi! Thank you for reaching out! You can do it both ways. You can glue your miniature and build a base around it, or you can do the base and then glue the miniature on top. Just use super glue and press it against the tufts, smashing them a bit. It will also look realistic as if the miniature is stepping on the grass.
@GamersGrass Thanks! I always used to do basing with the figure fixed, but I guess both methods have their pluses and minuses. For example, making some parts easier to paint, or being more aware of the overall composition.
What was added @1:02? Then glue was added onto correct?
Hello! Thanks for your comment! A moment we applied just some wall repair paste (putty) to add some irregular ground relief :)
Yes! Where we placed the paste, it was also the areas where we wanted the crackle to be, so when the paste was dry we applied a layer of PVA glue over it, so that later the crackle texture would work better.
Is it possible to get a list of paints used
Omg, the more bases I watch the less I know which base I want to do…
Those are absolutely beautiful!! Thank you so, SO much for this tutorial. I've got some Ancient Greek minis I've been meaning to base, and this will be incredibly helpful. Looks like I need to dust off my wet pallet again...
I thank the algorithm today. Bringing this master piece to my feed. Great video man
Love the water based reductive technique. Great idea. How would one get the STL for the painting handle you use to put each base on while painting it?
Why use martian earth crush, prime it, paint it with the lava color then painstakingly black-out the cracked earth rather than just use mordant earth directly over your lava colors and give it a bit of a drybrushed edge-highlight? Same effect in a fraction of the time.
Hello Rich! You could also do it that way of course! It can be more efficient :) Usually we prefer to first create the textures and then paint everything, in order to have more control over all the steps. For example in this case, if you would paint the lava before applying the crackle paint, then we couldn't unify the whole earth texture and crackle areas with the rock dusts and wood chips (later painted as coal), which need to be sealed and primed (it's easier to prime everything when something needs to be). Why the Martian Earth-Crust and not Mordant Earth? It was just what we had available since we were going to prime it and paint it anyway, we just wanted the crackle texture itself :) Thank you for commenting! Hope this helps!
Really good tutorial ! Thank you. Several colors, only two brushes, and kinda an easy way to do it ! 🎉🎉
Looks amazing, thanks for the tutorial!
Beautiful, respect for the person who designs your products
Perfect and complete guide to make a very important effect. Thanks a lot for the realization of the video and for the idea.
What Part # is the AMMO by MIG: Turned Earth Ground? I keep ordered the wrong one. Also is there something needed to make it Dry? I used the Mud version MIG 1702 and its been like 7 days and its still wet. Thanks!
Hello! Thank you for your comment! Perhaps you have used a different kind of product, that looks a bit more like a wet effect paint. For this theme we used a texture paste to add the ground earth detail and remove the base flatness, check it out at the minute 1:07 You don't need to use this exact texture paste though, any other similar ground texture product can also work fine :)
Very clever and done with great talent. Thanks 👍
Wow, thankyou subbed
Great video, i will definitely be giving your store a look!
Amazing thank you
its very nice, but hard to assemble the minis on the bases afterwards?
Hi! Thanks for your comment! These were actually built around the miniatures that appear in the end, so it is not hard :)
Great effect! Also, your accent is kinda cute.
Never seen rocks like those before. Where do you get them
Hi! They are tiny bits of sandstone, it has the little rugged texture. Always good to look to the floor :)
@@GamersGrass thank you !
wow ty that was really well done, new sub
Finally a guide for marble that doesn't require an airbrush and actually looks good! Thanks!
Seconded. I own an airbrush but frequently like to use my hand brushes to keep in practice, and I'd never seen a marble technique as simple as this.
Wow, I've never seen that 2 brush technique before. Looks fantastic.
Love the video but it would be great if the voice was as loud as the music. Can hardly hear talking and if i turn up the video then the music is blaring.
Great effect, look forward to more.
Tactical rocks to end all tactical rocks. Love your stuff

Simple et très réussi
Great tutorial, which green pigment did you use for this?
These are beautiful and give such a good effect!
Wonderful
Wow. This is amazing!
Big up. Nice brand, Nice products.
Hi, how do you glue your minis on the base after the paint is applied ? Does plastic glue still work ?
Hello! Thanks for reaching out! If you glue the miniatures to the bases with them already painted use super glue! Plastic glue would work if you have two plastic surfaces. For example if you glue the minis to the blank bases first, and create the bases with the miniature already there - it's also an option :)
@@GamersGrass Thank you !
By far the best looking lava bases I have seen! I’m planning on going with Salamanders for my first ever 40k army and this base design would be perfect
Fantastic work
What is the wash that you used ?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out! We used a wash similar to "Agrax Earthshade" from Citadel, or "Strong Tone" from Army Painter. You can thin down a bit the wash for these bases. Hope this helps :)
Wonderful tutorial and the soothing synthwave reminded me of tron was very nice keep it up!
Hey whats the exact name of the pigments youve used ... its says raw sienna but there isnt a product that has this exact name that i can find online... are you sure this is the correct one youve listed for us ? :)
Hi! Thanks for your comment! The dry pigment exact name is indeed Raw Sienna from the brand "Sennelier" :)
These are so cool. They'd fit perfectly with my chaos warriors :)
I just watched the full version of this video. Absolutely outstanding work but I'm having a nightmare sourcing your products in the UK Especially the resin rocks.
Hi! Thank you so much for your comment :) Also, you can check this link to see which stores you have in the UK and if they have the Basing Bits available (gamersgrass.com/stores/). Hope this helps!
Going to yank this for my salamders. It is a perfect cooled off volcanic look. Using the white for an ashy look made it very cool.
How do you make sure you can still put your models on?
Hi! Thank you for your comment! Normally we do the bases and then glue our miniatures with cyanoacrylate (super glue) on top of the vegetation, smashing the tufts. It also mimics real life, like they are stepping on the grass :)
Two things, where did you get the rocks at the start and what music did you use? Thanks for the amazing tutorial, I think I’ll switch the lava for a green glow and the base my Skaven.
Hi! Thank you for reaching out! The rocks we use are our Basing Bits (gamersgrass.com/product/basing-bits-rocks/). The songs are on the caption, you can check it out :)
a savanna would be nice as well
really need this with the magnet in the bottom
That music give me a Halo vibe 😁❤.. love your work 💕🤩😊
Perfect salamanders base
You're a magician! Those bases look amazing 😊
What primer did you use? Army painter desert or something?
Hi! For this we used Fosco Dunkelgeb first and then a bit of Fosco Desert just from one side :)
