Aquasana Under-Sink Water Filter Replacement: Easy Step-by-Step Guide
You are tenacious! Best trial and error demo to success video I've seen in a while!
Haha, thank you! ☺I’m glad I was able to get rid of the odor and buildup - just knowing how the drain initially looked drove me crazy!
Feit Electric is a good brand, but I prefer fixtures with replaceable bulbs. The original light fixtures were pretty nice for me, though. Also, I would sell those fluorescent fixtures to make money if I wanted to upgrade my lighting.
Thank you so much! Perfect - I’m a pro now
You're so welcome! YAY🎉 I'm glad to hear this ☺
Can I have the old fluorescent shop light?
Thank you so much! I’ve been dealing with this for years. I thought it was coming from my water heater and every time I’d treated it with bleach the odor went away for a while, but I think that was because I was rinsing the bleach out through my shower and that was temporarily reducing the odor. What a goof! I’m going to HD this afternoon to get some stuff to fix this once and for all.
You're so welcome ☺ Odor sources can be tough to pinpoint. It took me a while to figure out the source of the one in our bathroom too. Best of luck!
my ladder didn't come with a cat, is that ok
Good question. I think this should be okay. Actually, efficiency may even improve by 10+% 😉
I would have taken the fluorescent tubes as I’m not a big fan of these LEDs.
Just under 3 hrs? This is why guys get paid more. 30 minutes tops! Wtf are you doing for 3 hours?
FLORUSCENT LIGHT BESTT. LED LIGHT 🤮🤮🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢😌🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢
Thank you! I found this to be the most practical and informative video for compression valve toilet supply line replacement. My only comment is that I prefer the 1/4-Turn valves. They seem to be more reliable.
Thank you for your kind words! Your message brightened my day ☺ It seems many prefer the 1/4-turn valves. That's what I plan to use next time I need to replace a compression valve.
i never actually thought about that when I had do that with our Jeep. The RFID makes perfect sense. very cool, thanks!
Thank you ☺

Great review‼️
Thank you ☺
Thank you ma'am!!
You're most welcome ☺
I had one that stopped getting water through. I bought a new one , it is now doing that again. These are expensive and you should not have to modify it for it to work!!
I agree. Where did you buy the filter? After reaching out to Aquasana customer support, I was informed that this issue with the pre-filter being too short was resolved over a year ago. They also recommended purchasing replacement water filters directly from Aquasana rather than through Amazon, as there may be a risk of receiving backstock. Personally, I’ve always purchased my replacement filters from Aquasana and have not encountered a short filter. I hope this information helps!
@wildcat-diy the first failed one came from aquasana. The second failed one was through walmart. The first could have been older because I wait 8 months or more to replace filters. Too expensive to change every 6 months.
You’re a lifesaver!
great video! only thing i can add is have a backup voltage tester… i once had a defective unit giving me obviously erroneous info so i researched it online & the unit was under a recall!
Thank you and thanks for the suggestion ☺ I'm glad it was clear something was wrong with the tester. That's scary!
I dont get a beep when inserting a battery, i tried several of them. Not working, guess ill have to call aquasana
I hope Aquasana is able to help you out, especially if it's a newer unit. Good luck!
Your video included everything I needed to know. Great job. Very detailed, entertaining and to the point. Thank you.
I'm so happy to hear this ☺ Thank you for leaving me a comment!
Thank you!
I want to use it for the wood furniture on my Mossberg 590 Retrograde 12 gauge pump-action shotgun. The original factory stain is too basic for my taste. I like the natural look of your mirror. My shotgun has walnut wood so i think a natural looking clear topcoat would look beautiful. Thanks!
I agree, I think this will turn out beautifully!! Thank you for sharing ☺
@@wildcat-diy you're welcome! And thanks again!
A good drain auger will definitely clear the mineral deposits as seen on drainage channels. Bicarb and vinegar cancel each other out.
Yes, they do! Thanks for pointing that out. I've seen videos where augers with a drain chain knocker attachment are used and they do a great job cleaning pipe walls!
That "yard"stick will only make it down about A FOOT before hitting the trap/bend in the pipe...THEN WHAT? STUPID VIDEO!
The calcium buildup in this pipe was about 18" down and before the p-trap, so I didn't need to go beyond that point. If I did, a flexible brush would be more useful. I'd be curious to try a long bendable microfiber brush to hold vinegar for longer and a long flexible drain brush for scrubbing. Also, I corrected the subtitles to clarify that I'm using a meter stick. Thanks!
@@wildcat-diy - how do you know the blockage was only 18" deep?
@@22Purplemist Good question. I was able to rest a meter stick on top of the buildup to measure how far down it was. After clearing most of it, the shower drains well and water no longer pools in the shower pan.
Pro-Tip: If your shirt gets stuck, you can use another one, and another one. Use as many shirts as possible, because the negative pressure will push them back out.
Don't use the gizmo that attaches to a garden hose. It will blast your pipes apart.
Are you referring to a drain cleaning bladder?
@@wildcat-diy Does it attach to a garden hose and reduce its diameter so a strong stream of water shoots out?
@@updownstate Yes! I haven't used one before, so thanks for the heads up!
@@wildcat-diy :) Happy to help.
Right when I was about to call a plumber for a barely use third shower
Is there a bad sewage smell in the barely used shower? If so, it could be a dry p-trap from infrequent use. There should be water in the p-trap to prevent sewer gases from entering the home.
@@wildcat-diy thanks that may be it, will try.
Just don't push the shirt so far in that you can't pull it back out.
That’s an easy solution when your drain goes straight down vertically. My drain elbows into a horizontal two inches from the tub.
I came here to say the same thing 😮
Same
True, working with a vertical pipe is easier. For pipes with a nearby elbow, a flexible brush would be more useful. I'd be curious to try a long bendable microfiber brush to hold vinegar longer and a long flexible drain brush for scrubbing.
I don't recommend small mesh strainers like the one shown in this video for shower drains. They catch not only hair, but soap scum as well, clogging quickly and needing cleaning after two or three showers. I'm currently testing another strainer that seems to be a much better option!
Vomit fuel
Human beings are so gross!!!
I’m impressed with the job the auger did, but a shop vac is all most drains need.
Using a shop vac is a great idea!
I think you will be cleaning that strainer almost daily or at least a few times a weekly.
I agree, it will likely need frequent cleaning. I'm looking for one with a deeper basket and will share if I find a better option 🤞
Nice video, keep it up, side note, it's a common myth about using bicarb and vinegar at the same time. if you use them both together you immediately get a violent reaction and then end up with an inert liquid that won't clean anything
Thank you for mentioning the baking soda and vinegar myth ☺ These two are more effective cleaners when used separately.
use too many things just use drain anti clogger
In hindsight, vinegar alone might have addressed the clog by removing the mineral buildup and dislodging the hair. Which drain cleaners have you found effective?
Just use hot water and caustic soda. No tools. Works like magic.
eats the metal, if any
Thank you for the suggestion. It seems effective, but can apparently harden in pipes and worsen clogs. I'm also cautious about using chemicals like this due to the risk of burns and harmful fumes.
@@markae0 Drains are made of plastic, not metal.
@@wildcat-diy Caustic soda only hardens if you use too much. Flush the drain with hot water first, add the soda, then add more hot water to dissolve the soda
@@BritishBeachcomber Thanks for sharing your experience with it! ☺
Thanks. Where is the link to the voltage tester?
Here's a link to the Milwaukee voltage tester on Amazon: amzn.to/3oQRB7F
@@wildcat-diy Again, thanks so much for the video and thanks for the link.
@@DJVijilante No problem ☺ I'm happy to help!
@@wildcat-diy Thanks! The ground wires go on the same screw and it’s okay if they touch. If I have two black wires from the existing fixture, and one from the new fixture, just connect all three together, and do the same with the white wires? If I cannot get it installed, just cap the wires with the wires nuts and I should be able to turn the breaker back on until I can get it properly installed?
@@DJVijilante *I'd verify the below with your local codes or with an electrician familiar with your local codes, but generally in the US, black wires are hot and there is no need to modify the wiring logic (all same colored wires can be connected together) when replacing light fixtures. Yes, you can cap the black, white and ground/copper wires coming from the light box separately until you're ready to install the new fixture. Electrical tape can be used for extra precaution. I like to have each wire nut spaced apart so there's distance between them. When wiring the fixture: Connect the fixture’s black wire(s) to the black wire(s) from the light box. Connect the fixture’s white wire(s) to the white wire(s) from the light box. Connect the fixture’s copper wire to the ground screw on the mounting plate. For a plastic light box, the ground wire from the light box can be wrapped around the ground screw on the bracket as well but this isn't always possible to do or necessary. Since it's sometimes difficult to connect more than one wire to the screw on the mounting bracket, the fixture's copper wire, the light box's copper wire, and a short piece of the same gauge copper wire can be connected together with a wire nut. Then, the tail end of the short wire can be connected to the mounting bracket ground screw. If the light box is metal, the ground wire from the light box should be wrapped around the metal box's ground screw. Depending on local codes, ground wire ends may not need to be capped together. However, some prefer capping copper wires regardless to prevent contact with other wires inside the light box. Electrical tape can be used to help ensure wire nuts remain in place.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks for your professional advice & “to the point” video!!
Where exactly is the ground screw?
The green ground screw on our old fluorescent fixture was near the center of the fixture's metal housing. On the new light fixtures, the ground screw is on the mounting plate or mounting bracket.
❤
Great DYI video. You keep it clear and concise. Video is great too. Thanks for sharing your experience. And the cats are so fun.
I'm so glad ☺ Thank you!
Replaced the battery but didn’t beep. 😢😢😢
I've experienced this too. I assume the battery is bad when there's no beep but wait to change it along with the filters from our subscription. Do you have a way to test the battery?
@@wildcat-diy no I don’t. Sorry. I will wait for the next set to arrive.
That explains why I'm looking at this video. Started using bleach tablets a year ago and now there's steady drops of water going into the bowl. I confirmed this by adding some food coloring to the tank. The color going into the bowl meant I should replace the flapper.
Thanks for sharing this! The food coloring test is a great way to check if the flapper is faulty. Another method is to mark the water level inside the tank with a pencil, turn off the water supply to the tank, and check the level again after 30 minutes. If the water level has dropped below the pencil mark, it's likely that water is leaking past the flapper and into the bowl. I like the visual aspect of the food coloring though ☺ Have you seen Fluidmaster's Flush 'n Sparkle product? I noticed it on their website. It allows for bleach use, without it being in the tank water, by passing bleach water through a tube, down the overflow pipe, and into the bowl.
thank you!❤
You're most welcome!
At first, I wondered why you did a loop with the supply line instead of just getting the correct size. I just replaced my shut off valve and the existing supply line no longer fit, nor did a a new 9-inch braided line bend correctly to align between the tank and the valve. Lucky for me, I remembered your loop maneuver and bought a 20-inch line, looped it, and everything fit like a champ! You saved me a lot of stress on solving this issue. Thank you!
That's awesome ☺I'm so glad this trick was helpful and made the install process easier! Thank you for sharing your project experience ❤
This is exactly what I need to do. Thank you for clear instructions!
I'm so glad! Thank you for your comment ☺
I wish all videos were this clear!!!
Thank you for your kind words ☺
I like this video very much. I learned how to replace my leaking shut off valve. Thanks. 👍
That's awesome! I'm so glad this video was helpful to you ☺
Why would anybody fit a crappy multi turn valve? Those are the valves that stop working just when you need them, and which people are ripping out and replacing with reliable quarter turn valves.
Quarter-turn valves seem to be well liked and reliable. That will be what I use for a future shut-off valve replacement project ☺
